Suggestion for new forum: 'Color in the garden'

How about a new forum on 'Color in the Garden?

We already have a good forum on 'Fragrant Gardening'.

There may sometimes be a tendency, in gardening, to treat color as high-brow and art-inspired, but color is one of the most important things that brings folks into gardening. Most gardiners have preferences, opinions, information and experiences in handling color, in different types of gardens, plants, plant groups, seasons, regions, etc.

For instance: Do you like blue flowers? Why is blue such a popular color for flowers? What types of blue are available, in what plant groups, in what seasons, in what regions? Which are the best blue plants? Viewing a particular plant image, would you say the flower is blue, or purple?

Other possible information and discussion points come to mind. How have you compensated for limited color options? Do you vary colors through the growing season? How? Should there be higher authorities in color choice? For instance, how seriously should we take Gertrude Jekyll's hostility to magenta as a flower color? Why on earth do we chose the colors that we do? It's strange but true that until around 1919, blue was the color of baby girls and pink the color of baby boys. I'm sure
that the members of Dave's would come up with many other informative and entertaining things to discuss about color in the garden. Color, for a gardener, is a motherhood thing.

I believe that the topic of color cuts across a number of existing forums. From following a number, I also believe that color is not getting the attention that it deserves. I suspect that the members of Dave's Garden have a lot to say about color. OK, the Canadians may call it colour, but we're all gardeners.

How about a new forum: 'Color in the Garden'?

I like the idea!

Thanks bloomheaven.
Just seems a topic where we can be serious or not serious, depending how we feel. Think it also brings together several different areas of interest.
On the other hand, if it simply duplicates other forums, we should do something else.
Would like to have color as my middle name.
