I watche the video about burrowing frogs and toads.. we don't have many in our part of the world but they are here.

Saint Cloud, FL(Zone 9b)

Totally awesome. I watched a documentary the other day that said the same thing: frogs are in danger!

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

Wuvie. That is a fantastic web site. There are so many beautiful species of frogs . I loved the picture of the yellow & blacked stripped one. I have bookmarked this site. It is wonderful!

My little pal will keep an "eye" on this site too!

When you visit http://www.savethefrogs.com you will hear
a sound track in the background. Though this is a recording
of Kerry Kriger's, it sounds exactly like our back yard every
single night.

Hubby's room is right outside a particular pond that
is the loudest, I don't know how he sleeps at night. LOL.

Thank you all for visiting the site. We're up to 98,917.
Whoo hoo, just a tad over one thousand needed. We
can do it!

I'm not sure if it is just my screen, but for some reason, this post
shows up with a mile of blank at the end, even though I've made
certain to eliminate all of the space. Odd. I'll try to fix it again.

Happy to help - thanks

Wish more frogs would jump into my pond and croak the night away! Oh yes, consume thousands of mosquitoes while they are visiting! I'm going to look at the video right now Wuvie. Sounds intersting!

It made it!

Fort Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10b)

I've emailed your frog site to my friends! Wuvie. Super video and very interesting facts.

Thanks for the frog info. I am a big fan of my backyard frogs who have been singing loudly since March.

Here's a photo from Saturday. A garter snake was in the pond looking for a snack, so this little guy climbed up on the reeds to escape certain death. Fortunately, the snake settled on a goldfish and left him alone.

Glad he was ok. His little legs look pretty skinny. More bugs!

Fort Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10b)

Smart little frog galega!

Frogs sing in my pond, but they only visit at night. Wish I could find a way to keep them in the pond by day as well! I've not found where they hide during the day! I could do with a nice Big Momma Frog BeaHive!
The 'mini' frogs hide in my empty black flower pot liners by day. They dont croak but make 'tinkling' noises at night, rather like glass wind chimes. Very gentle, soothing sounds.

Here is Big Mama yesterday. She has not missed a meal!

Here is one of my babies, look at the gold color, Next picture same one from top side.

Here is the same frog from the top side. They're a lot here at my pond and sometimes get on my deck in my plants.

Those are great frog photos! Totally unlike the ones we have here. I remember toads in the garden when I was a kid, but I haven't seen any at all since moving here - only frogs.

We have a singing chorus outside at the ponds every night. Quite lovely.

West Chester, PA(Zone 6b)

Web site is soooo cool! I love the frogs in our pond! In fact we watch them probably more than the fish now. Last year we had 3 large ones and 2 tiny ones. I have no idea what kind they are, but they are amazing to watch. We have not seen them this year yet, I don,t think it has been warm enough yet.
We did have a toad in my secret garden last year, we would see him all the time. I guess he liked it there. Lots of places for him to hide and all.
We had started getting a whole frog theme going on with the pond.....Here is the photo of the fairy riding the frog king and one of his subjects.........

Here is another photo of one of the frogs hanging out with the two metal frogs in my pond. He would do this all the time. Silly.......

One month later, here's one doing it again.....Notice it is not the same frog......

Here is the baby, or at least that is what we called him.....

Whoops......wrong picture......That is Ms. Kitty 'Kastrol Susan' getting her morning drink at the pond. She was our old, old kitty. Extra toes on each foot, blind in one eye. We lost her late last summer 'God rest her Soul', we loved her so......

Talk about great pictures.....I feel like I could reach out and touch that guy! Or is that big Mama?
Big Mama kinda looks like she has leopardy spots. I had one like that. Do you know what kind of frog that is?

I just have to share this one, my heart just twinkled when I found him:

kastrol. The frogs in your pictures appear to be bull frogs . Mine are all bullfrogs on this page.

here is a great website to ID frogs in your state.

Fort Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10b)

My Goodness Kastrol! I thought those 3 were garden statues!
BeaHive, the little one sitting on the lime green leaves belongs in a calendar as does the Momma Frog with the wide smile!

I'm in the process of enlarging my pond; this time edging it in an informal way as you have all done (as above). Mine is toooo rigid (not formal, just too tidy) and too small. Did you leave a shallow area on the side for the frogs to access the water? Or how do they get in and out easily? I've piled soil up to use as a fountain/cascade but never having done this before, I'm still feeling my way along. The area narrows so I have to be 'creative'! Hope I get it right! How do you feed the water into your ponds? Via waterfall? Water top-ups with a hose? Did you add drains? I think I should post these questions in a new thread! Too many questions from an amateur...

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

I have a boggy area on one area of the pond that goes from abot 1" to 1'ft of water. The rest of the pond is between 3-4FT deep.
I had waterlines installed and if you can I recommend it. I have an auto fill and an overflow drain for use during the rain. I do not have a bottom drain and at times I wish I did to remove some of the gunk. But I vaccum when it gets horrible.
Hers is a link to a picture of a set up that is like my set up. I have a ecosystem which requires very little maintenece and only a weekly clarifier once it gets balance. I never test my water, never change the water exepct for yearly cleanout and I never pour unnecessary chemicals. I think the closer you get to nature the happier the creatures will be. I keep the water running 24/7 and use a deicer when the pond starts to freeze up. Not often here, but I keep it on hand for those rare icy days.

BeaHive, I'm going to put a thread on the Water Gardens as I dont want to encroach on Wuvie's excellent one.

Bedouin, please don't ever feel the need to go elsewhere, love your posts as well!

No apologies or leaving necessary.

Thanks Wuvie.
BeaHive was kind enough to give a very detailed description of her construcion: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/994982/

I've had the pond plants in a large plastic basin while I've been ...making a huge effort to make sure all the sides of the pond are level...hard work as I'm using USB concrete blocks. Too many land crabs burrowing through the soil, demolishing what was a super firm soil wall around the last pond. The visiting pest (little grey heron...long, long neck when fishing, so not so little) is incessantly scooping up my poor goldfish, cheeky enough to even land on the side of the basin while I'm working 5 feet away! Since I only have 6 little goldfish left out of 4 dozen (rabid appetite..) I flapped my arms and went to see what he was eyeing! Lo!!! Umpteen little tadpoles! May they all thrive and live to eat all the mosquitos!

Save the fishies and the Frogs!

Fort Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10b)

Your Heron is a beauty BeaHive! Herons are plentiful in our area of So Fl but Ive never had a large one visit though I have had a hawk. Not quite the same in elegance, I know, but majestic, powerful and beautiful in their own way!
