Dellrose,
One night only last fall I counted 9 Hb at my front feeder at once all peacefully drinking and taking turns. It was the coolest thing to see. They must have been passing through since it was just the one night. Otherwise I only get a couple at once. The amount you get must really be spectacular. I could not imagine. Mrs._ed and myself get so excited over just one.
LOL
I know this is the Hb thread but I must tell for I am sooo excited. I have a red-headed woodpecker at my feeder tonight...several times too. 1st time ever. He was sitting on the limb above the feeder for a minute so my five year got to see him. He is sooooooooooooooo pretty. I knew they were out here but never seen one so close. WOW is all I can say.

Actually alot of us get so thrilled to have one or two HB visitors. LOL
I don't know if this link has been posted before.
It's a live cam of a HB on her nest.

Lynn...I get excited over one Hummer also! Last year it seemed like it took forever for one to show up and when one finally did I was jumping through hoops!! You are sooo lucky to have the Red-headed Woodpecker at your feeder. Last year I had them land on our dead tree and it thrilled me to no end!! Very exciting!
Thanks for the link Gabagoo...very cool to see them on the nest.
This is a terrible pic but I have been waiting to get a shot of a Hummer on this hook!!
I have a similar hook, D-Ro!
Had another male hummingbird at 10 am this morning. Otherwise, pretty slow.
nice Dell.... very neat
pout.
Hee...
I *think* I saw one last night. I was on HummieWatch 2009 when Lucy or Ricky the Chickadee distracted me. I looked back at the feeder and saw a cardinal on top of the hook and what appeared to be a hummie zooming off!
Ah, the mysteries of life. How can the little buggers be all the way up in Canada & a lot of
us have only had maybe 1 or 2 so far? Hmmmmmm.
They are probably busy making eggs in their nest so they eat more protein (bugs) at that time.
Excellent shots Rose!
nice shots Dell
lalalalalala.....I did see one sitting up on a wire down the street yesterday. NOTHING at the feeder tho'.
Just saw another male. It was kind of funny though. The chickadee kept trying to chase it off. Apparently too close to the chickadee house. So it moved to the feeder on the other side of the yard.
Congratulations onewish!!!!
thanks Pelle!!.... I was filling our suet feeder.... and glanced over at the hummer feeder... froze dead in my tracks... it didn't notice me... the little one was only a few feet from me.... and all I wanted to do is jump up and down
Yay Onewish!!!
had two male for dinner at my house tonight the female wont show up for about three weeks yet
Not a hummingbird post.... but while in the backyard planting I found a brown thrasher's nest! I had scared her 2 times and I decided to look. She had a nest beneath the giant hosta leaves and it had eggs! LOL
I am bumping up my sugar content for the hummers but I still don't have many. I am thrilled they are still here to watch, no complaints about the number.

still trying to get pics of the little guys lol they are not co operating and my camera is old and I think to slow
Bluegrass, That is cool about the nest!
I think she feels safe in my yard this year. I have always had outside cats until last fall when my kitty passed on. It was a nice surprize for a bird watcher.
I have a field full of Indian Paintbrush and other wildflowers, but I still have a half-dozen that are on and off the feeders all day. They really love the Autumn Sages I planted this year, they always hit them before the feeder.
A pic of the feeder my son brought by today for my wife-- M-Day you know.
that's pretty
Only had 1 hummer briefly, about 10 days ago. No sightings since. Where have they all
gone??!!
Hi Red,
The new feeder is really pretty. I would love to have indian paintbrush. It is a pretty flower. I finally have a few flowers starting to bloom. This seems to be a really slow spring or else I really need to research early blooming plants. I'm betting on both.
last night two males showed up and they had an ariel battle it was an amazing sight hard to believe they can be so wild for their size, so me and DH had great entertainment for about an hour
ha. that does look like Ed!
...now that is scary Mrs. Ed!! LOL
