Shaking My Head

(Judi)Portland, OR

Sofer you don't have to run interference but perhaps he could be your wing man?

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Lurking on this post, but after Judi's last comment I couldn't restrain myself...... all of you crack me up!! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Good metaphor Judi because even here women are from the equator and men, well who cares. I do need a wing man in the battles of conversation that will ensue during the hot August night of the swap meet at Lynns. You guys will all have time to plan your warfare and I just will be saving lives all day Saturday. I hope he comes.

Poor Soferdig! This is just normal female conversation, Steve! There is no battle going on here, no warfare. Can't you tell that these women love their men?? LOL!!

(Judi)Portland, OR

It's that conquering thing Pix, they just can't shake it.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

When men talk about women it is much less true and more exaggerated towards the female. We also focus on the obvious and it usually doesn't get communicated to her. Words like: I like her.., Look at those..., She is a ......, Wow would'nt I like..., How bout those Seahawks, LOL. Yes we focus on conquests. Most important thing to do around the communial fire every night. Hrrrrrrrr!

How bout them Chargers....and DANG LOOK AT THAT HORSE RUN (nice Derby)

Some girls cross gender lines with a passion :)

Ginger

Go girl!
Yep, Portland, I know what you mean. If there isn't a winner and a loser, what point is there? LOL!!!

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

I love the testosterone ouzing into our other since women have stepped out of the TV sterotype taught to our mothers.

(Judi)Portland, OR

What???

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

I agree, what???

Off topic, but:

Anyone who is interested in the first annual PNW Roundup, please see my new thread and give us some help if you can!

Thanks!!!

Julie

Sofer, we're good with language, but not THAT good! Please note that the psychic connection that allows women to kick A## in pictionary does not work with interspecies communication over the internet. You have to proofread around here! :) I think the testosterone gets in the way.

(Judi)Portland, OR

LOL

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Translation: "I love the testosterone = Male tendencies. Oozing out of our other = our wife. "Since women have stepped out of the TV stereotype = Allowed themselves to enjoy and partake in completion and sports. "Taught to our mothers" = Your mothers have accepted what you have accomplished and now willingly partake. Sorry to be so vague.

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Ok, now I get it! Pretty fond of the fact that I am not expected to sit home barefoot and pregnant myself! (OK, just kidding, but I did have to throw that out there.) I cross gender lines with a passion myself, but love to be feminine as well. It is nice that in this day and age a woman can race a dirtbike and a man can raise a child. It makes us appreciate the effort that the other side has put in in the past!

(Judi)Portland, OR

Sofer - that's such old news.

Bend, OR(Zone 5a)

My house is such a reversed household.

I have a great job that pays well enough for my DH to stay home and care for a friend of ours who is terminally ill.

He cooks, cleans, launders, feeds the farm animals and putts around on the large lawn tractor thingy. He is not a sports fan.

I work out of town all week and come home and plant new things, drink beer and am a crazed Charger fan and tripple crown follower.

We both play poker.

It is a match made in heaven :)

I love it when I hear about relationships that really work. Hooray for you, as long as you don't belch and scratch your crotch when you drink beer!

Bend, OR(Zone 5a)

I occasionally stick my hand in the front of my jeans...but not very far.

LOL^_^

(Judi)Portland, OR

Ha ha LOL!!!

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

I just left my mother in Michigan and she and my dad had that relationship until he died. Yes it is old news to us but not to them. Kind of sad. We are fortunate enough to have changed the world rather rapidly in the 60's and 70's. Now to understand what we have acomplished.

Bend, OR(Zone 5a)

At 48 I have all my grandparents still except one grandfather who passed a year ago.
They also were the same kind of couples. Very equal. Grandmothers had their own businesses and still were the matriarchs of the families.

My two strong grandmothers taught me a lot as did my two fair minded grandfathers. (Except when it came to grandma catching the bigger salmon. That tended to make gramps grumpy.)

Ginger

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Yes my mother was not strong and did his bidding. Cooked, cleaned, worked, packed his suitcases, carried them to the car....... So she was trapped in that moment. She never competed with him because her interests were far from his. She didn't even fight for the tv time she wanted. He just blanked out her channels. Kind of sad.

Bend, OR(Zone 5a)

Oh that is sad. But she did good by you it seems :)

from what I can tell you are friendly, kind and care about the earth.

Sometimes I am sure my kids have learned from me what not to do.

Ginger

Sofer, who knows why your mom chose the way she did? It was much harder back then for women to be equal partners in marriage. I'd say that if you grew up with that as your model, you've come a long way, baby! :)

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

She is very codependent and needed to care for an alcoholic. She never decided to work on that and stayed with him. Now I loved my dad but he created a life where I had to become the Adult in the family at age 8. Since then I have been the codependent who solved all the family conflicts. But 20 years ago I learned boundaries and learned as an adult child how to change. It wasn't easy but inch by inch everything is a cinch.

Sorry I missed this post until now, Sofer. Sounds like you've had a lot of learning in your adult life! It's always up to us to decide what to do with the childhood we were given. You've certainly made the best of yours and turned it into an opportunity to learn differently. I always consider that people like you begin a new page on the family tree.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Yes one good thing is the family traditions of the past are over and my daughter can have a life free from the same worries. Life is fun and most interesting especially when you have to daily put the learning to work. Being that it is not natural but rather rewarding when you make the right decisions and they make life easier or more fulfilling. I am still working and shall continue.

Good work, Steve! Just think how different your grandchildren's lives will be. I love it when family trees start a brand new, happier branch.. It has an effect on all future generations. My dh changed the direction of his family tree, too. In my mom's family, it was she who changed the direction. Many of my clients are in that position in their own families.

(Judi)Portland, OR

Interesting discussion. It took me 28 years of an emotionally limiting - abusive seems so strong a word - marriage before my head screamed "enough" and I ended it. I remember standing in front of the mirror and looking at myself and thinking "what are you doing" and from that point on i was fine. Sofer - pattern changers like you will help so many in the future.

Back to shakinig my head.

DH asks.."Why is our tomato plant growing flowers and not tomatos????"

(Judi)Portland, OR

Stand him on his head - increases blood flow to the brain.
