Candyce, I have to do a drive by next week when I am up in Vt. Love that old gazebo, but no doubt dangerous and not usable as it is now. It is great that you have a nice active small community.
Jan23, one woman built a great endless stream in her flat yard in Pa. She so inspired me to try to do one. Her name on DG is shihtzumom. She was inspired by the masterwork done by another woman named SongsofJoy in NH. Both have posted great information about creating one and then they both totally helped me out via d-mail when I was starting to put together my plans. My DH was not inspired to help until I had already dug up the old beds and dug a 4 foot deep pit for the pump and then started ordering the materials. He then give in when he saw that it was going to happen and started to help. Now he is totally into it. It is outside the dining room window, so on nights when we have diner in there, we open the windows if it isn't too cold. We love the sound of the running water. Here it is yesterday now in its second spring. We have to rearrange some of the rocks to naturalize it more. The deer just came in two nights ago and did some serious pruning. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I've decided that I need both a water feature and a forest in my garden.
Those water features are absolutely beautiful.... I've been trying to convince hubby we need one...in his mind all water features have fish...I keep trying to tell him they don't need fish, why won't he listen!
What IS with that flowerjen? My DH keeps talking about koi as if it's a given that every water feature has to have them.
Ya, mine too... they must be related!
I also notice that he hasn't volunteered to go out to check on them when it's -40. I don't think he's thought about that part of fishy care.

Patti, I love all the bulbs around your stream. I've been telling myself I've got to plant spring bulbs around mine but, come fall, I get so busy at work I never get around to it! Looks great!
Thanks all, especially SongsofJoy who held my hand through all my dumb questions. I have no fish, I am happy without them. DH might like a few, but we are not going there, yet. Though I have a dear male friend who so wants to dig me a really big pond with lots of fish in it just beyond where this one ends in a low sunny spot. He lives in NYC so he is desperate to dig or chop or do anything that requires hard labor, but only in short and not reliable bursts. He is coming up in late May. I must figure out something besides a giant hole that I don't want for him to do while he is visiting.
Ge1836, the bear is cool, but I agree he needs some greenery around him to hide in and scare people who wander by.
Now, I want to see what SongsofJoy new project is as she always has something major and stunning on her spring plate. Fess up and with pictures, please.
My mulch is arriving, two trucks full. Guess what I will be doing for the next few days? But we hired a couple of people to help. DH has covered it up so it doesn't get any heavier with more rain to come tonight.
Here is a link to my photo's taken in the beds this week. We had too much rain! Many tulips ruined. I took no photo's today as it has been fogging and damp. I did manage to edge some beds and deadhead all the spent blooms. Need to rest up for the mad mulching. Enjoy. Patti

Well as a matter of fact Patti, I do have another large project on my plate for this year, but I'm a little slow getting to it because work has been absolutely crazy and I'm putting in way too many hours there. I hate it when work interferes with the important things! I'll try to get some before pics posted soon.

I never realized anyone could cram so many tulips into a spot.
I'm there for fall bulbs now that I know about Pirls "one hole" system.
JoAnn, very easy to plant a bunch at a time that way. I mixed some red, pink, white, and pink+white together, but don't like the results, so will be separating them out and replanting.

Finished the patio today - just need to do the walkway tomorrow - i'll post when finished.
Fish are a pain. Another thing to have to take care of. Feeding, keeping a close eye on water quality, etc. Not worth it in my book. I enjoy the pond much more now. I enjoy the waterlilies a lot more too. Before I was always trying to cut them back so I could see the fish.
Victor, Do I remember that you had koi? I don't feed mine or do anything special with the water. they eat mosquito larvae and complete the ecosystem. They are easy--just some worry about surviving winter. (mine are comets and shebunkin)
Yes, Dave, I did have koi, which are a bit more demanding than goldfish. They need to be fed more regularly and are very sensitive to water quality, chemistry, salt level, etc. If I ever did do fish again, I would do comets. Or piranha.
Piranha...they will get rid of the deer carcass for you. ^_^

I planted my six new clems today.
How nice! I'm hesitate about what im putting out...we are getting 30 & 31 degree nights next week.
I still need to finish off the cleanup (latest I have ever been) and plant all the FW plants. Also, the begonias and caladiums from the co-ops. I will probably still order a few more things, including annuals.

I got out there today and planted my order from Bluestone and dug up some more for the swap next week.
