Thanks Crissy. I appreciate all the encouragement I can get. Some days are harder than others and some are so easy. But I WILL do it this time.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

It will be 1 Year for me in June. I did 2 rounds of Chantix....it made it so much easier. I still want one every now & the. DH still smokes but he has to do it outside or in the garage. No smoking allowed in the house...period!

I was on the quit smoking forum on Village .com the first try and marking my days. I found that made me think about it even more. SO the second time no counting the days or posting on any sites. Just kept busy...and the next thing I knew it was fall!

Now to tackle the weight...LOL!

Good luck to all of you...don't give up!

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Pat on the back!! Good work!!
I noticed the price of cigarettes at the gas station today--Holy cow!! Surely you'll have more fun with that money!

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

So far so good..How goes it Tina

(Zone 7a)

Good job to everyone who has quit.

How are you doing today LLLPA?

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Thinking of you LLLPA. Hope you've tried again. Barb

Dallastown, PA(Zone 6a)

So far, NO good LOL. I wish I could say that I have quit, but I'm still smoking. I have cut back some, but I just can't seem to 'kick it' completely! It's soo frustrating!!! I'm beginning to think that heroin addicts have a better shot of kicking their habit than I do of quitting smoking :(

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

I do know what you mean..Have you gave any thought of Chantex..
I'm using it..Works for me..
Slowing down is a start.Don't give up PLEASE..

Tubby

(Zone 7a)

I agree. Don't give up. Slowing down is better than nothing. Take your time and keep us posted how it's going. Some of us are on all the time and can give a pep talk if needed. We're rooting for you!

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

For sure we are rooting for you!!!(LOL) Pun intended!!!! If at 1st you don't succeed...try, try, again!!!!

Dallastown, PA(Zone 6a)

Thanks, All! TubbyTee, I don't want to use the Chantix because I already deal with anxiety. My doctor informed me that it can work but the side effects could heighten my anxiety. I'm not up for that. I quit cold turkey years ago, but at the time I was younger and I had only been smoking for 3 yrs. I guess it's just not as easy as you get older and you end up having smoked for the last 10 yrs. I guess I'm just gonna keep trying. If I want it bad enough, it will come... Thanks again, Everyone for your support. I love DG more than I love my Facebook site LOL. Which reminds me, I need to renew my subscription here... I won't tolerate being left out of any forums LOL!

Daily applause for anybody who has reduced or quit smoking. Any step in the right direction! The journey of a thousand miles,...

Katy, TX(Zone 8b)

Two years and counting for me. I quit cold turkey after smoking over 60 years. It took MSRA, COPD and being resuscitated for me to quit. Even today I will jokingly say "sure wish I had a cigarette" but if one was available I probably would pick it up and even light it but don't think I could stand the taste again. We like to go over to Louisiana and gamble in Lake Charles. The only bad part of it is the stench of the cigarettes. It's horrible to me. Without the help of my husband who quietly put all the cigs and lighters and ashtrays someplace - I don't know and don't care where - so that I would not be tempted I wonder if I could have really stopped. The battle never ends, it seems. In the beginning when I was in the hospital I made a bargain w/2 of my daughters that I would quit smoking if they would lose weight down to 160#. Today they still have not honored that bargain and each of them weighs over 210# and they are short women. All in all, as far as that bargain goes, I figure that I am the winner.

You'd be a winner anyway because you are now smoke free!!! I too went cold turkey after 50 years of smoking. I'm only four weeks tomorrow but I already feel better. My determination is very strong this time.

Denton, TX(Zone 7b)

I quit using Chantrix. I smoked for over 30 years and it was the only thing that ever worked for me....and I had tried everything! It worked because I got to smoke for two weeks while it blocked the nicotine receptors. By the time my two weeks was up(quitting day), I could hardly stand to smoke a cigarette. It tasted awful and gave me a headache. I still craved them some but it was the easiest quit I ever had. I have been smoke free for two years last February.

Another thing that helps....don't know if it was mentioned yet. It's the Silkquit meter that you put on your computer desktop. It's free if you scroll down to the bottom of the page and download. It keeps a record of how many days or months you have gone without a cig, how many days or months of your life that you have saved, how much money you've saved by not buying cigarettes. When I wanted a cigarette I thought no, won't do it because I don't want to have to reset my Silkquit meter. I think there is also a support forum on Silkquit site, as well.

Here is the silkquit website:

http://www.silkquit.org/stop-smoking/quit-meter.aspx

Forgot to mention, I only took half of the recommended dosage of Chantrix and I had few side effects...only a little nausea. I didn't have anxiety...actually felt kind of euphoric while taking it. I stopped taking it as soon as I lost the craving for a cigarette.

I smoked the whole time I was getting Chemo..I spent more time out side the hospital puffing on cigs than I did in my room..My Chemo was a 96 hrs straight slow drip.I had to spend one week each month in hospital. After I had transplant I quit.I quit for a little over a year..During that year I had mytril valve installed in my heart..In recovery room the nurse didn't want me to drink pepsi..When I finally got my MOUTH working I told her I gave up smoking ..I was not giving up my PEPSI..LOL...Found out later she only meant till I had my head on straight..LOL We had a good laugh

Well I couldn't sleep one night..We had company so I smoked one of their cigs..Oh ya it put me to sleep..But I slowly started smoking again..

So Chantix to the rescue..If I can't sleep I'll just get on the puter & talk to whoever is up..LOL..April 11 was my first day

What I wanted to say is.During first Chemo.I talked to Dr about quitting.
He said you have enough stress right now, Lets tackle that when we get you healthy...The meds had me goofy sometimes..MORE then usually..LOL..Quitting is not easy..If you never smoked you will not understand..Don't be to hard on those you would love to see quit...

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

I quit smoking cold turkey also when cigarettes were 65 cents a pack. Helping someone quit by showing them what can happen never works. No one believes it will happen to them until it does.
Edited to say I am glad you are a survivor. Did you have small cell lung cancer?

Afternoon Tubby - how you doing today? I am thrilled to report 4 weeks today. I don't have the issues a lot of others seem to healthwise. I just loved to smoke - but NO More. Have you had any results from your tests yet? I think of you often and hope the day is good for you. Barb

(Zone 7a)

And on that note...I'm quitting this thread.

Tubbytee...I am diet coke addict...that is what I told my DR. too..I WILL NOT give up my cokes! LOL

Will power is not enough...cigarettes are more addictive than heroin. That is a proven fact. I had trouble with Chantex disrupting my sleep the first time aroun once I went to the 2 a day dose. So the second time around I just did 1 a day for the whole period. It worked and no sleeping issues.

Just keep trying!

Katy, TX(Zone 8b)

On the coke issue - I'm thinking that coke will take you out faster than cigs when you stop to consider that mechanics clean up old motors by soaking them in coke. They come out clean as a whistle, I'm told. I still drink them when there's not time for Scotch.....
