well, I'm back for a few minutes to check in.

Surgery went fine and surprisingly I'm in NO PAIN. But then I had the minister lay hands on me before surgery so that is why I'm pain free. The only down side is every time I get up I get a nose bleed.... this is grossing me out... never will I be a nurse....LOL so it is a good excuse to just be lazy. Besides our garden club just had our yearly plant sale on mothers day weekend and I worked my behind off. so the rest now is wonderful. The community really came out and supported us this year. We tried a few new items 1) hanging assorted annuals the ladies made up 72 hanging baskets and we had 2 left over.... We had few plants from our members this year and our first day total 1,800 was more than the club has made in its two day history. Final tally I believe will be around 2,800 for the 1 1/2 day sale. The wind kicked up so bad we had to close early. So all in all it was an excellent sale. Now we have money to get started on some community beautification and tree plantings for the remainder of the year.

Check out our club web site for some pictures of the plant sale. I forgot my camera on Friday so all the pictures are of Saturday and things are rather picked over and not looking as beautiful as they were Friday.

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

Oh my goodness, I'm going out to do a better luck dance for ya. My goodness it is time for that black cloud to move away from over your head.... be gone with ya now...

How did it start?

Janet

Gentry, AR

thanks for the dance meadowyck the only thing i'm worried about is that in our family bad things happen in 3's. i'm hoping the news we here about 2 hour after the fire about my friend taken to the hospital and having spinal meningitis is the third bad news. because i don't want any more. don't know how the fire started because it doesn't have any electricity to it but we do have a troubled young man in the area that has had problems with fire before but i don't want to point fingers. thats all he would need to be blamed of some thing he didn't do. but the firemen thought that the fire was very suspicious.

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

hope your friend is able to have a full and complete recovery for no lingering affects of the meningitis.

Glad it wasn't your home.....

Janet

Gentry, AR

thanks meadowyck we haven't found out if its bacterial or not yet. my friend that lives across the street saw the flames coming from my house roof but when he got to our house he saw that it was the shed the flames were so high that he could see them over the house. i've got great people living near me. a man from the Mennonite church even stop to see if there was anything they could do for use.

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

Isn't it wonderful when folks come together to help each other. Warms my heart to hear you have folks of this nature by ya.

Sure hope that young man gets some help soon.

Janet

Gentry, AR

meadowyck yes it great to have people like that and the young mans family is trying to get him in a boys camp that helps kids like him. so that should help him get better. all we can do is hope and pray for him.

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

for sure on that.

Janet

Los Gatos, CA

Sorry to hear about the fire and your friend.

Gentry, AR

thanks Imagesoart still no news on the friend. met with the insurance guy today and they will let me know how much is covered.
my squash and cucks are blooming and tomatoes can't wait for the first cucks. my wife has been keeping the strawberry plants clean of those pesky red things that keep growing on them. lol next year planing on planting 1 acre of them then maybe i can get some to the market.
has anyone raised pumpkins for fall "planting timing question"
also planted up some patypan squash first time, had a lady that wanted me to start some for so i planted up about 3 flats and she took half a flat so i planted up 2 1/2 flats, we will see how they grow.

Gentry, AR

finally some good news had 40 chicks hatch out of 48 eggs. i'm happy. and only one red"yellow" chick lol

oh my goodness they are too cute. So this late in the year they still have to have a heat lamp?? Sorry don't have a lick of knowledge when it come to chicks.

Janet

Gentry, AR

i just like keeping them warm until they get their first real feathers. just a precaution on my part.

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

well just don't be cooking them babies before they are grown....LOL

just kidding!

Janet

Gentry, AR

well they are nugget size. lol

Gentry, AR

here is my experiment with squash and pole beans in a hanging basket planted 12 baskets. going to see if curks will work in the baskets too.

Thumbnail by gthumbus
Gentry, AR

and speaking of curks here is what they are up to, and with 80 plants planted so far i'll have a few, anyone want to come over and help make pickles. lol

I had to catch up on your adventures, floods, wrecks, cakes, cukes, etc........
Guess you're not bored.
I like that birthday cake.
sorry about the wreck.
I love pickles-----wish I could get mine to taste like Valasic Zesty Kosher. Mom calls me a pickle slush cause I can drink the whole jar of juice in seconds. I have to stop myself.
If I were just a little bit closer, I'd come help with the pickles.
I have a cuke plant that is full of cukes just the right size for whole pickling.

Cricket
(grandmother said I made noises that sounded like a cricket when I was a baby)

Gentry, AR

hay CricketsGarden good to hear from you and sorry to hear about the tomato problem. there is always something. grandma use to say all our trials just make use stronger. hay i saw those hanging baskets on your porch "want to sell them" lol they were beautiful. hopping to grow those next year for the greenhouse sales.

Nauvoo, AL(Zone 7a)

Those baskets were Easy Wave. I like them better than Wave. All this rain makes the blooms look poorly. :(
believe it or not, there is only two plants per basket. I sowed the seed around the 1st week in January. Sold out a few weeks before MOthers DAy weekend. Had none for mothers day Sales. I will have to fix that next year.

two days ago, I picked a few cherry tomatoes from the vine and tried my best not to touch the plant but a few leaves touched my hand. That evening I had itchy bumps on my hand. Breaks my heart!!!!!! Makes me Mad !!!!!!!!!!
