Oh wow! Tell me he wasn't serious! I think you need to have a little talk with him about the birds and the bees, literally! LOL!
Shaking My Head
My DH went through school in Encinitas.....now I understand. I thought he was the only one who asked questions like that. LOL
Well, you gotta love em for who they are. At least he even notices the tomato flowers! I had one who was so into himself that he wouldn't even notice if I shaved my head.
Judi, You are right...you have to love them for who they are...especially when they are trying to pay attention to the things that matter to you. I will have to take a picture tonight of one of my husband's most recent "gifts" to me. I still shake my head every time I look at it, but I have finally found a solution that will make good use of his gift and won't hurt his feelings. He is something of an inventor, and is always thinking outside of the box.....which can be both good and ...ummmm...not so good.
Sally, We were just down the hill in Lakeside. My DH thought Lakeside was "the country" until we moved to OREGON....
Ginger
LOL You think it was something in the water, that only affected males? Gotta love em, I agree.
Curious about Julie's gift. hmmmmmm

Sigh....My gift.
Have to give you a tiny bit of background before I reveal it. We have lots of dogs, and although I love them to death, there is absolutely NO chance of sitting down in the yard without at least one or two of them wanting attention and giving you kisses. As I like to lay in the sun and read if and when I get caught up in the yard, I invented my "dog free" zone...put a ladder on the side of one of our storage containers and put some redwood furniture on the top and voila...dog free zone to lay in the sun! Well, DH was thinking of me when he was helping a buddy move a bunch of stuff so he decided to make it easier for me to get down from my sunning area...........
A swimming pool slide! He even mocked it up for me before I got home as a surprise! Isn't this a lovely addition to my garden? Not only does it end about 2 1/2 feet in the air so if I were to actually use it I would probably break my neck, but it also makes it a bearcat to mow that area!
Fortunately, I was able to think really fast and told him how absolutely sweet that was of him, but instead of an escape route for my sunning area, I would love to use it to make my waterfall that will eventually be flowing down my terrace. Whew....saved without hurt feelings!
^_^ Dontcha just love them to pieces!!! Very clever response as well.
Julie.....you're a master!!! Very clever indeed. ROFLOL
Also very clever to come up with the dog free zone. Now, I need a cat free zone!

Thanks for the compliments, but I am SO far from being a master! I honestly think that my Dad reached out to me with this one. My brother inherited his sharp wit and quick thinking, while I got Mom's slower, more methodical mind (the one that wakes DH up in the middle of the night after an arguement and says "OH YEAH, well blah blah blah blah....SO THERE!). If it wasn't dad helping me, then I just plain got lucky!
You are all fortunate to have sweethearts that think of ways to make your lives better.
But those guys are funny at times!!!

OOH, I love it! I totally disagree with you, Julie! Sure, a waterfall would be great, but how about a water SLIDE???? Just the treat to get you down from your sunny area on a hot day. Add some banana trees and some other large leaved plants around the slide where you just see it peeking out through the leaves. You could be like Jane of the jungle! Got to love a guy who thinks like that.
Pixy, I can start to get behind the whole Jane of the Jungle cooling waterslide idea...especially with a tropical flare! Unfortunately for this semi-uncoordinated person, it is much better (not to mention safer!) if waterslides end in water! Doesn't mean that I can't incorporate a little pond at the bottom of my waterfall though.....hmmmm....
me thinks a plan is in the works!!
Oh absolutely! I just got so excited about the prospect, I forgot to put in that part. After all, if you are sunning on the deck, then it's hot enough to slide into a pool! I am totally seeing banana trees behind that slide! Plus bamboo. You'll need many big leaved plants. Since you would have to excavate an area for the pond/swimming hole, how about extending it a bit and making part of it a boggy area where you can grow a giant gunnera! You have the space for it. The combination of sunshine and water would make a gunnera very happy in this area.
As the water runs down the slide it could be aerated and cleansed. Water is treated this way, known as 'flowforms' in Jarna, Sweden and in many other places. Jarna was the first place to do this, and it was inspired by Rudolph Steiner's anthroposophy and created by the sculptor John Milkes. I spent some time there soing research on the architect Eric Asmussen and his theories of healing environments. http://antroposofi.org/vidar/healthcare.htm
My good friends Gary and Susanne Coates, both professors of architecture, have written extensively about Jarna and the Vidarkliniken and are considered the experts on Eric Asmussen. Unfortunately, Eric Asmussen is now dead and I feel very privileged to have met and studied with him for a short time in Jarna. I was able to live in one of the patient rooms of the clinic and that was amazing. Anyway, as long as you are doing something with the slide and water, you might want to investigate 'flowforms' and the water treatment going on in Jarna.
Back to shaking my head.
Finally got my canopy gazebo for the back yard.....and DH was supposed to go get the table/w firepit and chairs we agreed on.. All in place for dinner with kids and granddaughter last night. Son came over to help raise the canopy etc.
I was at work so did not supervise the table/chair purchase.
He bought the table.......but NO CHAIRS. He decided we should wait until the next paycheck because he already spent enough.
He was thinking we would just bring out the dinning room table chairs..
The ETHAN ALLEN ANTIQUE CHAIRS.
NO...NO...NO..
ARGGGG.......I had to go rescue two old white plastic chairs from the donkey arena and brought the mounting block for the extra tall horse in and Ryleigh sat in her stroller.....
( I did get even by buying a *SALMON* shirt for him for Father's Day.....He says it's PINK.)
Today...chairs.
Ginger
ROFLMAO! You have a PROBLEM with Ethan Allen as yard furniture??!!?!?
Judi--thanks for the food for thought! Have a lot of work to do before the terrace is ready for sculpting, but I have bookmarked the link.
Pixy...isn't it scary how ideas develop a life of their own?
Ahhh...kicking back in CHAIR under gazebo with fake beer (best I can do under the circumstances) watching birds.goats/donkeys...and all new planted daylilies....
Life is good.
Ginger
ROFLOL.....you can have Ethan Allen chairs in the same house as your Dh? Mine wouldn't be able to handle the stress of trying not to scratch them.
What is fake beer?
non-alcoholic. Have a friend who drinks Near Beer.
ROFLMBO!!!! YOU GUYS MAKE MY DAY!!!^_^
