This Louisiana iris is in the bog filter of my pond, so the lack of rainfall hasn't had any effect on it. Still it was my first one of the season and was properly covered with tree pollen. This pic is from a couple of days ago. Its second flower is opening this morning but my pictures of it just looked black, a tribute to its name Full Eclipse.
What's blooming for you?
Spring Flowers without Showers? Got any?
I don't know the difference between a jonquil, a daffodil and a narcissus, but this is one or more of those! I bought three of them after the season last year at Lowes for 50 cents. I was sure they would just rot, but they came back and all three bloomed! They would have looked a lot prettier if I'd been more diligent about weeding the area. Next year! This one is almost spent, but it's the only pic that I've taken that wasn't blurry or overexposed.
I have Eastern Red Columbine, Aquilegia canadensis in bloom now

The plant;
Ooooh that columbine is beautiful!
Stephanie, I'm jealous of your sage! Mine always get buggy. I'm trying a new one now though, a burgundy one, so far so good and it's next to a purple one that's full of bugs already. Neither is blooming.
It finally rained today, not very much though, so I'm hoping for more and chanting "rain, rain come today; go away another day; my plants need the spray."
Ive got ice plant, azaleas, bearded iris and grape hycanith in bloom. My freeshia is up but no blooms yet and my Lady Banksia (not spelled correct I know) rose has buds but no color showning
I just glanced out the window while typing this and discovered chickadees have decided to nest my cowboy boot birdhouse. WHOOO HOOO!!!! Ive had that thing for about 15yrs now and this is the first time anything has used it!!! I bougth it when I lived in Michigan but guess cause it was a cowboy boot the northern birds wouldnt use it.. took a Texas chickadee to appreciate it!...lol....
I have a few grape hyacinth that escaped our previous landscaping project, fringe flowers, and some creeping phlox, but that's it. Never got above 37 here today.
Josephine, what a pretty columbine! My Texas Gold Columbine has lots of buds, but no blooms...YET! I'm excited to see them again!
Thank you, I will try to save seeds for next year.
Lily_love, they are George L. Tabor azaleas. Here's the link: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/65299/.
Blkraven -- congrats on the chickadee nest! I built a nest box for wrens and put it near the hanging plants that they always try to nest in. They have not found it and it's driving me nuts! I hope it doesn't take 15 years.
My Lady Banks is just starting to pop.
OMG! That's so beautiful! Wow! We've had showers too! Whoohoo! Two inches of rain so far. We were 7" behind though.
That picture is just stunning!
It's pretty much spring here now. We've had March freezes before, but they are pretty rare. The last one that I remember was about 6 years ago. Unfortunately though, the winters are too warm for most tulips unless you plant as an annual which seems like a lot of work to me. They're so pretty though.
I'm trying to do an all bulb bed of bulbs that bloom at different times of year. I wanted it to be pink and yellow. I bought a "Hardy Pink Amaryllis" at Lowes. It bloomed at the end of last month and was a very bright red. It was pretty it just doesn't go at all with the other colors in the garden. I wished that I still had the receipt so I could have returned it. Oh well, I'll find somewhere to grow it. Does this look pink to you?
Most so called hardy amaryllis by my observation is the equevalence to the common name St. Joseph Lilies. They are red (like yours, and they're hardy here too in my zone, I've a few of them. They multiply like mad. Only I interplanted them with a bunch of roses, now I can venture back among the roses to dig out those St. Joseph lilies. :((
I have some that I think are St. Joseph Lilies in the front yard. They were there when I moved in. They don't match anything either, but I love them! They are just starting to bloom. They aren't quite as big as this one though but have more flowers per stem.
I have an Apple Blossom Amaryllis back there. This is the first year that it hasn't bloomed, but it got stepped on about 50 times by utility people after Hurricane Ike, so I'm cutting it some slack. I also have crinums, pink and yellow rain lilies, walking irises, and those tiny jonquils. I do need more spring bloomers though because you are so right, they really get you excited about spring.
That's a wonderful red verbena.
After I posted above, I checked on my Appleblossom Amaryllis and it has a bud! I'm so excited, and a neighbor gave me a Louisiana iris that is about to bloom for the first time and it looks like it's going to be yellow! I'm excited about that too.
I forgot the name of this plant. I think maybe it was blue hibiscus, but it's leaf is really more like a geranium and it stays green all winter.
I really need to repot some things, and others give up on and put something else in the pot, or the spot as the case may be.
DH was sweet enough to mow the ditch for us (600' x 20'), but I had all kinds of wildflower seeds planted so not sure if they were up yet. They still may have a chance, and he won't mow now until I can be sure.
Beautiful blooms everyone! Forgot to say earlier!
How fun to grow wildflowers in a ditch!
This is really a winter bloomer, but it's just so pretty that I had to share. Yes, it is planted in the pot and has totally decided to hang over the side. I suppose I should put some seeds or something to fill the bare spots of the pot. Oooh, I have extra basil seeds!
African Daisy
I have many things up and greening, but only the Dianthus is blooming. Just in time for the Hummingbird Moths! :-)
Carla
I just put in my black columbine with my yellas and reds. I only have yella flowers right now. GROW!!!!
Wow, that creeping phlox is really nice and thick.
AustinRealtor, those irises are stunning!
The varieties of creeping phlox sold in this area include 'candy stripe' and the 'blue' they are both great. The blue is in full sun and does great, but the candy stripe in partial shade does even better. The candy stripe right now looks like a huge cloud of white and light purple.
My amaryllis is just now blooming. Unfortunately the slugs ate through the stems of several of the buds before they opened. Amaryllis has to be their favorite food. I hated seeing them decapitated with their little noggin' buds laying there on the ground. The beds still look good, but the heat is about to do the allysum in. I figure the petunias and allysum will go at the same time, so I need to figure out what to put in their place. There is already some blue salvias in there, so they'll take off once the petunias are out and they have a little more room.
Crow
That's so beautiful! You are sure making me wish that I'd planted more winter annuals this year.
