New Garden Projects This Year #3

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Victor,
I think they stopped the gardens of the world tour- or more correctly, they only have it during the annual flower show.
So I guess they are now one and the same.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That's too bad, in that case. I took the Gardens of the World tour long ago and it was excellent. This was the mid-90's.

South Hamilton, MA

columbine which have seeded themselves in the gravel driveway are showing color. I wish that they were not so enthusiastic.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I love them and have no problem with them reseeding. Easy enough to remove.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I wish they would re-seed here

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Those blues and yellows will look great together, Jen.

I did not know Koi were so bad and so hard to take care of. No wonder I never see plants in Koi ponds.

I wish more would reseed here. I love columbines.

I have been working on a rock walkway in one of my beds. Here is a pic of it in progress. Shouldn't take too long to finish.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

nice karen - are you just setting these in the ground or are you putting in some crushed stone and sand?

Nice, Jo Ann and thanks! The agastache may not do well there. They really like a well drained soil. The others I would think would be fine.

Thanks, Bill. I'm just putting the rocks in the ground. I plan to put in a creeping, very low ground cover in between the stones, like possibly elfin thyme or something like that.

NUTS Karen That explains a lot. I'll see how things work out and replace with something else later. The whole thing might end up Monarda and daylilies.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

some of mine are already taking over in the second year will have to split them in the fall monarda spreads very quickly wow amazing and its is part shade I can just imagine it in full sun

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Wow, I love this thread! I'm too busy getting ready for Holly's swap to work on any of my projects. An unwanted project is expanding my tree line bed back to that white fence my neighbor put up last month. It's 250' long by 6' tall. All my plants between the trees are low growing and white blooming. That area is very shaded for a large part of the day. Now I've got 3' to fill with taller colorful plants.

This is what I've potted up for the swap so far.

Columbines have long roots which they don't wish to have removed. Nice white one in driveway last yr, which refused to budge. So far they are blue. Lot of work with those plants, Stormla.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

Sciccarella, I've never seen a bed of Columbine before. That should be amazing!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Luvly new walk Cousin Nut. ge1836 you've been busy! DH has one more piece of the lower deck to rip out and then I'll post a pic. It looks like a HUGE new space to work so I'm very excited. The columbines self sow here willynilly. I just luv them.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks, Cousin Nut!

Stormyla, I don't remember which thread it was where we were talking about Petasites, but remember I mentioned a house where they had a ton of it growing on a slope? I took a picture of it last week. Here it is.

In that first pic they have the plain green Petasites in front, followed by the variegated one. A common name for that plant is Fuki. Here is a closer shot.

It sure is! I really like it, actually, and I decided to pick up a variegated one at a plant sale on Saturday. I planted it in my wet area by the garden shed in back. I think it will look great there.

Karen

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

how fast does it spread?

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Here is another shot of my walkway the day after I put it in last Wednesday. We had gotten a good amount of rain, so it settled the stones in nicely. I will get more work done on it this weekend.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I don't know. I'm hoping it will fill in quickly.

Here is one more shot of the walkway.

cool look at that one

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

You wouldn't want to eat too much of it, as it contains a chemical that's been associated with cumulative damage to the liver.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

no ratings on this variegated one

Doesn't spread that fast unless in a wet area.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

oh I see Victor has it... what a shock

:)

HE HAS EVERYTHING

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I swear every time I look in the plant files... there you are Victor!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Wow! I gotta get me some of that Gigantea one. I have plenty of boggy spots in shade that I could use them to fill in with, and what a statement those make!

I see Victor has some of the variegated form, as his pic is in the plant files.

Karen

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

ok forget the plant files.... we need a Victor files

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

LOL! I cross-posted with you guys!

Victor, I do have it in a wet area. Good, I want it to spread fast, as there is not much else there.

Karen

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm over 900 pics now, though that does not even come close to some.
