March Blooms IV

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Buckeye Colossal (9059) 06/25/2001 (P. Hancock) Semidouble-double peach-pink ruffled star/red sparkle edge. Variegated dark green, pink and cream, plain, glossy, serrated/red back. Large

Don't forget, too, that if your bloom above is one of the first blooms, it may just be a single. Give it a few more blooms before you decide it's not a Buckeye Colossal.

Hi All,
I am having problems with my Sinns.. My peachy Propeller is dying and a few others don't look to swift... I am thinking I my be keeping the soil to wet? I don't grow allot of these so I am not sure what I am doing wrong. They are on wicking and are under lights.... I have two tubers that have no life to them so what do I do with them? Also my one that is Texas Zebra is growing this very big tuber and should I take this out of the pot and put into a bigger one? Do I cover the whole tuber?
Also I am sorry for so many questions... I have had about 15 plants aside from my others... I have sprayed them twice and most have been there for two months.... Can I now put these with my others??? I also have about 5 from Kathy's Streps in a plastic tub near these but not to close that have been sprayed but they are only here 2 weeks so I would not put these on my shelfs with my other plants... I am keeping them apart for at least two months... I have checked the soil and re potted them and put marathon and also sprayed with Avid... BUT I am not taking any chances... So I hope I explained this correct as I do not allot of times...
I love seeing all the pictures and you all make me drool....LOL I will try later to get a few pictures of what is blooming here. Thank you for any help.
Hugs
Susan

I just ran across this pic I took in 1997 before we moved to here. I had great east and south windows for my AVs. I had no place for them for awhile; so I am just now starting over with a plant stand. I tried the hanging thing last year. It is just too hard to manage now.

Thanks, Susan. I wish I could help you with your problem, but I know so little about Sinns. as it is!

Lakeview, OR(Zone 7b)

Several of my young AVs I got from Rob's lat month have teeny little buds on them . I have 35 leaves I planted on 02-12. It looks like one may have a new baby coming on [Silver Glade Laces].. Can it be showing in a month?????? I hope, I hope............

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Yes,it can! If it looks like a bud,it is a bud.
Lovely pictures everyone! I hope to have a few myself this week.

I sure don't make myself very clear. [I'm blonde]. One of the leaves looks like it's sprouting a baby.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Susan--I am new at sinns and playing it by ear..I don't have any answers for you. Mine are also wicked, some under lights, some in natural light--all need to get busy and bloom more.
Thanks for the description Nicole. This is a plant that I started from a leaf from Pat Hancock in 2006, that almost died in my chaos of 2008--I restarted it from just a couple of center leaves--I do seem to recall semi-double blooms when it was in it's prime. I'm surprised it made it at all! Nice pics--I really like Fuzzy Kei-Yoki---LOL!

Williston, ND

Hi Turtle
Did you know sinningias will go dormant? when they go dormant, take the tuber shake the soil off of it,and put it in a baggie with some perlite, then put that in a paper sack and store it some where cool, but not cold, maybe a closet, then check it so often ,when they resprout, replant them, when you trim them up for this, leave a growing eye,if you break off
the plant from it and just leave tuber it may devolp a blind eye and never grow again
sinningias also benefit from being repotted every few months,i go 6 but some go 3
mrs bonnie knows more then me
hope this helps

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

No I did not know this Jim and thanks... So I will take the Peachy one and clean her up and put her in some perlite and put her in my bedroom where it is always cold as I turn the heat off in there...Thanks for the info....

I'm catching up on a few days of posts. Glorious pictures. Gail, as usual, your streps are georgous.
Phoebeviolets, Rob's Chilly Willy is so pretty. I have added it to my 'must have' list of violets. There are so many, it's hard to choose just one.
Keep the blooms comming.

Hi Goldleaf-- i tried chirita seeds from GSA--didn't get any germination--but that doesn't mean anything-- they may not have been viable. Your Vertigo is gorgeous-- i may have to try to trade you out of a leaf later on.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

I have a new Sinn blooming and it is white... Is very pretty... It is Mothersday x self... Will get a picture later...
Nice flower Leaf...

Oooh, Chirita Vertigo is Gorgeous! Love the variegation in that foliage! The color of that bloom is really, really nice! All of my Chirita's have the pale lilac color except Aiko which is yellow.

The only Cirita seed I've ever sown is tamiana, once when I remembered to get a seed pod before it opened and dropped seed onto the plant shelf. It germinated and I had a couple of babies I gave away in trades.

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

HGran, I would be more than happy to send you a leaf or two from Vertigo. Occasionaly, I do get seedpods on chiritas and this time I am tempted to try sowing them. I think since this is a hybrid, there would be variance in the seedlings.

The chirita species Tamiana is so cute, Lin, and they do set seed readily. Would you like to try growing some chiritas from leaves?

Please do post your sinningia, turtlechi!

My Chirita Tamiana is easy and always blooms.

Good morning everyone with your pretty pics!

(Zone 1)

Happy St. Paddy's day everyone! Lovely Blooms to begin the day ... well, I began my day about 7:15 this morning but just haven't had a chance to sit down and log on til now. I'm heading back outside to get some more weeding and pruning done before (hopefully!) we get some much needed rain this afternoon!

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Happy St.Patricks Day to all! Syru, your little violets are really cute.

Chirita 'Vertigo' is so pretty! I'm going to give Chiritas another go this year. I've killed every one I've owned! I will try wicking this time, b/c I think I let them go dry too long before. Some of them, like Diane Marie, seem to like humidity.

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

I think all gessies like humidity and thrive in it but episcias most of all. I'd say give the chiritas another try, GrowHappy. Some varieties have pretty leaves. I did find Verigo was happier when I moved it farther away from the lights than I had it. You can tell when the leaves lay nicely and there is no tightness.

(Zone 1)

The only one of my Chirita's under lights is Tamiana. All the others are on the top shelf of the plant stand in an East facing window. I open the blinds early every morning and they get a little morning sun and bright light the entire day.
