Pictures won't post

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I can't seem to post any photos. I have been trying all day. When it does seem to be finished it goes to the replying to a thread page and it's blank. No post or pictures shows up. I can reply to a post just no pics.

Restated my computer a couple of times. No new browser or anything different.

How large are your files? I've had trouble sometimes with large picture files that it sometimes won't upload them. But if you can reduce the file size that should fix it. I haven't posted any pics today, but I've seen lots of people putting new pics in the forums all day so I don't think it's a general issue with the site.

Thanks Ecrane, I'll try that now...

Thanks that did it, still a bit slow so I'll watch the file size. I am new to photoshop and have been playing around with image size. It never dawned on me that I made some to large!!

Luvsgrtdanes, I use Photoshop Elements, but maybe Photoshop has a similar feature (I know it's got tons more than Elements, that's for sure!!!). When you're ready to save your picture for posting on DG or sending to someone via e-mail, just to look at on their computer screen (saving to print out is a whole separate issue), see if you've got a command under the "File" menu that says "Save for Web" (not "save as"). IF you do, then it's really easy. Choose that, and it will compress your file size without sacrificing quality - you can control how much, and you'll see the ultimate file size on the preview screen. The resolution automatically changes to 72 dpi, which is about all you need for screen viewing. You can easily keep the total file size to under 300 k with this feature.

Try to keep your pics for Dave's less than 800 pixels wide (for landscape orientation), and maybe 700 high (for portrait orientation) and they'll upload and display just fine. The site compresses larger files for you, but I figure why make them do that work if we can do it ourselves? ;-)

Hope this helps..........Barb

Hi Luv's, If that doesn't help, Do you have the Microsoft Photo Resizer? I had it when I owned a PC and loved it! Very simple to use also.

Thanks Barb...I do have that feature. I'll try it. I knew Dave's automatically re-sized, that was what through me when they weren't loading.

Hi Pelle, I'll check that out too, thanks!

It does automatically downsize, but the trouble is with some of the newer digital cameras the files are so huge that things get hung up trying to upload--the automatic downsizing really only helps once the pic's already loaded on the site and someone else is trying to view it.
