Just wondering if there are any gardeners in the Great Plains area that are here. I did not see a GP link to a geo area and was wondering if there are enough of us in our area to support one, especially the northern great plains, like the Dakotas, MT, WY, NE etc. Any input?
Northern Great Plains Area
Welcome to Dave's Garden skellogg!
I'm up here in the frozen tundra with ya! We are finally getting to the point of thawing out and the snow is starting to slowly disappear.
We don't have a Northern Great Plains forum, but I hang out in the Rocky Mountain Gardening forum occasionally: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/region_rm/all/
There's also an Upper Midwest forum you might like to check out. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/region_umw/all/

Opps, can't forget the Cool Climate Gardening fourm http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/coolclimates/all/
Just because I was curious, I looked to see how many subscribers we had in the Upper Great Plains.
North Dakota - 8
South Dakota - 11
Wyoming - 10
Montana - 24
Nebraska - 42
Minnesota - 114
Iowa - 103
That's a total of 312 subscribers in the Upper Great Plains states. We need to figure out a way to get more folks in our area interested in Dave's Garden! I wonder how we could do that...hmmm...
Right you are Joan! We need to tell everyone! And with our diversity in growing zones and climates, what an education for people! I'll spread the word to the area nurseries that I visit this spring. That is, if spring ever gets here! We jokingly claim that we live in the Arctic here in Sundance. Lucky us, we woke up to 3 inches on new snow today. With only 312 of us, we are definately going to know each other very well! And thanks for the welcome everyone!
Sandi
Yep, we do need to spread the word in this area. We are getting some snow flurries again today too. I'm gonna start looking for spring in about another month. ;)
Sheesh, and I thought I had it bad up here in Canada!!!
I finally gave up on spring coming and started seeds inside yesterday! I always just sow outside, but just didn't want winter anymore, so thought maybe that would help me convince myself spring will come! All my flower beds are still under several feet of snow! Geesh, Alaska and Canada are having nicer weather than we are! How depressing!
hehehe...depressing is in the eyes of the beholder...cheered me up considerably!
I'd build a greenhouse, but I can't afford to heat it 8 months out of the year! :)
Gee, three, you think that's funny, you should have seen me last week. I was out shoveling snow out of my flowerbeds, in my insulated coveralls, so I could plant some spring bulbs! I'm sure it would have been a funny picture if anyone saw that with a camera!
LOL...would have been!
Welcome to DG skellogg ^_^ Interesting stats Joan. Our snow is finally melting. YIPPEE!!!!!
Happy for you Dahlia! We had a relatively warm spell about a month ago, when most of our snow melted, so I actually went out and put grass seed down where I could see ground. Maybe having 3 feet of snow on it since then will actually help our yard when it does melt! I'm sure our neighbor's think I'm nuts! I'm amazed they haven't had the guys in the white coats come and get me!
We are huge rodeo fans, Dahlia. One of these years, we will make it up there for you're big rodeo! Maybe next year? But that is such pretty country, it will take some time, as we will have to do alot of sight seeing!
You're welcome any time skellogg! We never miss the rodeo finals. Be sure to get rodeo tickets a year in advance if you decide to come as it is very popular. Good for you on the early grass seeding. My neighbours think I'm nuts too. Tomorrow I'm seeding wildflowers, peas and I'm hoping to scratch the soil enough to get some spring greens in. Be sure to pop on in to the Rocky Mountain Forum to visit. We are pretty crazy right now due to spring fever but there's lots of good info for our zone and elevation. We're having a roundup (DG get together) in Denver in May and there is another big one in Denver in the fall too.
Thanks dahlianut! What is a roundup? What all is involved? What do we do? Sounds like fun and Denver is only about a 6 hour drive for us. And we have friends there that we should get in touch with on business anyway.....Might have to work that into our plans! DH is going to want to strangle me! He hates traveling, and I'm trying to get him to AZ next week, and to NC in June, both business. Not sure I can convince him CO in May!
Just got my dutch iris planted outside where there was ground showing. I am determined to make spring show up before June!
A roundup is a get together of DG members. They happen all over where members in a certain area get together to swap seeds and plants and visit and have way too much fun. Here is the thread for the Denver Spring get together. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/941499/
No worries if you can't make it though ^_^
