April Flowers IV

Beautiful plant, Joseph. Admittedly, I am partial to variegated violets and like you would have impulsively purchased what I believe is Optimara 'Tradition'.

Hi Goldleaf, thanks for your message. Optimara Tradition surely does look like a match!!

Beautiful! I would buy that--named or not^_^

I don't want to cause a wrinkle in the name game, but Optimara Tradition is a standard - is it a trailer, though? It looks like Joseph either has a trailer, or maybe multiple plants in one pot? Very pretty, though, Joseph!

I think Joseph has a nice fat sucker in his plant he could remove if he wants to grow his plant single crowned or remove and root for another plant.

Going technical on me huh? LOL I will look at the pot and plant more closely...but memory right now makes me think it isn't a trailing growth habit.

i love seeing you over here on the AV forum, Gerris!

Thanks, Gail, I have to be careful, I have no self-control so coming into this forum is quite a dangerous monetary act for me. LOL!

Hi All,
I wanted to ask you a question. I am putting my plants on matting... I wanted to know when I put fertilizer in my water do I just pour it on the mat or do I have to water each plant at that time?
Ok Gail which person are you in the picture? Are you the lady in black?
Thanks for any help.
Hugs,
Susan

Susan - when you mat water, you want to make sure the whole mat gets wet. If your pots are wicked, the wick will absorb the water from the mat instead of directly from the water. If they're not wicked, make sure the pot is flat on the mat, so the soil can absorb the water from the met.

Thank you Nic, that is what I thought... I just wanted to make sure... Almost all plants are wicked just the baby ones are not yet... I thought I could do more tomorrow but Grandsons birthday party... I thought it was on Sunday... Hey what do I know...LOLOL
Thank you once again,
Susan

I have had two people ask me which person I am ................thought you ladies knew me.........I am the one in the black clothes on the right side of the picture (the one who needs a haircut badly)

Susan , I put the fertilizer in a gallon of water (diluted for small plants and try to use an orchid fertilizer until their leaves are looking really sturdy..........on the capillary matting....20-15-14 or something like that with a high nitrogen count). Then , once the leaves are really getting some form and getting strong, I start rotating regular av food and the orchid food............

Good luck.........you already grow better than i do anway............

Ok well thanks for telling me which person is you... Nice to meet you...LOL Why would I know which one was you? I never seen a picture of you.. Now I don't know about the better growing then anyone else...LOL I kill just as much as anyone else.... I got so many Av's at the show I went to and I am down to very few now...LOL I can grow a av from a leaf like crazy but keeping them alive is another story... I have a few trailers doing pretty good...
Can someone dmail me and tell me how you do a blast dmail to more then one person at a time???? I have a birthday party today for our GS but when we get home I am hoping to take a few pictures of some of the younger plants that are blooming... One is red typhoon (sp) It looks pretty..

Well, look at all I've been missing! I don't know what happened but apparently I somehow deleted this page from my watch list! Arrrgh ... I should leave well enough alone but sometimes play around with my preferences and then get things all messed up!

I consider all of y'all pro's at growing these gessie's ... what gorgeous blooms! You all do such a great job! I wish I had the patience, seems like the older I get, the shorter my attention span! LOL

Gail: What a wonderful "gift" your church gave your friend with that nice Birthday party! I know she feels truly blessed, having so many folks care so much about her. I am so glad you posted her photo, and told us a little about her. She is the most beautiful bloom of the day! When I hear stories of people like your friend who are struggling with serious illness and doing it with such dignity, it truly is an inspiration! I hope she had a wonderful birthday!

Now, Miss Gail ... You're a beauty with or without a mouth full of teeth, but that is a great picture of you, you look so pretty and your smile lights up the room! Congrats on the new "choppers", I know you will enjoy that steak when you get a chance to eat it! Nine months is a long, long time not being able to chew! I know what you mean about needing a haircut! My hair is waaay too long ... I need about 8 inches cut off, just never seem to take the time to go and get it done. With the heat of summer already here and temp's hovering in the mid to upper 80º range some days, it is getting very uncomfortable and too much hassle! I keep it in pony tail or bun most of the time, and even with a high pony tail it's still so long that the pony tail reaches my armpits! Gotta get a haircut!

Well, I'm heading out to play in the dirt for a little while! I also want to trim up a couple of shurbs, was going to have my Hubby do it but he is giving a couple of final exams today so I'm on my own for working in the yard. He gives his last two finals on Monday and then will have a few days off before he begins teaching Summer A term. We hope to take the boat out a few days next week!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Lin, I LOVE that saying...............isn't it the truth.................thanks for sharing............

My youngest sister gave that little picture frame/plaque to me for my birthday, and I love it. I used to have a very long list of "verses" and "sayings" that I'd write down over the years, whenever I saw one that had meaning to me. I have no idea what ever happened to my list but I bet it's around here someplace! I had plans to do something "crafty" with them at one time, alas ... age and forgetfulness took hold. ^_^
