"On The Waterfront" - Part 2

Linthicum Heights, MD(Zone 7a)

30 days seems like a lifetime in the world of nature. The scenery around us suddenly changes …." It is a new dawn, a new day, and a new life and we feel real good". Springtime is like music to my ears. And, I find it difficult to spend time too far from the waterfront. So, please join me in “On the Waterfront” – Part 2. This theme began back in February at:

I’ll start with a few recent photos of the Osprey.

This is Mr. and Mrs. Osprey. The male is on the left and the smaller of the two. These two are experienced parents and have raised several families at this site. In the months ahead, I will visit the site periodically in hope of getting a few more photos of the entire family.

This photo suggests that there is a little bickering going own like in most families.

They live in a "ritzy" neighborhood with a high quality nesting site. Here the Mrs. is sitting on the nest. Unfortunately, I'm unable to look down into the nest so we will have to wait until we can count heads.

They do take turns sitting on the nest. One afternoon, I watched them with fascination and could hear them talking to each other as they changed shifts. I wonder what they were saying ............

A long-distance photo of a Bald Eagle shot at 700mm. He was tucked away in some pine trees so the lighting was terrible.

Spectacular photos, I love the Cormorants photo. I'm amazed that this duck makes their nests in the tops of the taller trees. We recently took a boat trip on our lake to see them and the herons' nests.

The Egret and Osprey photos are excellent! You sure are good with that camera! Thanks for the great showing.

Great shots Linth! Love the Dunlins working hard.

Seems weird to see a Sanderllng on grass, I'm so used to seeing them on the beach.

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Think it's on marine algae, rather than grass? Looks like the stuff I see on some sections of beaches here.

Okay Thanks.

Linthicum Heights, MD(Zone 7a)

Thanks, pelle. Resin is right. The Sanderling photos were taken in the Ocean City, MD inlet. The waves would come in and they would run, only to return within seconds. This photo was posted before on the 'Bird Identification' thread when Resin helped me identify a few different shorebirds.

I was recently walking around a lake and walked out onto a pavilion that jutted out into the water. What I found was a colony of Barn Swallows. I sat under the roofed pavilion for some time, taking photos, as they flew in and out. They were still building their unique nests constructed mostly from mud.

Backs turned to each other ..... must be disagreeing on the location of the nest ?
