Dutch Bantam hatch

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

And finally, number 10, who refuses to be pigeon-holed, I mean chicken-holed....

The color defies any of the above descriptions. It is sort of a mix. It's just above the bottom right corner one in the group picture above. It has very faint stripes on the back, but not like the others.

Again, an off-the-chart cuteness value and if you look closely, I do believe this chick has "cat eyes."

Very mysterious...

Clarkson, KY

Y'know there's something wrong about the thought that YOU are not hatching.....lolol. You are ALWAYS hatching....

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Monday... gosh.. gimme a chance! LOL

I only have 2 eggs in the hatcher right now. After that, the only thing I will have to hatch is the Ameracaunas I want to start breeding... then I'm closin it up. I'm way over capacity..

Our Dutch Bantam Pearl started laying!! She has 2 roos so they just quite possibly could be fertile.. AAAAAAHHH HA HA HA I made a funny..

Yipee! I may be eating my words here real soon.. LOL but wait.. Catscan's hens could get jacked way up off the ground sittin on all them Dutch eggs..

Dutch babiez are a blast.. I had one we called Poppie.. cause it did poppin cock fights with your hand if you tried to pick it up.. Now we had to change his name to Klingon.. He will dangle from your hand.. he hates to be picked up! Lil buggar is tiny too.

Claire gets to play with all them babiez.. whaaaaa I wanna play with puff balls! LOL

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Oohhh, oh oh oh,......eBay.....Eglu coop for pick up only in Los Angeles, I'm sooooooo irritated it's not closer to me.

Two more pips. Looks like I'll have a total of 15 DB. Weeeeee!!!

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Krystal???? LOL

Dacula, GA(Zone 7b)

Loving the baby pics. About the egglu, why does CA have all the cool stuff. Of course if you got it for 99 cents, you could almost drive out there to get it.....

Clarkson, KY

We really need to develop our chicken head network here. So that we have a viable route between east and west coasts. No one between Washington and Iowa or Minnesota. California to New Mexico. If we could just develop the mountain time zone a little better then an Eglu Eggspress Route would be a viable option. I think we have the territory east of the Mississippi fairly well covered.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Right, operation Chicken Head Acquisition!

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

They have a reserve on that egglu.. probably want a lot for it.

Really, this is interesting, cause Krystal's new truck is HUGE inside.. LOL She has been to Claire's turf twice and called me from New Mexico too! She's in Salt Lake right now..

Oh how fun would that be to be able to swing something like that.. LOL

Clarkson, KY

We could paint pink flames on the inside, build a coop, AND transport Eglus?! Cooooooollll....

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Bite your tongue grow! LOL LOL She would SOOO do that! LOL She needs NO encouragement. She would keep that egglu inside.. I know her.. LOL

Her lil pickup was upholstered in pink John Deere...

Clarkson, KY

I know a hot pink kinda chick when I see her truck!! Now for an on the road theme song.....hmmm...

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

Wow! Gone one day and you miss soooo much.
Those are some beautiful babies Claire! I love the silver one...I think number 11! Awesome hatch. I like the chipmunk theme as well. Okay I love them all and want to squeez um...
ZZ Crystals rig is huge! What a girl to drive such a piece of equipment! wooohooo! Will she bring her bouncy balls for fun time? hehehe

Sapello, NM(Zone 5b)

Eastbound and down, roll 'em up and truckin'
We gonna do what they say can't be done...

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

We got a long way to go... and a short time to get there..

She loves that song!

She also loves that Johnny Cash song...
I've been everywhere man, I've been everywhere..

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

I like CONVOY... :D little rubber ducky...hehehe

Clarkson, KY

Shoot I was thinking 'Born to be Wild' with chickie doodles mounted and bouncing on the dash, but I think you guys trumped me...

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

She has a HUGE collection of OLD country western songs.. Very old stuff.. back when country music was cool. :)

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

So does my DH. He does not like most of the new stuff. ;)

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

OK, we lost one, which is very sad, but we have 14. Yay. They're cute as buttons!

Clarkson, KY

Oh shoot Claire. Are the rest fluffery and wildly cute?

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Awww.. too bad, but that happens.

Can't wait for pics! Wut Wut babiez.. :)

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

ZZ, also sorry to report one Barnevelder died yesterday, for no obvious reasons. Of course, it was one of the girls, so now I have 4 roos and 1 hen. Urgh...

The DB's were fine this morning. I'll take some pics soon - they should be all nicely fluffered by this evening. The last one is lighter color than most of the others.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

I had a single red pyle Modern Game that hatched looking like the perfect specimen... but whammo.. a week or so later.. gone... I don't loose many, but it seems like out of nowhere, they sleep..
Mother Nature knows better than I do. :)

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

Sorry about the loss. It is so unexpected too. :( So you have a bunch of roo DBs? How is the hord? The almost 100 from earlier hatch? They must be all feathered and fancy by now. :D Cant wait to see the fluffy pics!

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Some of the horde have joined their outdoor colleagues. The speckled sussex and buff orpingtons and red stars were all ready to go out, along with a few welsummers. I lost a few after they went out. It seems like transitions cause them such distress. Then there is the remaining younger/smaller horde still in the basement. The sussex in particular are very curious chickens, always coming running as a group to see what I am doing when I go outside. They must inspect everything I dig up (like shrubs for transplant) and actually stand on the top of the spade blade while I am trying to dig. Very annoying. The orps stand off a bit until I move away, and then they rush over to where I had been. The red stars don't really come over. Funny how they are all so different.

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

Yes it is. Mine are nosey also. They want to inspect your hands for any goodies. hehehe They see you coming and start up with the happy noises. That sounds the alarm for all those who did not see you. Soon enough they are all mobing your feet and tripping you. LOL Yes, transition can be rough, especailly on the smaller weaker ones. Thats why I try to do it in groups. I guess nothing is sure proof though. You had a large group! :/ I am concerned about putting my showgirls and silkies in with the others. They seem so small. LOL And fuzzy! Do you think they will do okay?

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

That was one of the reasons I set up my silkies in the Eglu - gives them their own little coop away from others. They interact though, and nobody seems to pick on them. I rarely have fights of any kind though, even among my roosters. I have a feeling that it's because they have such a large area to free range. We have 8.5 acres and they probably use at least 3 of that, so they all can get away from each other, etc. I think if they were more confined, perhaps there would be more arguments?

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh yeah for sure! Even Catscan doesn't have the problems I have.. They have nice runs, and get to free range sometimes.. but only when I can be out there.. More rules here at the park now.. I can't let them on park property.

When they can get away.. and the Roo knows it.. they don't seem to chase...

At least that's my observation.. Poor Plum got a bad wrap for being aggressive when he just knew he didn't have to run far! LOL Open the gates and he is all alone in a flash..

Clarkson, KY

Do your hoofed babies like the chickens as well as mine do? The whole gang will go out to pasture together...

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

That is what I am trying to figure out. Housing for them. Is your eglu warm for winter? What do you do with them if not. Will they ever roost up with the others? hmmmm...This could get complicated.
That would be cool to see them all running out together like playtime in school. Ding...zoooom!
;)
