One side of the drive is the first picture of this thread. In the background of this picture where the cotton woods are, is just the sort of thing that you had mentioned. Someone logged off all of the good trees in the 40'/50's and left the scrap trees. You can also see my battle with the Ivy. It used to come up to the moss, in fact if you look at those older trees next to the moss, you can still see where the trunks of the ivy still weave up those trees even though it's dead now. every year I seem to get the ivy knocked back about another foot or two. Someday....... I thinned out about 95 (literally) trees from the area in view in this picture about 5 years ago. Some very large vine maples, but mostly hemlock, maples, and a few firs.
