Great shots everyone. I wish I could get some Orioles to my backyard. Do they prefer backyards that's close to the wood area? My backyard is not that close but I have a couple of trees.

Quoting:
I think this poor lady looks a little disappointed with her lot in life

She could make a fortune setting up in the guano industry!

We went to the park yesterday and some kids were using halves of bagels whice were covered with peanut butter and bird seed then hung on trees. The birds were loving the treat. I may have to try this one!

Again at the park-Clear Lake State Park-we listened to some people that rescue owls and all raptors. This was a live Eurasian Eagle Owl which can't be released because of damage to its wing. It was gorgeous.

Another one that couldn't be released was the Red Tailed Hawk.

Another of the Red-tailed Hawk. The lady sprays a light mist of water on the hawk to relax it and it works.

Hi Methodical, I'm no expert on Orioles but we have a lot of trees in our yard including several large Oak trees and a couple of large sycamore trees and the built nests in both for a total of four nests last year. I certainly hope they build that many this year, or more!

Nice Hawk Duc.

Met, have you seen orioles in your area? I never would have thought about even trying. But we saw them flying around the first summer we lived here. So last summer so I was on a mssion to get them. Now I am near lots of woods and we have lots of orioles around so it was much of a challenge really. They are very shy birds.

If you really want them and they are in oyur area, I would get a pole mounted platform feeder to put the fruit in and that has arms to hang a nectar feeder or two on.

Wow, I was gone for the weekend and y'all just took a ton of beautiful shots! I love that Purple Finch burn. I'm dying to see one.

I was at a great birding place over the weekend on the San Jacinto River. Fab birds everywhere but I only got a few decent pictures. It was raining off and on. That's my excuse anyway! There were at least two pairs of Red-headed Woodpeckers.

Tufted Titmouse a seen through the window and screen. Still pretty cute even if a bit blurry. One of them kept flying from one rearview mirror to the next all day long.

There were six male Cardinals and they didn't fight. In my yard, the male chases away any other males that show up. Maybe they are more territorial when there are fewer resources?

Your TT is so so cute, but the Redheaded WP is fabulous! Wow!

Marlton, NJ

Great shots guys!

Love the Eurasian Eagle Owl duc!

Burn, Love the Purple Finch!

Elphaba, Love the Red-headed Woodpecker!

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks Pelle and Lily_Love. I got lucky with the Red-headed WP b/c the sun came out for a bit, and I went outside and he landed near me before he realized that I was there. The rest of the pics are pretty dark and all a bit blurry. I was able to ID (w/ help!) to new birds from the pictures though, a Blackburnian Warbler and A Prothonotary Warbler.

I went for a walk with my friend and foolishly did not take my camera. We saw about half a dozen Indigo Buntings! I was so mad at myself!

Duc, I was pretty amazed by the Eagle Owl. What a beauty.

Nanny,

Oops! I didn't see that new thread was started. So, I'll ask the question here about the jelly for the Orioles. How do you keep the ants out of the jelly?

Rose
