April Blooms

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Here is a picture of Iris Marie. This is how it looked last year, and it still looks the same.

I've got a shepherdii like that...3 leaves, just sitting there for over a year now...

My shepherdii came from Joni (last year) and it knows it
is Spring! It is taking off - as much as a shepherdii does
take off at least.

My cv. Iris Marie is in Jungle Growth soil with added perlite.
I could post it but I think it should be a different thread.
Maybe I will with a question about my cv. Jennifer.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

try putting your Iris Marie in a loser mix...try that. maybe just the repotting and the change is all she wants?

York, PA(Zone 6b)

H. padangensis
Has a slight scent...not sure of what yet...maybe more potent this evening.

Here is H neo ebudica. I got a cutting at the end of February and by the middle of March it had buds. The flash washed the colour out a bit - the corona is a very light pink but looks white in the picture.

Not a great picture but first bloom for me on H. acuta. The fragrance is amazing. I had it in the bedroom last night, then moved it to the study and then back outside ... beautiful fragrance but overpowering in my small house!

Lin, very nice plant.
I hear you, I have mine outside so the smells are not over powering.

(Zone 1)

Some of them smell soooo good! I still consider myself a "newbie" to hoyas and have only experienced the fragrance of lacunosa, australis and now acuta. I just need a much bigger house ... I could have a different scent for each room! ^_^

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

This is cv. Noelle and it bloomed under grow lights inside the house.

Blessings,
Awanda

This was purchased as H. phyllura. I can't find a picture showing flowers to verify it. It opened today. This is one of the few larger leaved ones that didn't freeze on me this past winter.

Both beautiful!! That phyllura is outstanding!! Must be great with those large leaves!

(Zone 1)

Awanda: cv Noelle is so pretty and how cool that it bloomed inside with grow lights! The only one I've had bloom under grow lights is a little cutting of lacunosa that is rooting in a teeny jar of water. It's on the plant stand under the lights with my Gesneriads and blooms occasionally.

Eileen: Wow! phyllura is Amazing! I LOVE the color of that bloom! I've gotta get a hoya that has blooms with color! Well, actually I have a pubicalyx RHP that was a cutting from a DL order last spring ... can't wait to see blooms on it. All of my hoyas (that have actually bloomed) seem to have the paler colored blooms.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Imadigger...can you post a picture of the leaf...at least one?

H. forbesii - first time bloom on a small plant from last year....

Oh, that little forbesii is cute! Don't know that I've seen that one before!

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

Ima, your hoya looks like this one. I don't think H phyllura is in circulation in US, I got my cinnamomifolia as phyllura.

Pretty mindorensis and nice Amaryllis too, is it "Appleblossom"?

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

After seeing the leaves I was going to say the same thing... H. phyllura is NOT in circulation...DL doesn't even carry it for his catalogue. Despite this...many nurseries try to make us believe.....

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

Lin, thanks! it's Dancing Queen.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Carol, here is a picture of peduncle with leaf. This was a cutting I bought from Bob Smolley in 2007. This is the first time it has bloomed. I'm also going to post the front leaf and the back leaf for you to see.

Deykea that handled low 20's this winter!!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Ima...gotta compare the leaves to mine...and I am going out there now....

(Zone 1)

Lovely blooms, Awanda ... I love the looks of cv Jennifer! Is Deykea a Hoya or just a relative? That one sure has huge leaves! I need to go googling, I'm curious as to what the blooms look like on that.

I was sitting out by the pool a little while ago and the sweet fragrance of a lacunosa was filling the air. It's very windy so I had to move it into the porch to be able to take a picture. This is a lacunosa with specks in the foliage, one of those EA plants so I only know it as lacunosa. I think someone on the forum called it speckled leaf lacunosa? I love the lacunosa fragrance.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Awanda...your deykei has HUGE leaves...I don't think mine are that big. I have two climbing up trees...the flowers are shortlasting and very fragrant...like the finlaysonii mob.

Great H. lacunosa Lynn..

The inspector just came to certify my greenhouse and she drooled over a lacunosa bloom so she is now the owner of a lacunosa....

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

Lin, beautiful lacunosa. Good growing.
Awanda, very pretty blooms. I have jennifer & joy. I can't wait to see the flowers in person.
Subcalva in bloom.
