Here's a better shot of this corner by the sidewalk except the blue green foliage is not quite standing out right.
What's happening in your spring garden #2
Here are a few pics of my garden...here's an aerial view from my upstairs deck showing my giant Buddleja asiatica (smells like freesias...definitely a must-have shrub if you don't mind something that grows to 12 ft tall in one year and gets blown down anytime there's a windstorm...but the fragrance is so worth it!)
Something that I bought from Annie's labeled as Erysimum concinnum, but the flowers are larger and more yellow than the ones of that species I've grown in the past...not sure if it's just natural variability within the species or if their E. concinnum accidentally crossed with E. franciscanum or E. menziesii which they also sell. Either way it's pretty!
Oh, yeah, Spring is here! Nice pics, Liz and Jules.
Wow, Liz, you must be thrilled! Your garden has really taken off now, hasn't it?
In some spots it's taken off a bit too much! LOL I have a bad habit of planting things too close together because I have too many things that I want to grow! Overall I am very happy with it though
Lovely picks folks. It's so wonderful to be celebrating spring. And haven't we had good weather for it too. We had lunch in the gazebo and have been sitting out on the patio. Covers go back on the furniture for the rain this weekend though.
Oh Beautiful !! - And just what I needed to inspire me to go outside today.... I've voluntereed in Vincent's kindergarten class the past 2 days - adore the kids, but I'm tired. I love love love the side yard and Grevillea levis - is #1 on my list of must gets. Thank you for sharing your gorgeousness.
ima - Polygonatum odoratum looks perfect, I think she likes her new house.
Only place I've ever found Grevillea levis is the UC Santa Cruz plant sales--they've got one coming up in April so if I see it on the plant list I'll let you know. I should have a bunch of seeds coming too once it finishes blooming--I have no idea how to tell if they're ripe or how to start them, but you're welcome to some if you'd like them (but send me a dmail in a couple months to remind me, otherwise I'll forget)
oooh, thank you, I'd love to give it a go.
Ecrane, with your knowledge I always suspected your garden would be beautiful, and it truly is! I love Grevilleas too, they're really hard to find in SD though....Redtootsie, I read somewhere they are very very erratic from seed, sorry to disapoint you with that!
I think that the last time I was at Plant World, they had various grevilleas, I'll have to take a better look next time I'm there, wasn't paying much attention that day, I was after coleonemas and salvias......
Roberta--I actually bought one grevillea (now dead...apparently not hardy here) when I was visiting San Diego a couple years ago. I think it was at Plant World. Whichever nursery it was had a bunch of them--most of the ones they had I already had or knew I could find easily up here so it wasn't worth taking up valuable trunk space but the one I had never seen up here so I bought it. I'm not positive it was Plant World, but I was there on a business trip and didn't have a ton of time, so I think the only nurseries I visited were Plant World, Tropical World, and Kartuz (definitely wasn't at Kartuz). Or if you don't mind taking a road trip up to Ventura there's a great place there www.australianplants.com I get mail order stuff from them but you can go in person too (I think you may need to call in advance though)
