red... was up late last night. Could not fall asleep for the life of me. One of those thinkin nights! Anyway up at 5 am and out in the yard around 7:30 once my daughter got off to school. Planted a few pond plants which I hope survive as the temps are still pretty cold at night. Just had a huge hail storm that pounded the garden for about 5 minutes. Sure hope it did not damage my flowers! I love your thirsty flower picture. What flower is that?
Was able to get these shots before the downpour.

rarejem..The frog songs have been few so far this season. The official mating season for the bull frog I believe is in May. If you have any water near you...you may catch a tune or two.
This tulip must have rolled behind the trellis during planting. It came up behind the rose trellis and is peeking out today!
Rarejem that is a neat story about your property and family. I would love to have a huge place where we could all live. You found a treasure and are just enhancing it. Super!
BeaHive, Beautiful tulips! I like the blackbirds too...the little expressions on their faces are a crackup...she looks bored and he looks surprised as all get out! My frogs started singing to me in full chorus about a week and a half ago. I not only have a large and a small pond, but two winter creeks and a lot of standing water around my yard, so my frog collection is unbelieveable. It gets so loud sometimes that you can't carry on a conversation in a normal voice. I love them while DH spends lots of hours this time of year sticking his head out the door and yelling at them to shut the H@#* up!
Willow, Your reflection picture is worthy of publishing! Love it! Is that really a frog in your frog house, or just a decoy? Very cute either way! Your world is definitely ahead of mine too...at least yesterday I could actually find my bleeding hearts! Pretty Pretty.
Beahive... tulips are great! I really like the first one. Sorry to see that you weren't able to sleep. However, we always like more company here at night! The flower that you asked about is Camellia 'Dr. Burnside'
Willow, I agree with everything that RJ said about your pictures, especially the reflection.
Rj and PNWMG that's such as great story about your property there and how your family preserves it. I so wish that many more were like that!
Sambucus black lace emerging. This one and the 3 above are all good reasons for not getting snow tonight!! I have no way of covering these plants!!!
Wonderful pictures!!! So pretty, especially the reflection and the tulips. rc.....love that last one, wish I had a place to put some of those.
Rj.... great ending to a great story!! So glad you found what you wanted and sounds like you are making it a better place.
So Shelly, how do you feel about sneaking back and grabbing me a few of those Erythronium? I must have a clump like that - it just takes soo long (unless you have lots of $$$$ and I don't).
Hey, Shell - post that in the shady gardens forum. I think you'll get a lot of responses there!!
Redchick, I love the stock pic, especially with the backdrop, but that erythronium clump is incredible--as is your picture of it! Wow!!!
Thanks RJ and Katie. I certainly wish that I had a clump of it like that too!!
Katie, do you have a link to a particular thread in the shade garden forum? I looked around there, didn't really know where was best to go.
How about starting a thread called The Erythroniums Katie Wishes Were Hers? LOL I think you you could put it in any of the current threads, really.
LOL!
lol.... sure thing!
ok.... here you go Katie.... lol..... http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/959311/
Uh oh..... that's not good RJ! Not at all!! I did put everything in a pot up on the porch last night, hopefully that helps. For some reason I think that your gerber will be all right. but those primrose flowers??.....I'll be very curious to see what happens to them. I'm sure that the plant will be ok, but I'm not sure about the pretty stuff :-(
We had a little snow for a few hours last night. Flakes bigger than silver dollars. And a little hail. No damage done.
Another beautiful tulip Bea! No damage done in my world either...unless you count my inspiration for projects on my day off! Have a sunbeam this afternoon, so hopefully that carries through until tomorrow!
30 d and snowing here
PNWMG and RJ.... this is 1/2 of what I call my "tree line". Where the moss is, is where an old logging rd went through there until the 50's, then the drive way ties into it as well. One side of the drive is the first picture of this thread. In the background of this picture where the cotton woods are, is just the sort of thing that you had mentioned. Someone logged off all of the good trees in the 40'/50's and left the scrap trees. You can also see my battle with the Ivy. It used to come up to the moss, in fact if you look at those older trees next to the moss, you can still see where the trunks of the ivy still weave up those trees even though it's dead now. every year I seem to get the ivy knocked back about another foot or two. Someday.......
I thinned out about 95 (literally) trees from the area in view in this picture about 5 years ago. Some very large vine maples, but mostly hemlock, maples, and a few firs. I couldn't hardly walk through there before!!
