I have one and its dying on me. It was quite large, but now its just
a few pieces left. I hate to kill plants so...........
whats the best way to take care of or propagate?
Its only one lonely stalk left with lots of leaves .
thanks
I dont know much about this plant- heck donteven like'em-but
How often are you watering? What type of pot is it in? How much sunlight is it getting?
A epi needs more water than a desert cactus but it is still a cactus and it can be over watered.
Here is a web site that might help. http://www.easycactus.co.uk/site/content/view/16/1/
LOL Orchidman , Will consider relinquishing the hostage.
I've tried to give the plant to a few people but not many like it
or thing its attractive enough to bother with. So my thought was to
get it looking a little better till someone wanted it. LOL
Water I dont water , I let mother nature take care of it. I water it when I'm out
watering other things of course but not often enough to claim anything on a regular basis
Sun, mostly shade, tried sun and it started to fry. Pot , black plastic pot wide but not too deep.
Not much of the plant left, I'll do my best
I'm going to take a picture of it , will post soon.
thanks for the link going to do some reading now ,
thanks all !
The mostly shade sounds ok, but you need to water more often. They are a tropical cactus so in their native environment they get rained on often but the soil must be fast draining.
Ok thats a start ,
just took some pictures and going to post
be back .. downloading

First cut off the dead stuff. The red of those leave mean TO MUCH SUN
it looks like it might be a Epiphyllum oxypetalum. You can repot it up all in the same pot, just let any piece that you cut heal for a few days first.
you can let the ends heal 4-7 days depending on the temp. Just do not over water at this stage. Very very lightly water.
I would pot in a smaller pot but set inside another pot so it doesn't tip over, stake them up with a piece of heavy stick. Tie them up so it'll look neater, give some firtilizer looks like it maybe old enough to flower for you.
It looks like knight blooming Epiphyllum oxypetalum, epies flowers better if they are root bound.
Jan
yes it flowered once, two flowers. kinda peachie in color and it was at night.
so you suggest leave it in pot.
I thought if I did cuttings and crammed them all into one pot
it would get fuller look.
Not sure what to do now
Ok I'll keep working on it,
thanks for all your help
Sylvia
Ok on the watering , will let it dry out and water little
I'm going to try to cut some
and see what happens
Sylvia
yes it was last year it flowered but it was deffinitly peach. very light but peach not a bright white
As for trying to tie them together just tried that and they are
growing spead out . Hard to get them together without snapping
the branches.
thanks all for the help
I'm going to keep working on it
I'm sure something will come if it.
I'll keep you posted.

Since you don't like the plant, is it because it became too big for your area?. Have you thought of sending cuttings to those who would be interested in some, for postage?. It then may have a chance to grow in another environment. I was sent some that had turned red from too much sun and there is new growth on them. It's an idea.
Epis are one of those things you either love um like potato chips or hate them and anyone that has them are crazy. My family and friends thing I'm certifiably insane and need a non stop ticket to the funny farm.
If you are certifiably insane what about me I just bought 8 more that make over 220 of those things and now I am getting started on Rhipsalidopsis "Easter Cactus or Sunrise Cactus" count is up to 3 and do not for get the "Christmas" Cactus 30 of those.
I will join you at the FUNNY FARM as soon as I finish repotting everone. LOL
Sandy the Epi nut
Sandy as insane is you are they have given up and turned you loose to wreck havoc on the world. LOL
I think you are right!!!!! But it is so much fun to be perfectly insane. LOL
Sandy the happy epi nut.
I'll be darned ............. Its blooming!!!!!! The plant its self looks like crap but I have two buds on it ready to bloom. !!!
Who would have thunk it , LOL
thought it was a goner for sure .
Sylvia
Great. They do take abuse well. LOL
Post pictures!!!!! Does it bloom at night or during the day??
Sandy the epi nut.
Blooms at night , I took a pic but it came out blurry.
I have it at the back of a bunch of plants , ( only shady place I could find for sure )
I have to do some climbing , LOL to get good pix
will post soon.
Thanks for the interest!
Sylvia
You are right it does look like heck. In the picture with the bud looks like you have another small bud coming along. Looking forward to seeing the flowers.
Sandy
Gardener, you can cut off dead parts.
Lin I agree if not tonight it will be very soon.
I have growth every where but no buds. Darn. I am getting ready to finish 5th bench, that will leave only the last 4 foot bench.
Sandy
My Epi. hookeri out under the tree in the corner of the backyard has a few buds. I want to move that big plant to an area where it will get a bit more light. Do you think it will blast the buds if it's moved to another location? If so, I will just wait awhile until after it's done blooming.
Well it is always better to go on the side of caution. If it has buds it maybe happy where it is. When I brought my winter bloomer home I lost about half of the buds, so I would be careful and not move it.
Sandy
Sandy ... You have been a big help to me regarding Epi's! I learned from you about watching for the buds to take that upward turn and then begin plumping up and getting fat ... mine is getting closer!
Thanks for the tip- I'll cut off the dead parts wasnt sure what to do ,
Seems when ever I came near the plant it did worse. LOL
