Please share your favorite pics of the day. I went to Sheldon Lake over the weekend and the Yellow-crowned Night Herons were everywhere. Some had already paired off and were nest building. This one was still single but lookin' good!

DAILY PICS VOL. 196
That's a great picture Mrs. Ed! Congrats! I would love to see one of those.
Dellrose, those finches are so cute! My finches disappeared a few weeks ago and then I saw one just a couple of days ago eating mulberries out of my neighbor's tree. I guess they can't be bothered with the feeder when there are mulberries around, or more likely, my food isn't as good as your food!
Wonderful pics Elphaba! Thanks for starting the new thread!
A few comments for things in the old thread:
Duc, The Tree Swallow and Scrub Jay are beautiful!
wb, Nice big Hairy Woodpecker!
Dave, Wonderful shots in and out of the Pear tree!
Dellrose, Lovely shots of Mama and the others!
Elphaba,Nice one of the Robin!
New Thread:
Love all the Goldfinch dellrose!
Congratulations on the new bird Mrs. Ed!!!!
We've had quite the "charm" of hummingbirds this year. We probably have between 80 and 100 on the property. They are heading northbound after a short visit at the Hummer's Inn at Waldport. The females have arrived and it's been an incredible show. Check out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vElWFyKOU4. If anyone else has or knows of Rufous hummer havens like ours, please email us directly.
Because of the decline in Rufous Hummingbirds, we feel it would be beneficial to have these havens set up from the Baja to Alaska so these little jewels could depend on us to get them to their breeding and hunting grounds safely. Maybe a group could start the Spring Migration Trail like they did with building bluebird houses for miles across the country. This was a very successful venture in increasing the bluebird population. Setting up feeding stations that are monitored would also help identify which hummers are coming back year after year. How is it that we doubled our hummer activity since last year? I've read that they come back to the place they were raised but what about all the ones just traveling north? How do they find this small little hummer hub in the midst of so much land to cover?
The above was sent to OBOL (Oregon Birders On Line) list this morning. Check out the hummers on the video! I lived at the coast many years, but never saw anthing like that!
If you'd like to send a message to the folks, please d-mail me for addy.
Trying again......

Nice one Mrs. Ed...you are so lucky to have them visit your yard! Keep your eyes peeled for the female!!
Tiger...I tried your link but it just took me to youtube in general. I would love to see the clip. It is interesting about the Rufous, and would be wonderful if feeding stations could be set up for them. It just tugs at the heart knowing what they go through to get to where they are going. Such precious little jewels!!
Tigerlily that sounds like a wonderful idea for all the different hummers.
Elphaba your pics give me the urge to get out in the swamp. Now if the river will just go down. All my marsh bird access areas are flooded right now. I am chomping at the bit to get into the new blue heron nest site I found but two miles of the road are too wet and a boat can not get there.
Tiger and all… try this link

Pelletory, it's nice to know that you're always there, with your kind words. Mrs. Ed, that video is wonderful. DH and I are getting another feeder, as well as "shining up" last year's feeder. Tigerlily, you're so fortunate to have all of those beauties. Frank, we had to house-hunt the year of the Pearl River flood, so I know what you mean. Elphaba, great shots of the herons and ibis. DH took one look at the pic of the herons and said, "That does it; we're getting you a new camera!" Mrs. Ed, I know how thrilled you were to see the Towhee. I can remember when one first visited our yard. Great shot of the "manic" goldfinches, Dellrose.
LOL wbbirdwoman, glad I could help you score a new camera!
Frank, I went ahead and posted the rest of my photos from Sheldon Lake. If you'd been there, you would have gotten excellent pictures. The birds were just posing for me, but my pictures don't do them justice.

Here's one I didn't post on the other thread of two nest building, preening, busy Yellow-crowned Night Herons.
Thanks everyone on the towhee. Hope he comes back tomorrow. Now that i know what he sounds like I'll be sure to pay attention.
Birdwoman, that was Tigerlily's link, I just helped here with it.
Elphaba you made me laugh on your statement about learning photography!! I feel the same way! Great shots!

For Loves Great Danes: Ouch! Hopefully, you will feel better tomorrow. I've had an "unforgettable" experience with a bad tooth, so I know what you've been through. Thanks, everyone for the great photos.

I'd kinda gotten behind at looking through all the pics, too. Here are a few pics I took during a little jaunt I took back behind my house Sunday afternoon. The weather was just perfect. One of these pics I posted in the ID forum but since Resin was kind enough to ID it for me I will now post it here....It turned out to be a lifer for me...a Swamp Sparrow!
