You know what would be neat?!

I'm finally back to gardening after taking a few years off for bad behavior (LOL j/k)

So I'm really using a lot of the tools available on DG - and LOVIN IT!!! (thank you!!)

What I'd love to be able to do is move records from one list to another. For example:

I have something on my want list (trade list), and I get it. So I'd like to be able to then move it to my Journal under Current Plantings.

Let's say I grow it a year or so and now I have it available for trades. I'd like to be able to copy or move it to my have list (trade list).

Follow? Is there any way at all we can do that?

Also, I notice when I have something in my Journal, I can't click on the Plant Files link for info on growing. I have to have another browser window open to see if it needs to be moved to another bed.

Thanks so much for making Dave's such a GREAT gardener's tool!!!!

You used to be able to move things from the journal to your tradelist, but Dave redid the tradelists a couple years ago and that feature doesn't seem to work anymore (although the link to do it is still in journal entries). I don't know how hard it would be to fix that back up again.

On the links to Plant Files...I'm not quite sure I understand the problem you're having. If you want a link to Plant Files in your journal entry, you have to add the plant to your journal from Plant Files...is that the way you have been doing it? If you're manually adding plants then I don't think you'll get the automatic link. But if you're going to PF and using the link there to add things to your journal, your plants should have a link that you can click on that'll take you to the PF entry. The one exception is that there's a bug (unless it's been fixed recently) that with plants that don't have a species name as part of the PF entry the link doesn't get made correctly. But if there is a species name, then the link will get made. So as an example, with Salvia gauranitica 'Black and Blue', the link would get made, but with Salvia 'Indigo Spires' it wouldn't since there's no species name.

ecrane, thanks for your response.

Ok I'm hoping you can see my Journal entry here:
http://davesgarden.com/tools/journal/viewbycat.php?cat=75607

I've created my journal with categories which I've named each garden bed or planting location (i.e. entry left, entry right, arbor north, arbor south, etc.) This way I'm able to move plants from one bed to another and move the entry from category to category.

See if you can see my journal entries and see if you can click on the PF. I'm adding 99% of my plants using PF using the 'add to journal' link.

I understand what you're saying, but still not sure why mine don't link back to PF the way my entries on my trade lists do.

Unfortunately when people other than you look at the journal, they can't see all the same things that you do so I can't tell if the link is there or not. There are a couple possibilities why you're not seeing the link. One is what I mentioned above about plants that don't have species names not getting the link. Second possibility is if you're going into your journal from your member page (a link that says "view cajun2's journal" or something along those lines), that takes you into the journal the way other people would view it. In order to be able to see the PF links, you have to go into the journal through the link on the "my tools" tab (this is where you go to edit things in the journal, etc). Third possibility is you're not looking far enough into your entry. When you go into a particular category, you'll see the table that lists the names of your plants along with the location, etc. In order to get to the PF link, you need to click "view" next to a particular entry to go to the individual entry page for that plant. From there, if you scroll down to the bottom, you will see "this plant is in Plant Files" and a link you can click on to go to the PF entry.

Duh... got it! That's it... you know how the picture on your trade list contains the link to PF? That's kinda what I was hoping for in the Journal. But I do find a link after I click view on my Journal entry.

Thanks, ecrane!!

(still would be handier from the main journal page )

Still waiting for that fix, still waiting for that link that you can click on that takes you to the PF entry for those that don't have the species name.
