Daily Pics. Vol 203

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Hi Everyone...time from a new thread...the previous one is here http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/973118/#new

Since our little female Eastern Bluebird is busy caring for 5 day old babies I thought I would start the new thread with another shot of her.

Here is Papa Blue...he is such a good parent.

This is Junior Blue and is no longer allowed in the area but he still sneaks in occasionally to get his picture taken. The parents always chase him away but he usually manages to get a few worms while he is here.

Here is a male Cardinal...we have lots of them around all vying for the attention of the female.

Here is a male Red-bellied Woodpecker in the Willow tree...I wouldn't have known he was there except for the noise he was making.

Great shots Rose!

Thanks for starting the new thread!

Love these pictures.......What a great thread. Went up to Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge(Northwestern Missouri) to watch birds and the spring waterfowl migration north a few days ago. So much to see and I always hate to leave!!

Nice start, Rose...cute Goldfinch too. Still have quite a few Buntings around, which surprises me. This pic includes an adult and an immature Painted Bunting, and Indigo Buntings in various shades of blue.

Nice start to the new thread everyone. My spring is far behind the beautiful green in the above shots. This afternoon I photographed a pair of Northern Pintail. They had to settle for a melt water pond, for open water. At least the first water fowl are starting to arrive, the smaller birds shouldn't be too far behind. I hope?

Grasmussen those are great pictures. The midwest is loaded with waterfowl and migratory birds now. You can only expect more for sure as our weather warms up and they leave us.

Rose nice to have you back. thanks for the nice start of the new thread. Always some gorgeous shots.
The Pintail are beautiful Gary, and like the Goldeneye ducks on the previous thread.
We went down the Province Friday, and the ducks were gathering on flooded fields along the river. Wished I had the equipment, to take long range shots of the ones I've seen. Here's one picture I took.

Yesterday this pretty Golden Finch stopped by our feeder. There was also a pretty purple finch, but our photo is not focused very well, so I won't post it.

Cuckoo, I've never been to Squaw Creek but someone on the Mo. Listserv went today and saw 17 species of shore birds. Sounds like a wonderful place to visit...maybe I'll make it there sometime.

GP...Love those Buntings and sure hope they show up again this year.

Burn...Sure is nice that you still have those gorgeous Redpolls and Grosbeaks.

Love the Goldfinch, Quail and shorebirds everyone.

The Chipping Sparrows showed up recently and have to compete with the Cowbirds and Grackles.

The Brown-headed Cowbirds have shown up in numbers..until recently there have just been a few.

Nice Goldfinch TBMissy
Thanks Rose. The cowbirds have found my place too. When I arrived this afternoon, I found my yard invaded, by tons of Grackles and brown-headed Cowbirds, Starlings, and a few Red-winged Blackbirds, and lots of Doves, and Redpolls.

Thanks for the new thread and the chance to go "birding" in places I can't possibly visit in this wonderful time of the migration year.
Had a real Easter surprise at my bird feeders today......a pair of mallard ducks! It wouldn't be so unusual except that I am in the foothills of Mt. Rainier and there are no big bodies of water around anywhere. Just a couple of small ponds that we have created. Also a couple of German shorthairs that were on their pillows in the garage and the rains have been pouring down today. (Easter egg hunt indoors!)

The male is trying to look as much like a decoy as he possibly could, Who would put a decoy under a songbird feeder, however? Think again Mr. Mallard.

Mostly Black Ducks, and a pair of Mallards.

last one a Blue Jay....

Norman, OK

I haven't seen a Robin on my place this spring. During the winter I would see hundreds going to roost south of me in the evenings. Nor have I had a Blue Jay on my feeder in the year that I have lived here

I get more grassland birds. Have a nice natural field north of me covered with prairie grasses and forbes. Good pics, Nanny.

Marlton, NJ

I'm surprised they could get in the caged feeder. Nice pics nanny!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

PNW and Red...you both have such awesome places for birding and I love the pics you share here!

Nanny...I didn't know the Cowbirds could get into the caged feeder. I was going to splurge for one but won't now that I see they can enter it. The one I have they can only hang on the bottom and get seed from the tray. I hope they move on...too bad they don't nest!!

Here is a shot of the Downy Woodpecker enjoying the peanut butter on the pinecone.

and a young male White-crowned Sparrow on the same pine cone. You can see he is starting to get his black and white stripes on his head. I am ready for them to move north as they are eating all the meal worms I set out for the Blues. I think they will be here for a few more weeks though!!

Here's a series of my Chicadee. Since its difficult for me to distinguish between the Carolina and Black capped Chicadee, I will just call it the Chicadee but I believe its the Carolina Chicadee because it has a short tail.
