southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

why are you in Oklahoma Patti?

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I flew down to surprise my mother for her 94th b-day. We just got back from a nursery. Redbuds out. But no Cercis Forest Pansy to see. I wasn't planning on trying to get it in my suitcase. They had a nice collection of Japanes maples but instead I bought 3 canna tubers. They had one I had never had seen before called 'Journey's End' for .99 each. Lots of Hellebore growing on the grounds of the Philbrook Museum and I saw many more at the nursery today, but they haven't really caught on yet. Too bad. Patti

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Happy Birthday to Patti's mom. What a surprise!! Glad you are seeing some blooming things.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Too bad that the nursery didn't have more to look at. But, at least they had something to look at. And definitely happy birthday to your mom!!!

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Have fun in OK, Patti!

Popping back to Texas...

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Yeah, Marylyn, it is cold up here. Wish I was down there now.

Karen

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Happy Birthday, Patti's mom!

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes to all of the above! :-D

Hi Marylyn!

Yep - life takes me away from the computer and the last few days I have been installing a wireless router and setting up a home network that involves 3 computers and two printers. And I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. But after many frustrations and just keeping on, I finally did it!!!!!! And I could never do it again.

There are so many comments here that I would like to respond to, but I can't remember them now. Whewie! You all sure do talk! But I realize that you don't need me to keep this thread going - I'm just an excuse for you all to have another place to meet.

Some places that were mentioned that I have been to: Halifax - Nova Scotia, not Maine. St Johns, New Brunswick. Willamette Valley, Oregon - now there's a place that is pronounced quite differently than you'd expect! But beautiful country! They want you to visit and leave.

Candye - Where did you drive across Texas? Just trying to picture what you probably saw.

Someone else said that they were here the year we had those few days of winter - I was just wondering which year?

I loved the Maine speak - and learned some things. Interesting how you drop the "r" and make it an "a", but then you drop the "a" and make it an "r".

bbrookrd - I take it that your mother lives in Tulsa? I lived in Edmond once upon a time. Loved it...

Waving to everybody - and thanks for the warm greetings!

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

CJ.......lol.. Where in the heck did you go to in the Willamette Valley that you were under the impression that we wanted you to leave??? I will admit that there are communities that are quiet and reserved, but like a person who is quiet and reserved, not necessarily you have to have reservations to get in!!! although, There are some towns that I would say are rather snobby, but hopefully you weren't there!! There are a few towns that are sort of creepy too, but I don't think that they're in the Willamette Valley! lol Yep, the Willamette is a Native American word, but if that one is difficult try this one: Champoeg state park. We all know the 'State Park' part, but I don't think that anyone knows how to say 'Champoeg'.

Ohhh... that's great that you were able to set up the wireless router and home network. I'd be pulling my hair out after a few hours of that!!

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

I didn't say that my hair is still intact....quite a few missing, indeed! And don't even think of looking at my fingernails!!

I just meant that they really prefer you don't stay and buy real estate. They don't want you to move there - they want to keep it the way it is. Beautiful.

And now, how do you pronounce Champoeg? I would guess Kam'peg.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Oh..... don't worry, I didn't take it the wrong way. I was just wondering what area gave that impression or was inhospitable? The smaller towns would love to sell off some real estate, but the larger ones... no! But, it's true, we do want it to stay green and not all houses! Portland has grown wayyy too much for me. That's for certain. However, the area that I live in would only benefit from nice newcomers!

Champoeg.... I had to copy this not knowing if I said it right!! ------ You may say “sham-POO-ee.” That’s how most people say it today although you might hear a ranger say “sham-POO-ig”

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee! Welcome back, CJ. Good luck with the computer network. It's fun to be wireless.

Ohmigosh, Victor. My first thought when I read your post, 'it's fun to be wireless', was ....
"Now I'm a REAL boy"

Sorry. Too many kids' movies lately to while away the dark winter hours.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)
