Daily Pic Vol. 212

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Hard to believe how fast the last thread went...here is a link to it http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/983314/#new . There are some wonderful pics on it!!

This is the best time of the year for birding IMO and I look forward every morning to all the new birds showing up in the yard. When I walk outside it sounds like the sounds have been dubbed!!

One of the most recent visitors has been the Rose-breasted Grosbeak. This morning I had 5 adult males and 2 females. They are very much at home and seem to like the pickings. Here is a male...

Really nice photos, Rose. You sure have a lot of color in your backyard. It looks like it will be the weekend here in Maryland before things clear up but we needed the rain.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Thanks Linth! I think the jet stream sends our weather your way and we have had more rain than we needed but the same thing happened last spring. One nice thing is we get lots of casual water which means more birds. I think we have had a total of one hour of sunlight in the past 10 days! Supposed to be nice this weekend...I hope!

I almost forgot that we have had a Harris' Sparrow for the past few days. They are such an odd looking little bird but I really like them!

Great start Rose...like a rainbow!

Thanks luv...I almost forgot the juvie Baltimore Oriole! They are not as skittish as the adults and will sit for quite awhile as they listen to the camera clicking. I think it makes them curious...anyway here is the juvie.

this is one of my favorite pictures I ever took. Not a recent picture, but I'm at work looking out the window at another dreary day. I like everyone's pictures in this thread. There is a Harris Sparrow in Lancaster (about 30mins from me) that is way outside his normal range and causing quite a fuss. It is pretty neat to see it as a feeder bird in it's normal territory

Dellrose lots of variety you have. Jec6 those are some big mouths on such small birds. I spring brings out the birds.

I had a different looking bird in the yard yesterday (I don't know how to do the picture thing
on the computer, so bear with me). I think it was a sparow. It had white eyebrow lines & a
huge white stripe down the middle of it's head. Any ideas?

White crowned sparrow? Look in bird book.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

look in bird files…

or search for sparrows there.

Here's Ethel on the nest.

who needs flowers with all this color! so jealous about the orioles. I'll just get my fix here!

I was out looking for new wildflowers and the crows started making a ruckus. Then more crows joined until it was a really loud chorus. And they kept flying in circles. I captured it on my camera, so the video stinks, but you can hear real well. As I get closer you can start to see more and more crows flying around. Not sure I'd ever seen so many gather like this when not late winter. Seemed something got them started, but not sure what.

Well I had quite a surprise in my yard this evening...while waiting on my husband I decided to grab the camera in between raindrops. To my extreme pleasure I had my very first visit and siting of a Rose breasted Grosbeak. Nothing like a life bird in your own tree! Bad pic with the weather but a great feeling!!
