My first day of quitting smoking.

Dallastown, PA(Zone 6a)

So, I had my last cigarette last night around 10pm. Today, I woke up and decided today's the day! So, it's 8:52am and I'm already READY to start kicking my co-workers!!! It might make me feel better :)

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Congratulations!!! And keep going! It will be worth it. ^_^

Oklahoma City, OK

GOOD LUCK TO YOU LLLPA, I QUIT COLD TURKEY 1 YEAR AGO THIS COMING MAY...IT WAS KIND OF NECESSARY SINCE I HAD DEVELOPED PNUEMONIA...AND COULDN'T BREATHE ....LOL
AFTER I GOT BETTER I WAS RELUCTANT TO PICK IT UP AGAIN DUE TO THE PRICE OF CIGS....I'VE MANAGED TO MAKE IT THIS FAR WITHOUT DOING ANY SERIOUS HARM TO ANYONE .LOL.......KAREN

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

You can do it!!! My quit date was March 26 and so far so good. I went cold turkey too. And yes, my motivation was money!!! Now if I could only save all that money!!!!!

Dallastown, PA(Zone 6a)

Yeah, saving money is my BIGGEST REASON for quitting... Altho, lately, it's just been gross... I'm 31 yrs old and can barely breathe some days... I can be such a chain smoker... I'm just sick of it... But, I'm with you Quilter, I wonder if I'll actually be able to save any money ;)...

It took me smoking for 50 years and lots of health problems. But I did it. It really makes me mad at myself to have waited this long. And it really makes mad to realize it was money that motivated me. I know I'll forgive me sometime but not yet.

Oklahoma City, OK

sometimes mind pictures help....if you can picture youself lighting up a dollar bill everytime you light up a cig it might help....Ii was a chain smoker also so I did notice a difference in finances... karen

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

Every time I wanted a cigarette...I would take a deep breath and say TY God!!!! That I could still do that!!! I was dianosed with COPD before I decided to quit. It's been a year. Thank God!!!!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

You go! You CAN do it! The price of tobacco is just ridiculous to me. I don't smoke but DH does, only a half pack a day, but still it adds up.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I feel like I'm "over the hump" now and am no longer thinking that I'd kill for a cigarette. The first week was not easy but it IS behind me now and the nicotine has left the building. Now it's strictly a mind over the desire thing.

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

Best of luck!!!!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Thank you, thank you. I WILL do it this time.....

(jax) Dundalk, MD(Zone 7a)

Please allow a stubborn, hard-headed person to jump in. Help! I really want to stop, and can't! Been smoking since I was 25 yars old, now I am pushing sixty and health demands that i do it! Not mention the cost! Just think how many more plants I can buy!!! I did manage to stop for 4 years, when I had a heart attack. The control was taken from me, since I was in the hospital, and then subsequent by-pass operation. but, of course, stupid me, started again. I need help, please!

Thanks for listening, Jax

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

I understand completely!!! I never thought I would want to do it much less actually succeed. I loved smoking!!! But I evidently love breathing more. I TG everyday that I'm not under the control of nicotine.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

It's so hard when you don't want to stop. I know I didn't. When DH got laid off and money started to get tight I knew my time had come. It's one thing to be a burden on myself but another to be a burden to him.. He just doesn't derserve that. So, no more smoking.

(jax) Dundalk, MD(Zone 7a)

Yes, that is the problem! I know they are no good for me, or anyone nearby! I know I cannot afford to continue to buy them, as I am not working, now. But I enjoy smoking!!!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

When it gets to cigs or food then you'll know your time has come. It didn't get that far for me but I know of others who had to reach that point. This economy is going to either straighten us all out or kill us. It certainly is making us get back to basics....

(jax) Dundalk, MD(Zone 7a)

Amen!

(Zone 7a)

Oh boy, quitting the habit is the hardest thing I ever did. I quit about 10 years ago and I am so glad I did. And I enjoyed it, too. My DH did last year but his co-workers did NOT help. They kept talking about it and leaving cigs around for him to find. They were evil about it and he started up again. He's ready to stop again but hasn't set a date yet.

Good luck to those who have quit and will quit soon. Keep people around you that will help and find a new/better habit instead, if you have to.

(jax) Dundalk, MD(Zone 7a)

habit, like buying more plants? lol

(Zone 7a)

Exactly! LOL

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Day 4 the Chantix helps..I still think about it..But don't fill like "I could kill for a cig"...
I know how you fill Jax.Chantix is a little pricey..In the long run it is worth every penny..Good Luck Ya All

Tubby

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Tubby, the Chantix made me so sick---I just couldn't take that. My doctor had me cutting the pills in half and I still got so nauseus.. So I finally said it's now or never. I stopped cold turkey and now have a love affair going with Tootsie Pops!!!! I sit here and look at the boxes of Chantix and get so angry knowing how much money I spent on them. But they are great for those who can tolerate them. A dear friend of mine made it using them. I wish you all the luck in the world. Barb

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Barb they bothered me at first..I thought but it was the potassium tablet..not nauseus ..Just a tummy ache..The Tootsie Roll habit is better for you..LOL

Figured I better get it done before I go for transplant..They get real fussy about going out for a smoke..LOL

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

You'll do fine Tubbby as long as they aren't transplanting your wonderful sense of humor...We just can't do withou that!!!! When are you having this done?

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Don't know for sure.Meet with transplant Dr. on the 21st..hopefully soon..

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

My prayers will be with you for gettin' done what needs gettin' done. Please keep us posted okay? you KNOW how much we all care.

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

ok, so unfortunately, i didn't make it. it got to a point around 11:00am and i was becoming totally out of it. i was reading emails 3 and 4 times and couldn't understand anything i was looking at. my co-workers were starting to yell at me for being so mean LOL. i finally gave in! i'm gonna try again, tomorrow (because i have the day off, giving me a 3 day weekend). i found this website for some tips...

LLLPA, Hang in there, I quit 10 years ago,I was smoking 31/2 packs a day & quit
cold turkey. I was also dipping 1/2 can of Skool a day. So hang in there, Baby!

Passifly

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

That's OK!!!! But don't smoke the next one!!! Every one that you don't smoke is getting you closer to being totally smoke free!!! Don't put so much pressure on yourself!!! You didn't start smoking as much as you do now. You built up too it and maybe stopping will be just as gradual.

Dallastown, PA(Zone 6a)

thanks, passifly... thanks, jeri... i guess i'll just keep tryin until it actually happens!

(Zone 7a)

Sets backs are just that...set backs. Keep it up! We're here for you.

Four Worms and a Lesson to be learned!

A minister decided that a visual
Demonstration would add emphasis
To his Sunday sermon.

Four worms were placed into
Four separate jars.

The first worm was put into a container
Of alcohol.

The second worm was put into a container
Of cigarette smoke.

The third worm was put into a container of
Chocolate syrup.

The fourth worm was put into a container of
Good clean soil.

At the conclusion of the sermon, the
Minister reported the following results:

The first worm in alcohol - Dead.

The second worm in cigarette smoke - Dead

The Third worm in chocolate syrup - Dead

Fourth worm in good clean soil -Alive.

So the Minister asked the congregation
What did you learn from this demonstration?

Maxine was sitting in the back,
Quickly raised her hand and said,

'As long as you drink, smoke and eat chocolate,
you won't have worms!'

That pretty much ended the service.
