Sylvia For the future blooming. You can move the pots after the blooms get to that stage. I did and set up light so I could get picture.

Sylvia:

If your blooms didn't open last night I know tonight's the night! They sure look really close! I took a flashlight out and shined the flashlight on the plant to take pictures of mine!

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Looks like I will just be getting growth this year. The attack of the caterpillar and the snails on top of the cold may have delayed blooming for me. Oh well looking forward till next year.

Hi Sandy,
Watching this thread made me angsy....I went and checked on my Epi. Oxy. and make sure they don't sneak up and bloom on me. I love these flowers. They don't demand much, once they bloom. Whoa!!!!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I have over 200 of them but most are only a year old or less. And of the older one, between the squirrels knocking them over and breaking them or me dropping them and braking them or as I said before the attack of the caterpillar who badly damaged 2, one which may not make it. I do not have many large enough to bloom this year. Less than 20 of them where more than a year and a half old.
Boy have I gone crazy in the last year and a half. LOL

This is a picture of one of the damaged ones it has gone down hill since this picture was taken

Boys! Are you sure that's the work of caterpillars? Not four legged critters romping around at night?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

No I found the caterpillar-which I put in the meal worm bowl.

Sylvia -- did it open last night? Once you see them you might catch epiitis like the rest of us here, and let me tell you there's no cure. The only relief you have is more epis! Just ask Sandy about that.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Well it wasn't open when I checked but I also have some Cacti that blooms at night and I saw it open one night and then the next night I wasn't.

Could it be it opens at a certain time? It looks like it had opened .

I snapped a couple of pix , I'll try to upload in a few so you can give me your opinion.

Thanks
Sylvia

You will know when it is going to open but it does not fully open until around 11 pm. It is a one night stand. Some of the others stay ope more than a few hours.

yes it is a sickness. I just bought 4 more!!!!! I am going to be out of room by next year if I stop buying now. On to planning another epi house!!!!

I think it's a passion, when you love a certain plants and wanting to collect them. :-) Mine, Sandy if I remember it correctly. They bloomed in the Fall last year.

Sylvia, first let me say, your flame tree freshly bought? How big is it? LOL, the one shown made me want to move to Fla. lol.

My epi is in a small pot. I put it in a decorative urn to make it look 'presentable' to the front of the border. hahaha. Also, most succulents do like dappled shade which I've alot of in my garden due to tall trees and arbors structures.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

WHO ME!!!! Now you know I would not be that mean. Or would I?????

Sandy the lonely Epi Nut. LOL

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Lily My Flame tree is a baby baby. So no thats not my Tree, LOL but nice pic never the less. Hope to be alive to see mine grow that big LOL . Although someone a few blocks way has one thats pretty big , and beautiful. Its in bloom right now.

Wren: You have such a strong love of Epi's that you may not even be in control of your powers at this point.
Maybe its all subconscious to turn the world into Epi Nuts. ROTF

Pix I took the other night on my NIGHT PRAWL

Do you think it bloomed already and I missed it ?
Hope not .

This is a blooming cacti I have out front , has big huge white flowers !
but wasnt open when I went out the other night , not sure why , I remember them blooming

My guess is they have already bloomed but I could be wrong.

The last picture looks like it has not bloomed yet.

I love all kinds of flowers but at least the cuttings for epi's is more in line with my budget---except when I get carried way. LOl

Sandy

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Wren, actually the last pic bloomed for sure I saw it , but for some reason didn't bloom that night
I'm going out to do some night prowling...... couldn't last night too many storms and lightning

I'll be back with updates.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Well they are not open but the look kind of soggy, if that makes sense.
not plump and happy like they did before , could they be spent?

I think I missed it , darn.

but my Night blooming cacti didn't open either.
this is strange , I'll have to get to the bottom of this or its going
to bother me,

will keep you updated,
Sylvia

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Yes I'm afraid that you missed it, I hate to count how many times I missed mine.

Sandy

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Oh sugar! I'll have to wait for the next one. !

(Zone 1)

Sylvia, I agree with Wren ... I think you missed the blooms. From your photo, it looks as if the buds are hanging down. I learned from Wren when they are getting ready to bloom they begin turning and after a few nights are turned almost straight up, the flower slowly opens and by morning it closes and the bud and stem begin turning down once again until the stem is hanging almost straight down. It was very interesting to watch! Keep an eye on your plant though, you may see more buds sprout.

Now that the oxypetalum has bloomed I'm waiting for Epi hookeri .. the large plant has buds, and I even found one bud on a small potted hookeri.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Dang! Im sure your right now seems like the bud is going to fall off.
I'll watch closer next time.

Sylvia
