Very nice, David. Did you buy it as a kit?

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

Victor...The fixture is a "Goliath Table Top Plant Light" from Park Seed. It's gone up a lot in three years. For what it is now, I would look at T5 fluorescent lights and German Tek Reflectors.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

wish I would have known the T5 lights were better before I bought all T8... going to switch them all out when they take a croak

Nice bhut.

If I didnt know what Bhut meant, I would assume it was where Gilligan was stuck.

Meaning in a straw HUT!

The peppers look nice, but they're lethal! I can't even eat the mild ones anymore. My cabbage sprouts are still too small---tomatoes are growing, though.

Last year I rember Arlene - Pearle = I think that was here nickname saying how Mini Blind Slats can be used to mark plants as a lable. Well I have taken them a step further. I create a rows. Yes you can put the lable and plant the seeds uniformley in a row. I have found that agressive seeds/plants need to have a stop/hault on the rooting system as they are very fast and agressive. Example - squash, cukes, green/yellow beans etc. So I took and divided rows with the slats.

The seed starter mix has been put on the top and watered and they go into their home till they germinate, which is in the house. Then they go to the GH. In the tray is - Butternut Squash, Blue Hubbard Squash, Acorn Squash, Summer Squash and Sugar Pumpkins.

Brilliant idea, Sherrie!! Very cool! I'll bet it will be easier to take each plant out at transplant time. You're so smart!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

you are awesome Sherrie!!! that is a great idea.... good for you!

I started peppers that way without the row markers.. and having a hard time figuring out which is which

will do that next time!!

Cool idea about the slats.

Victor:

We have a lot of stuff started in our setup....the unit I got based on a thread in this forum...shelves with lights and a big plastic bag...stuff is crazy in there!

I have creeping and regular thyme
Mortgage Lifter, Black Crim tomatoes and some golden cherry version our friend is getting us
Lemon Cucumber
Lavender and Lady Lavender (deer replants, I hope)
leeks
Silver Queen corn
bunch of lettuces (which I just realized I don't know how to spell) we're planting this weekend with peas
can't recall what else at the moment, but we're in full swing!

milesf1....lemon cukes are nice. Didn't watch mine closely enough one year and powderly mildew cut the season short.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Sounds nice, Miles.

None of my peppers germinated.

Bummer! I'll be planting my cold veggies out on Sat. That will be beets, cabbages, carrots, lettuce, & broccoli raab. Oh, & bunching onions.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I just got a box full of leek and onions sets in the mail. Hmmm - which neighbor isn't going to be home Saturday so I can plant them? The leftovers, that is.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

lol-Cat

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I am not kidding. The neighbors are old - they don't hear me and even if they did - I run faster. LOL

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

OMG...visual has me teary eyed! lol

I picked the last of our Fla. crops today (broccoli) and then ruthlessly yanked up the plants and set them out for our last horticultural pickup of the season. I also slashed that gorgeous, huge brug, even with flowers still on it. Unlike me you say??? Well, yes it was.....but we have decided to prune things WAY back for the summer in hopes that we'll avoid the jungle we had when we arrived last October. LOL

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

DonnieBrook...better to slash those brugs sometimes. Last fall, hearing of a freeze warning late in the afternoon, I carried my 80 lb brug into the basement. The brug, tall as I am, was in a grow bag sunk into the ground so it was a dead weight lift from under my feet. Just saw the surgeon for the post-op visit today. Hernia repair went well but no lifting for 6 more weeks....

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

OMG DP! What WERE you thinking? (ok that was my mom moment for the day)

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

Dahlianut....I was thinking I had to get the brug inside or it would die and I can lift anything with no problem.

I was half right.

First year growing Brussels Sprouts and I'm learning a few things. They came up under grow lights weak and floppy. For two weeks they didn't do much. Read they can be put out now so I placed the tray ouside for a few days (bringing them in at night) thinking the added light might help.

It didn't.

The stems were weak, there was little foliage and most plants were lying on their side.

8 days ago, I hit the Sprouts with Miracle Grow and Fish Emulsion then placed them under a 4 tube bank of fluorescents with the plants touching, in places, the lights. Results as of tonight:

don't know much about them... but they look nice

Alfred Station, NY(Zone 5b)

Sounds like my broccoli sprouts. Time to get out the fertilizer!

Thomaston, CT

Sounds like my cabbage sprouts! I put them out last week, but it didn't help much---now that it's warm again, out they go---but with Miracle Grow. Sorry about the hernia---my son underwent one about 2 months ago---he was fooling around with bluestone.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Those looks great DP. I start gorging my babys as soon as they have true leaves. A high phosperous fertalizer to start and then a balanced fertalizer after that.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Anyone ever eat the wild onions? (that pop up everywhere!)

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

My neighbor said she tried them, they are A LOT stronger than scallions.

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

dahlianut, robindog....I attempted to grow Brussels Sprouts the same way I grow tomato seedlings....no fertilizer for a while and then just a smidgeon a few weeks before they go outside.

Brassica and Lycopersicum are not the same. They require different things. Who would have thought?

(not me apparently)

^_^

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks Jen. They do have a nice scent.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

David - so sorry to hear about your surgery. Ugh. I started cutting my huge brug and then sorta kept on going until it is now half of what it was. That's ok........I'm sure it will be much bigger when we return. Now the plants around it will get more of the sprinkler water too. It had such a big canopy that it kept the water from the underlings. Those are gorgeous sprouts!!!! Take good care of yourself!! NO LIFTING!!!!! (even those sprouts if you keep feeding them!) LOL

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

When can the Brussels Sprouts be set out? I've read conflicting accounts. Please don't tell me after the last frost (unless that is true...lol).

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

O I didn't mention that I dilute the high phosporous fertalizer by 50% when the seedlings are just getting started so to be sure I don't burn their little roots. There are seedling fertilizers available that are already packaged for the right strength too.

20-20-20 is the standard fertlizer I use. I have never burnt a plant yet. I usually start when they get thier 1st set of true leaves.
