Do you have one minute to help the frogs?

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

blond. Gosh... he/she is just adorable!!! I love him. Do you have ID?

San Antonio, TX

They're all so cute - I love frogs, but that little fat frog Blond just posted is ADORABLE - what a precious picture.

I have a small pond (very small) with 6 little goldfish doing very well, a few plants and NO frogs. I even saw a dragonfly hovering yesterday. What am I doing wrong? I see little bitty frogs under or between pots that are no where near my little corner pond and if I try to transfer him or her to the edge of the pond - I never see them again - the ones I have seem to prefer dry to wet conditions.
Please tell me how to attract frogs - I'm so disappointed I don't have any. Thanks

hey tx
you want some frogs i will send them to you lol, i have a ton millions of babies that just started their lives as frogs. they are so cute i have to tip toe thru the garden not to step on them.
i was like you when i got my pond i wanted frogs, well i sent my son on a mission on a rainy night we got in the truck and grabbed a bucket, went down the road and grabbed frogs they tend to be in the road at night in the rain now i have billions dont know what to do with them all lol
dont worry the frogs will be there, i even hooked up a small light over my pond to attract the bugs to attract the frogs.
it is funny what we do for those cute little guys.

Thanks Blond,
I wish you could send me some, I'd take 'em. Putting a light over the pond to attract bugs is a good idea, I'll try it. What time of year did you go "frog hunting"? Now I did attract a (relatively) small garter snake that likes to swim (eek) and I was worried that he would eat my goldfish but they're all there every time I check.
Anyone else have some thoughts?

Hello TxDoodle,

Water sources, hiding spots, leafy things to hang out in and around.

At our home, we owe the biggest part of our amphibian population to NOT
using chemicals. Imagine if you will, being subject to the smells of a nail salon.
Not a place you would want to hang out. ;-)

After that, just have water sources. Some frogs prefer shallow, boggy areas,
some like a good swim in deeper pools, it varies.

Hoppy Father's Day!

Hi Wuvie,

I have all of the above, still no frogs. I have a small triangular pond about 150 gal. (figured out yesterday), tons of leafy plants all around - never use chemicals (except mosquito repellant on me and even that I don't use unless I'll be out all day - hate the oily feel). Maybe I'm just impatient. I do hear frogs in the trees behind my courtyard wall, which is a natural walking trail with huge trees. I just don't get it - almost forgot - I even have a 'toad abode' I bought that I placed nearby. Maybe if I put up a little sign........vacant, free rent, free food, waterview......

google how to attract frogs there is alot of helpful hints, like the toad abode, is it in the shade, put some spagnum moss inside and keep it moist.

Hey Wuvie... frogs arent disappearing all over the world, they've simply moved to my neighborhood! recent buckets of rain have brought with ti loads of toads. yesterday at the gas station, it was apparent that we were being invaded by tree frogs. Hundreds if not thousands of tiny tree frogs were everywhere. covering gas pumps, cars, bushes. Hoping all over the parking lot, jumping on people, covered the glass to the storefront. Honestly, it looked like some creepy scene from a Hitchcock film.

needless to say, a dozen or so hitched a ride home with me. They seem to have settled in quite nicely at their new residence. I feel like Im living in a fishbowl, constantly being stared at and watched by my new living window clings!

And forget about when it rains, the back patio plays shelter to the little invaders. The cat just looooves sitting at the sliding glass door, oogling them all. ROTFL!

Hey Wuvie, that's a great link- I work with emotionally disabled students, and will make saving native frogs one of our topics this year. Thanks for posting this. I'm also looking for funding to start a pond at our school for science and helping students to connect with the natural world.

Wow, Allgr8, that is wonderful that you have chosen
frogs for your students. They will surely love it!

Please get in touch with Kerry Kriger, he will
be more than happy to help you get this going, with
ideas, pamphlets, posters and more.

This will give you plenty of time to prepare for SAVE THE FROGS
DAY, which is April 10. What fun the kids will have preparing for that!

There is a link just for educators:
http://www.savethefrogs.com/teachers/index.html

Be sure to look over the page, and don't forget to mention that
you are a teacher.

This is great, thank you!
