Well folks, I have no Gessie photo's to post so I thought I would begin an April OT Thread.
I have a couple of little pots of Oxalis poking their heads out and blooming.
April OT
Love those Sinn's, especially quick check and apollo. Is the first one that you say is mislabeled a Sinningia too? That color is amazing, looks like velvet!
oh sally, i love the herb garden, can't wait to do that also, if it ever gets wram here.lol
bonnie
Great pot gardens Sally--I used to plant those also til we got a new manager who hates flowers...I was banned from gardening here! Can you imagine hating flowers. She isn't very friendly either!
Sounds like a gardening grinch!!
Good Morning.
I love all these pretty pictures! It keeps me thinking ..spring is almost here....spring is almost here LOL.
Shame on that manager,Jan! She must be an unhappy person.
Lynn
Sally-
that pot with the gnome would be a great post for the Tiny gardens forum.
:0)
I just did it, thanks Seedpicker.
i can't believe she ban you from gardening?????I am a mgr, here at my complex & this will be the first year i get to do some thing with the open area we have next to our buildings.i plan on getting everyone here involved,
bonnie
I know Bonnie! Gardening is so rewarding and a great way to make friends. I used to get so many compliments from strangers, and I would even get notes in my door from people who enjoyed my plants and said they made their day better. That's why I was surprised I was told to stop. At on point, I was told I had to remove all my houseplants from the windows--but I dug my heels in on that one, and I finally won.
wow, i can't believe her, the nerve to tell you to take them out of your window????? wonder what her problem is????
bonnie
they cant make you get rid of your plants out of the windows,i would start complaining to her boss at every little thing she does, and maybe threaten lawsuits, that sure can get them off a persons back
you pay to live there, and you lived there, first!
That is unreasonable
It's ok! I won the window battle--that was last year--I just stay out of her way now...At this point in my life, I don't need unpleasant people around, and choose my battles.
Well said Jan !!
One of my photos was chosen for an online travelogue. I think it was chosen as much for the name as for the photo--and they deleted Rob's name--but they "chose" it! I'm posting a pic as a friend clicked on the wrong link in my forwarded email and got lots of pop-ups. I did not have a problem--but don't wanna take a chance. I posted this pic here awhile back. Click on the pick for full screen.

What an honor Jan!
I just watered my AVs. This time I got them thoroughly wet and drained them before I put them back on the shelves. Question is: I notice several had teeny buds which died. Have I been not watering enough? I do tend to do that.
If the leaves were kind of limp I would say underwatering, but usually people tend to overwater. Were there any soft mushy leaves or stems or any grayish looking leaves?
no, just dead buds
Well then it's hard to say unless you have noticed thrips hopping around.Send a picture if you can.
I'm sorry, but I don't see any buds.It does look like you could have a little crown rot starting (from overwatering) or a little fertilizer buildup.Maybe someone with better eyes than mine will have another opinion!
Beautiful Eileen! I had a couple for years, and they sometimes did the same thing. I read somewhere it has to do with how you water and light. I gave mine away last fall, so I very much enjoyed see yours!
Very nice!!!--I got rid of mine too-- you have to quit watering for a couple months for the bloom spike to be tall-- never could remember to stop.
Eileen, that is a lovely Clivia! I have one small one left that hasn't totally croaked, but it's close. I just don't do well by these beauties, can't seem to get conditions right with them at all.
This plant was returned to me last year. This was from seeds I received way back in 2002.
I had six little seedlings that just never grew. I sent them off to Atlanta GA to my SIL. She had green thumbs, fingers, toes, etc. What ever plant she had, it grew beatifully. She passed away two years ago, and my BIL brought four of them back to me. Two of them I left in the pot. The larger one is blooming now. The other two I planted in the ground in the semi-shady front yard. The ones in the pots are doing fine. They do not get any sun at all. The two in the ground are slowly going down hill. No matter what I do, I can't make them happy. They grow a new leaf and then they lose an old one. I've about given up on them. They are just too much trouble.
They like to be mostly dry and cool--don't think the Fla. climate qualifies!
Aha ... so that's it! It's not us Eileen, it's just that Clivia's don't like Hot, Humid, Sunny Florida! Whew ... makes me feel a little better about not being able to keep one alive! ^_^
I just bought an epiphylum guatamalensis on ebay--my first epiphylum. I can't find a pic of the bloom anywhere. Though the attraction is the wierd appearence of the plant, I would like to know what the bloom looks like. Any hints on caring for this plant would also be appreciated. I may be forced to crash another forum here....sigh
