Here is a container full of different flowers. I love Lamb's Ears and I love Balloon Flowers. I know the correct name of them, but Balloon is better! I have two planters like this one bet. the patio and grass.
Flowers OT
Very pretty! I have some Balloon flowers (my DH loves them!) and I also have a small growing Campanula with a flower just like that.
Very pretty pot garden sally--I love all Campanula also--too early up here for it. They sell it in the grocery stores in decorative pots in the very early spring--sometimes I;ll but one.
Sally, Thanks for starting a new OT thread for May! That is a lovely container planting. I love the soft, fuzzy foliage on Lamb's Ear and I really like the looks of the combination you have in that planter. I rarely find Balloon Flower or Lamb's Ear for sale here.
Sunflower, compliments of the birds scattering seed everywhere!
It is not a Campanula, it is a Platycodon grandiflorus. They do look a bit alike. Love the way the Balloon comes before it opens.
Sally,
I hope I didn't confuse anybody!! I have 3 purple and 3 white Platycodons and it is so much fun to watch them bloom.I was just mentioning that one of my Campunulas has a very similar bloom.

Oh, I know, They are simular, I was just saying mine wasn't that one, ha. First Balloon flower I bought was years ago when I lived in TN. I thought it was so neat.
Show us your flowers if you can.
I would love to,but it's too early here. All that is in bloom right now are daffodils,Brunnera and Hyacinth.
What a great day for planting. A misty rain, but still warm. I wanted to buy some raspberries, and a friend who just bought a new house said that she had an entire hedgerow of them-most of which she didnt want. I got almosst a dozen good strts before I noticed the threelobed leaf vines climbing amongst them. I was outta there!
Got some exquisite pale lilac starts-very double & aromatic. The person they bought the house from was an avid gardener! How lucky is that??
Yep, it's getting to be the time of year for gardener's to possibly come into contact with those kind of plants: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/b/Anacardiaceae/Toxicodendron/none/cultivar/0/ I remember years ago we had a tree in the backyard that was struck by lightning so my DH hired a tree service to come take it down. These three young men came and surveyed the situation, one had on shorts, no shirt and sneakers. I told them there was poison ivy all over in that area and climbing the tree. He was a bit cocky and said something to the effect of "Oh, poison ivy ain't gonna bother me!" He went up the tree ... but wasn't up there more than a couple of minutes before he was back on the ground! It was so fast it almost looked like the tree was greased, he just slid right down the side of that tree so fast! He was covered with a rash and dancing around and it was pretty comical. Poison Ivy is not funny but I just thought it was such a stupid thing to do, maybe he was trying to be macho or something? His buddies were laughing their behinds off at him and he grabbed the garden hose and sprayed himself off for a good 20 minutes or more (a couple of times!) His skin was covered in the rash! Needless to say, he didn't go back up the tree shirtless! It was a very hot, humid summer day and I really don't remember which one of them did go part way up the tree to begin cutting, but whoever it was had on a long sleeved shirt, long pants, gloves etc. ^_^
Oh Gosh! Stupid! It's not something to play with!
I have been potting stuff from her yard for 5 hours. Just finished before dark!
Raspberries, lilacs, hostas, daylilies. Also planted 300 glad bulbs and divided my own hostas.
Time for a bath!
WHEW, that's a lot of work! I got lots done this weekend too. I can't stay out that long at once though.
ooooohhhhhh myyyyy, where did all those plants come from?????no wonder your tired.lol
mrsbonnie
my friend gave me a bushel basket full of alliums, hostas, raspberries, lilac starts, sedum, extra daylilies. I also had some big hostas that I divided. I potted everything up so I have time to decide where to put it all!
It's beautiful Kivit, but I'm afraid I would be in bed for at least a week..LOL
i'd be in bed for a month.lol
bonnie
A lot of work but fabulous, kivit!
Sally, your combo pots are always so pretty.
Lin, I love that geranium and the golden gift from the birds!
Wow, kivit - Look at all those plants, Beautiful!
Working for hours like that is so much fun but I know what you mean about feeling it later! Sometimes it feels like every bone in my body aches .... Advil is my best friend! ^_^
I also scour the clearance section at Lowes. Today I bought 5 poor looking (but not dying) baskets of bacopa for $.25 each, 7 Gillian Blades clematis, originally $11.95, for $2.25 each. I had asked why they had been put on clearance. No one was buying them because they were not blooming! Unbelievable. Got some pink guara that had dead top growth, but new green shoots coming. Several more plants I dont even know them(avena?) Anyway, they were piled up for the trash. I paid $.10 each.
my garden gets pretty crowded.
Wow Kivit!! Nobody around here sells plants for that price. Most places that put them on clearance wait until almost all top growth is dead (and sometimes the roots are gone too) and then they reduce them to 50% off.By late June or early July they are on final clearance, but totally fried! I love Bacopa for my shady baskets and in your zone Gaura should be hardy. Here it comes back some years and others it doesn't. Avena is not ringing a bell. What does it look like?
Lynn
Wow is right! Our Lowe's and Home Depot don't sell their clearance plants anywhere near that cheap. I am so mad at Lowes right now. Week before last I bought two nice Plectranthus on the clearance rack, originally $5.95 each, marked with a bright yellow sticker at 50% off. I had some other stuff in the cart and when I got to the register I put each item on the counter, told her the two were on clearance at 50% off and she said okay. Well, I just let her do her scanning of prices and bagging while I piled my other stuff on the counter. I didn't pay any attention to my receipt until a couple of days later ... sure enough she charged me the regular price! I will be going back in the next day or so and plan on taking my receipt and the empty pots and getting a refund! I realize that some things can be missed sometimes but I TOLD her those two were clearance and pointed out the yellow sticker which was right next to the upc #! She apparently scanned the upc but didn't notice they came up at regular price. Arrrgh! I'm glad Lowe's is only 2 miles away. I would have gone back that same day but had stuff going on and then ended up being sick with a cold all last week and weekend. I'm almost back to feeling normal but now my husband isn't feeling well. Luckily he's had a week off before he begins teaching Summer A term, then he will be off all of July and August ... gotta get that "Honey Do" list started! ^_^
It looks like an oriental poppy, but bright yellow orange. it is also called Grecian Rose?? I never heard of it. the top is dead but there are 2 shoots coming on.
Our Lowes marks things to 50%, but I watch them. Sometimes they sell off. If they dont I ask the manager if she will go lower. sometimes she wants me to take all of them since they arent selling.
Two months ago, they had gerbera daisies-three to a pot, and the pot was placed in a pretty bright yellow tin. They were $14! Didnt sell. Then they got frost nipped so 50%. Didnt sell. The manager sold me a dozen for $3each, but you have to ask.
Today I bought the last 4-still hadnt sold-for a buck each. The yellow tin was worth that!
Kivit: Your Grecian Rose ... is it Geum? http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/200/ I hope you will post a picture when it blooms.
Oh my goodness ... Gerbera daisies for $3 each??!! Wowsers, would I love to find a deal like that! Oh, I'd love to see a picture of the yellow tin too! What a deal!
I love Gerbera's, only have the one yellow one but have been thinking of getting some more, reds and yellows to plant with the other one just outside my pool area where it gets full sun! We had three freezes this past winter and that thing survived!
why, yes it is! The second one under the link-the orange one is what it looks like. I only have two shoots for now, but I will ceratinly post a picture. Thank you for IDing it.
I had no clue.
I have been planting all day in the rain! Talk about mud! Planted a 25 pack of lillies-orientals are my favorites because they have long lasting flowers & Frangrance. Planted a 25 pack of glads. I am putting them deep & will let them overwinter. So many came back up, it is not worth digging them. Tried to put the raspberries on the back of a bank and slid down the slope twice! Got three planted & decided to come in out of the rain.
Kivit,LOL....you are too funny!! ^_^.
Lin, I overwinter Gerberas in my basement, where sometimes it dips to 50 or below and they bloom all winter. They are pretty tough!
Lynn
Kivit: Your garden is so lovely! Oh, how I'd love to have so many beauties in my yard! Really Beautiful. Love the yellow tin!
The plant in your first photo looks so familiar but I just can't spit out the name, LOL. My first thought it was Gladiolus but I know that's not right ... maybe it will come to me shortly!
I LOVE Clematis. My sister sent me some for my birthday ... they are sprouting but I'm not sure they will survive down here with the heat of summer. I put about 2" of mulch on top of the soil but I have a feeling the roots still won't be cool enough.
Lynn, have you ever grown gerberas from seed? I have a bunch of sed from last fall that may even be labeled for color. Care to try some?
