Here's the 2nd shot

dell, You know the grass always seems greener on the other side of the fence. I do have a wonderful place to view wildlife, but I sit here and look at those western HB's and quail, people's buntings and think the same thing. This forum is the best place I've come across to see a lot of different birds.
I normally log about a dozen species per day.
Oh Wow! Duc those titmouse, goldfinch and even the crow are pretty. Crow chases hawks? Wow, what an aggressive dude! May I ask what type of vine that it perched on? A clematis?
I'm with you, RDT, I love (and covet) seeing some of the birds from other parts of the country. I used to live on the Mississippi River flyway and would spend days just looking out windows during the migration season. In those days of cameras with film, good pictures were few and far between. Our bug supply here is very limited (not a bad thing!) so the bug eating birds are not plentiful.
I am lucky enough to have a small vacation place on the E side of WA as well, by the Columbia Basin Wildlife area and so will soon be including pics from that entirely different habitat.
The Barn Swallows have returned and are doing their aerial acrobatics going after insects. They are so much fun to watch and like to perch on the high wire and chatter non-stop! I hope I can get a closer shot in the future but this is the first of the season. They are starting to build or rebuild their nests in the old barn so there will be lots of fun ahead!
I returned to the brush pile the other day and was surprised to see the young male Harris' Sparrow was still there. I did not see the usual Song or Fox Sparrows but the White-throated are still there. It is very interesting how different birds are at different brush piles on our small farm.
Anyway...here is the Harris' doing his usual hiding in the brush!
Here's a series of my Chicadee. Since its difficult for me to distinguish between the Carolina and Black capped Chicadee, I will just call it the Chicadee but I believe its the Carolina Chicadee because it has a short tail.
Yep, Carolina Chickadee. To see Black-capped Chickadees in MD, you'd need to go to the far west of the state (west of Hancock).

Just had an unusual sighting for me. About 200 migrating Least Terns just flew down the creek and over the horizon. I saw a flock of about 20 a couple of days ago. Funny how these migrating birds follow the exact same path. Sorry. No pics.
I've also been watching a Great Blue Heron and a Great Egret most of the morning through my binocs. Too cold and windy to try to stalk close enough for a pic. The ponds are pretty open and both these birds are wary. They have been around for about a week. I posted a pic of the Great Egret by the falls.
Looks like you have a beautiful place on the lake, Lily.
I too have seen a couple egrets circulating the point beyonder. This weekend when hubby and I worked out in the garden. I hope to be able to catch some pix soon too...
Lily, I have no idea what the name of that vine is. It's a wild flower of some sort that covers some of the native shrubs and trees on vacant property next to our home.
Rose, that Cardinal in the wind is just precious.
Reddirt and Lily, more great photos!!
Glad you all are seeing the herons and egrets. There's more here now too, even though they're normally here year round, we had a shortage of baitfish this year to feed them so they went somewhere else.
Awesome pics everyone!
