2009 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds Vol 2

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Hi Everyone...time to start another volumn of the RT Hummingbirds and hopefully it will fill up in no time. Here is a link to the previous thread http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/961390/ .

I have some window shots but haven't been able to get many shots outside yet. I hope the wind dies down today and I can venture out (wearing my red foam cowbow hat of course)! LOL!

Here is one of the males.

PERTH, Australia

Gorgeous, Rose. So's your last shot on the last thread. And they're window shots? You'd never know it. You have clean windows.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Thanks Margaret and Marna!! Margaret, the males were taken through a window and the female was a long shot outside!

I haven't seen any this morning but I am hopeful I will have company again today. Here is a male showing some personality!

I should'nt waste my time trying to get pics.....mine sure can't compete with yours, Rose. I did see a hummer again this morning, but only for a second.

Question - Where is the best place to hang the hummingbird feeder? Is it okay to hang it by my other bird feeders?

Marlton, NJ

I like to hang mine away from the others. There is too much traffic at my regular feeders.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

A fighting pair of males this AM.

YAY GM!!!! No pics yet here... he saw 2 & I have seen one and it was female.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

I bought one of those hanging pots with purple and white flowers and green leaves and the male Hummer likes it Mikey!! Too bad the wings got lost in the shadow!!

Way to go Nanny!!

Here are more shots I took late yesterday when they seem the most active. They are increasing in numbers and last night just before dark I could count at least 14...I am hoping they are the regulars.

Here is a female coming in for a landing...not too sharp but I liked her little feet!!

The female that was already at the feeder wanted to do battle with her!

The tongue shot is too cool. They are so much fun to watch, we have only had a few straglers so far. I am hoping for a few more.

Beachwood, NJ(Zone 6b)

Well I see you're picking up with where you left off last fall!

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

Good gracious, dell, if you have four at the feeder at once now, how many do you think you have in total around the yard this month?

(Even at our high peak here, we seldom get four at one feeder at once!)

Looks like you will really go through the cane sugar this summer!

Marlton, NJ

Earlier I think she said she counted 14!!!

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

dell must have an absolute bird haven there with all the HBs, BBs, and Orioles around!

I bet she is right in a migration path~~I wonder?

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Mrs. Ed...LOL!

Tab...Pelle is right...I counted 14 the other night...that is when the most show up and put on their show!

Here is a female from the other evening.

Edited to say...yes I believe we are on a migration path as we do get many species through our state. It drives me nuts to read our ListServe and read about all the birds that are out there that I have yet to see. And of course I drive DH nuts watching through the windows constantly!! LOL...I know you all do the same thing!!

Hey Rose, just curious about what time in the early evening they start showing up. I can't recall.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Hey Marna...it seems like they show up about six or six-thirty and the madness continues past dark! I will be sure and watch the clock tonight to be sure.

Marlton, NJ

Same here. nice one Rose!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Well I was thinking it was 6-7ish.

I'll be on hummer watch tonight then. They should be here by now! They are two days late. LOL!

Marlton, NJ

They were late for me too Marna.
