April Flowers III

(Zone 1)

Gail: I bet those winds can really do a number on the plants! We've had some very breezy days the past few weeks and a couple of days with really high winds, gusting in the upper 40's. One day we had gusts in low 50's but somewhere south of us had winds of 64 mph! I had plants blown over on the deck, soil and leaves were everywhere ... just after I had done some major cleaning! Oh well, keeps me busy!

Jan, The twin Leyla's are beautiful!

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Brenda, Wonderful plants... They are just wonderful... Bonnie, yours are great also... Gran, Keep on growing girl... Phoebe, yours are wonderful .... Great growing Jan, what a beautiful first bloom....
I took 8 trays and whacked them down and I am hoping they are not going to go into shock from it.... Here is a picture of one I took before chopping...LOL
Keep growing ladies...
Hugs,
Susan

Hey ya Suzy! How have you been? I just sent you a d-mail to say hi.

Wow! That is one HUMONGOUS leaf!

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

Lin your Chirita Tamiana is just perfect, you have to love those pretty blooms and small growth habit. From seed to bloom in under 6 months is also awesome with them!

Jan, Leyla is a keeper for sure, such a pretty distribution of color on her blooms.

Susan your plants will thank you for the hair cuts! ^_^

Sinningia Blue Dandy is blooming again, love these...

Holy cow! How do you guys keep up with so may plants! BlueDandy is gorgeous! Jan-Ilove your Leylas! Bonnie...75?!!! When does the new greenhouse construction begin?^_^. Gail--that is so frustrating about the wind. It's windy in the spring here too, but not as severe as where you are. Be careful out there.

Bonnie, you are so funny. I spent two days thinking about how I could turn my front porch into a greenhouse because we lost our farm crop this year and I needed to find a way to really sell on ebay...............after two hard days of thinking, I decided that it would take me 5 years at least of serious selling to pay for the cost of turning the porch into a greenhouse (LOL)

First blooms of Smelly Cat.......is she a Bristol one?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Bonnie, Marjorie Bullard (our local club president) started laughing on the phone about my idea! She knows I won't work that hard.

It won't be long..........I got 5 babies by taking the mid rib out. Just so our av forum knows how nice Bonnie really is..........she bought some streps from me and I am so dingy I sent her one that was wrong and she is still speaking to me...........still saving the one you wanted, Bonnie!!! won't let it get away.........

Bonnie: Wow! 75 leaves?!%@! Amazing! I wish I had some space to put some growing trays. I just can't imagine planting 75 leaves at once!

Phoebe: That is a beautiful AV .. name please? Looks like it's shimmering!

Gail: Gorgeous Strep's as usual! Oooh, that B. Paw Print is really nice, looks like velvet! I really, really like Chigusa .. and what is the name of that last one with the two-tone bloom? Pretty!

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

So what is this red/pink one Gail? It is stunning! Smelly Cat is one of my faves--I'm sorry I parted with it. I'm very sorry about your crop :-(

Thank you , Phoebe and Lin...............all I do is whine and complain (LOL)...........need to start my gratitude list with daily pen and paper!!

I am frantically sticking leaves of new streps ...............isn't that Franken Copper Knob a knockout?
I need to take some leaves tomorrow and stick them...........she is actually a coral color with a red red (orange red dark)...........

I have never had Smelly Cat so I am falling in love with her...........yours in the pic is a nice larger one..............

****Bonnie, we do work hard though...........I have 14 containers of strep leaves down right now.........and I am going to keep sticking for a couple of weeks from my own inventory.........

I have to confess that I stuck african violet leaves tonight...........and I am starting to get babies from some Goldleaf sent me..............starting to get verrrrry excited to grow something other than streps and hoyas (LOL)

I can't leave this post without some kind of a picture...........
PS Doesn't your heart go 'pitter patter' when you see the babies coming up through the soil or whatever you use to stick them................

This was supposed to be Spin Art... my most wanted and hoped for strep.
But it didn't bloom with any fantasy! :o(
Will further blooms have fantasy on them, or did I get a dud?

I wonder if the variegation is dependent on cool temps--like violets? Hi Rose^_^

Ok, NOT a flower, but still . . .

This is a picture of Sinningia 'Tinkerbell" . . . I'm fairly certain it was Susan who gave it to me (if not, I'm sorry I forgot who it was!). It had been in this glass for months (absolutely NO signs of growth), and I was at the point where I was going to dig out the tuber - if it was still there - and put it in a baggie w/perlite.

This is what I saw this morning! The perlite at the bottom has algae, so I'll probably have to repot, but now that there's growth, I'm not sure if I should do anything except take a corner of the plastic cover off . . .

Great photos everyone! Syru, what a wonderful surprise!

I started a thread to give away some strep seeds if anybody is interested......

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

Well I meant to post a picture with that note but hit the wrong button!

There are a couple of packets of seeds from this one, Bristol's Petticoats.

This little babe was from a leaf planted in Oct. 2008. Her name is Lucky Lady Bug. I have better luck with violet leaves than with strep leaves. Four of the leaves from Gail have bit the dust (or swamp). They turned to mush. I lost Poochie, Raspberry Splash, Caitland and Streaker.
The rest are still chugging along in their shoebox. No sign of ears yet. I look at them every day. Maybe I should give them some privacy.

Ladybug is so cute Eileen! I don't have a lot of luck with leaves either--just haven't been able to find a spot they really like...

(Zone 1)

Eileen, your AV's look great! I love that one called Lucky Lady Bug ... the dark leaves and dark bloom are really nice. I also love that ruffly bloom on Colorado and Pamela is a "looker" too!

I saw some noid AV's at Home Depot when I went in to get Orchid Bark and almost bought one but ended up getting sidetracked and forgot ... probably a good thing, as I don't have time for more plants.

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Such great pictures everybody!! I have been kind of MIA for a few days, because I have been so busy trimmin',pottin',stickin' and playing in the dirt LOL.Tommie sent me a HUGE trade box and Jim sent me leaves to play with.I'm kind of in Gessie heaven ^_^.This is from Tommie, but doesn't begin to show how much thought went into it.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I can certainly see how much thought went into this 'bonanza' of a box!!!! Have fun and isn't Tommie a nice friend to have!

I tried to take a picture of the whole plant of Different Drummer by Nancy Block........trade from Goldleaf..............so I will show up close how beautiful the blooms are.......
