Which forum to ask...

...someone to help translate something to Spanish? I want to make a marker for a plant I don't want touched and some of the guys that work for the landscaper only have a little English, and my Spanish is limited to how to take medication (I'm a pharmacist ^_^ ).

"No toque esta planta" means "don't touch this plant"

I used an online translator and it translated to this:
"Plants in danger. It does not cut, to throw, or the aerosol is thankful to him please. Thanks"

but I don't know how accurate online translators are...

another one gave me this:

I'd say that message will get it across.

Now if your contractors will obey the sign, is a completely separate matter!! ^_^

True enough! It would be nice if I can keep them off at least the endangered plants (plantas en peligro?) ^_^

If it was me and if this was just a temporary job, I'd put a box over the plant for the duration that they were present.

It is much faster to just point to the plant and say "Dejalo" or to put a sign that reads "No hace nada a esta planta" so something to that effect.
or
Que no toques esta planta would put this phrase in the right tense and is a little more polite.

Plants in danger might give them a chuckle because they are in danger of what - en peligro de extinción tells them what they are in danger from and will give them a better idea what they are dealing with. If it was mine I would put on the sign -

DEJALO
PLANTA EN PELIGRO DE EXTINCION

or something close to that...

Thanks Mitch! Would the plural be Plantas en peligro de extincion? I just want a general sign so they don't touch anything. I'm putting in a lot of natives, and after all, most native plants are endangered somewhere ;~)

We're in a townhouse, so this is ongoing. As long as nobody complains, I can pretty much do whatever I want with my little spot. But I think the landscaping crew is sometimes told to just pull up anything they don't recognize. They don't recognize much; they pulled up the last little columbine left from when we moved in.

Plants in danger=plants in danger of landscapers who don't know what they're doing! hee hee

Yep plantas is plural - never a problem - you can shoot me an email or dmail anytime you need some Spanish.

I would not put a box over it with no message, they wold think it needed to be "saved" from the darkness etc.

NEVER trust babelfish etc to translate something imporant
like saving a plant....

Also rememner that there is SDpanish from Spain, quite different from Spanish from Mexico, which is diferent from TexMex and all vary from South American Spanish 0 meaning that babelfish is a machine and
cannot pick up on nuances of human speak and using babelspeak could cause a "fox
paws" LOL.

YOou could say :"No tacar esta plant o moriras" (I am being half joking... that means dont touch this plant or YOU will die.

The basic sign could just say

No toque esta plant

or

Deje esta planta en paz

What I do is make it clear ahead of time, whether they speak English, Spanglish, Soanish or Mandarin, that you will mark plants liek that in an agreed-upon
manner. I mark mine withthe plastic hot orange or pink flags
that utility workers use to make likes, Ir tue plastic ribbons around the pant stem. I buy
tolls of the plastic ribbon at the local hardware store and dole it out as needed.
