Tom: That's a beautiful hellebore and such a nice shade of pink. I'll have to consider that one.
What's blooming in March
I have to miss the Jamboree; the grandkids are coming for a visit but Beaufort County will have a booth in the Magnolia Room. Jenny (Bordersandjacks) might be there, be sure to stop by and say hello.
BSD and ardisia ... I have 6 kinds of Tulipa clusiana... I got the species T. clusiana from Old House Gardens and the rest from Brent and Becky's bulbs. They are the only kind of tulips I've found that will reliably return and multiply here in the south. The Darwin hybrid tulips do return for 3-4 years but they slowly decline and revert to only single leaves.
Hemophobic ... the best time to get hellebores from PDN is to visit their February open house (or call them and arrange for a visit in early spring when you can pick ouot your own plants). If you are buying one of the tissue-cultured or vegetatively-propagated named cultivars then you know what you'll be getting. But the informally named seedlings are a mixed group. Flower color will vary a lot among the "PDN pink with spots", "PDN white with spots", etc. groups.
Tom: thanks for that update on PDN, but have you visited Gethsemane Gardens in Greensboro? I've been yearning to attend one of their hellebore days for several years now. Also the gardens in Bishop, GA, which are in Feb. Their name escapes me now.
Do like that pink, though. My mother gave me one that's supposed to be red, but it hasn't bloomed yet, so I can't say whether it will be or not. I suspect when it blooms, it may be more of a deep pink than red.

And I have a new blueberry bush in a pot.
I bought it at our local nursery about 2 weeks ago and potted it in this large pot with very thick wall, plus added some moisture crystals and a cloth wick in the bottom for drainage- hopefully that will strike the right moisture balance. .
It is called Jubilee.
I have my fingers crossed, and any advice that anyone has, PLEASE tell me!
It is the most that I have paid for a plant in a long time (though I did have a discount coupon)
Ooo, I love chinodoxia! I didn't know they would do well "down here".
I love the green Hellebores, too.

Deb: If you want some of the hellebore foetidus, let me know. I have tons of seedlings. I'll send you a hunk.
Angie
I didn't know you had bees. Wow, what an endeavor that must be.
Pyro, that Jubilee looks fabulous; where did you find it? I don't think one can have too many blueberry bushes.
I've been wanting "Black Gamecock" for awhile- pretty!
I have columbines galore but none blooming yet. That weeping cherry is lovely.
Hemophobic, The pictured columbines I got in from a co-op a couple weeks back, The original ones that I have -have buds but haven't bloomed yet. Thankyou for the comment on the weeping cherry, I think it's going to do great this year, Thr bees sure did love the blooms!
Iris -- lovely photo of the lavender columbine!!
