Rainfall totals so far March 11th - 14th... cry or cheer?

(Lynn) Paris, TX(Zone 7b)

Still just 36 degrees here, but we've gotten almost 3/4" of rain since midnight.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Finally--its pouring down rain here too!

Kendalia, TX

Good for you Debbie! Finally! Now you can grow lots more bulbs!! (grin)

Well, we got down to 31 last night.. heavy mist was about all most of the time and the rainfall total at my house for the entire time is 3/10ths.. I'll take it. I am so happy every drop collects and drains off my roof. Dirty or not, it is in my rain barrel! .... and every bucket I could find.. I think I have about 60 gallons collected.. my plants are going to love me for a little while.

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

Glad to hear it dmj.. except my brother and sister in law are living on their damaged boat in Galveston and when it rains.. everything inside gets wet. They have no place else to live. The house they rented was lost in Ike. She keeps her clothes in the car.. dry and really no space on the boat for them.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

A lot of people even way up here still have blue tarp roofs from Ike Tammie--this was the hurricane the nation forgot about the damage from...its gotten lost in the economic crash and burn. A lot of people lost their jobs too from Ike and they still aren't back--another thing the MSM forgets to report.

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

1.9 inches at my house in San Marcos, TX and over 1.5 downtown.
My orchard also received another 1/4 inch so it is close to 1 inch total.
I feel guilty for being so happy when I know others are still hoping for rain.

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

Enjoy your happiness.. we could all use every bit of joy we can find... even if it is a bit of rain. I wish I had gotten more but and gleeful for the amounts some of you hve received.. that makes some areas of our state less likely to burn later... I am very happy to think of that!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I have a former college roommate who lost her home in Ike. Her family's found a new home, but she's still devastated from losing her home and possessions. Can't say I blame her one bit.

Here's my rain gauge this morning. I don't think I've seen it this full at one time...ever!

I can finally hear the rain on my skylights! That's significant rain - not too much just enough to soak things. My gardener forgot to fertilize the one side of the lawn between the front walk leading to the house and the driveway so I went out and broadcasted some time release type fertilizer for plants out there. Now we'll see if the other fertilizer was worth putting down. We generally do 3-4 fertilizings per year on the lawn - slow release type so that we don't have a big rush of green and then nothing and so on. Usually it's done at Easter, July 4th, and Labor Day w/another supplimental sometime when it's needed. What we really needed was real water as in "rain" and heat. I always rush the season and so far I've been very fortunate that I haven't lost anything that was valuable or one-of-a-kind. Hope this little cold spell doesn't set anything back but I'm sure it won't. The azaleas (pale lavender) are in full bloom and lorapetulem is doing well. It's amazing that the new growth on that is the same sinful fuschia color as the fringe-y flowers. The roses are starting to bloom and the little ones I got at the grocery store -the pink Tiffany tea roses- are putting out buds so they should be blooming pretty quick. All my marigolds and wax leaf begonias are doing so well and the transplanted BOP is blooming like it was July. It's so nice to see flowers again. All the American gold finches are gone since about the middle of February but the House finches are still with us as well as a swelling of the population of white wing doves. I hear but don't see the blue jays but the pair of Cardinals are at the feeders all the time. Good to get some color back in the yard.

AARrrggggg! Come on rain already! Watching 2 or 3 different radars hasn't helped, I think I'll go wash my car.

So far nothing but over cast and chilly.

I want this burn ban lifted, I have a bunch of brush piles in need of reducing. I don't want to be waiting until Guy Fawkes Night to tidy the yard.

yep...go was yer car...that'll do it every time!

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

Wow Pulltab! That sure is some good looking land. I bet it will look even better after you get some rain.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Just took a close look at the rain gauge and it is exactly on 3 inches. But boy is it ever cold!!! I think it is about 40 degrees but after 81 day before yesterday, well, the contrast is noticeable. We were forecast for 32 but thankfully we missed that bullet.

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

It is finally up to 38.. whee.... a heat wave.. want that 90 back we too had a few days ago. My roses were threatening to bloom!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I think the current temp here is 41 but with the wind, it is still plenty chilly.
We got 2" on Tues. night then during the day Wed. and over night it crept up to 3 3/4" in the gauge. The rain was very badly needed here also. Only a few lighting strikes with the rain, no flooding this round in my area. It sure would be nice to see some sunshine today. :-((

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

.875 on an inch here--currently not raining (but looks like it could start again at anytime). I'll keep track until this front stops producing rain. It's supposed to be 80F here again on Monday. Someone should start a spreadsheet and record this stuff--it will be interesting to add to it as the year progresses. much more accurate than the stuff on the MSM.

It's like an average day in Feb or January here--temp wise. Winds have died down for a while.

I can wait a few days for the sunshine--we need the rain too bad. If it comes with cold temp's, I can handle that too. I hope this rainfall continues on and off at least through early or late Saturday, as "they" say it will.
Debbie

Hill Country, TX(Zone 8a)

We got a welcome 3 inches of rain so far, and looks like we will get more. My Iris have grown about 4 inches today.

San Angelo, TX(Zone 7b)

I wish I knew how much I got. When I looked it up, the best I could tell 1-2 inches. I know at my house I got a very needed slow, steady rain.
It sure has been cold with it:)

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Cold and rainy again this morning. I think I am close to 3" now. My rain barrels or full, I have two set ups connected. A total of five 55gal barrels. Now let's get back to the high 70's again and it will really look like spring. Red buds and dogwoods are beautiful this year.
DD
The down side to this rain is that I got a pick-up load of compost still in the back of the truck. Was going to spread it prior to the rains coming. Rain came sooner than I thought. It is wet and heavy now and must figure out a plan for getting it out of the truck bed and spreading it.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Yep ~ getting it out of the truck quick before it starts growing! LOL

Last night we had only had 1/2 inch but this a.m. it has begun. This will be our "greening" rain. My favorite! The woods will really come alive .

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Raining hard again this morn. We have 3 1/2 inches so far. Only got down to 40° last night. Didn't have to heat the GH after all.

Oh David. What can I say? Yuck......... I'm picking up my compost next week.

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

I had to get the compost knowing it was going to be yucky. We had our Pot-Up day here yesterday, these are the plants for our Master Gardeners plant sale coming up 4/18. Time was running out on us. About 8 of us showed up and got 'er done. One brought a big pot of soup and cornbread. Nice chatting around the fireplace after the cold morning of work.

By the way at 36 this morning and light rain---I shoveled the soupy compost out of the pick up. Hope it will dry soon to use as planned.

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

got down to 34 last night with heavy misting.. still no more measureable accumulation but the plants love it and the ground has soaked it up ... my weatherbug claims .05" didn't even know they measured it that low!

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

1.63 inches here so far; current temp is 45F

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

Glad you finally got something measurable... hope my brother in Galveston did not! ... at least inside the boat!

San Angelo, TX(Zone 7b)

It has started to rain lightly again. I can already see green coming up in the grass:)
It is 37 right now windchill of 30! Cold!

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

San Marcos
1.7 inches downtown
2.2 inches at my house

Staples
1.0 inches at the orchard

The plants are really going to be happy when it warms up.

(Lynn) Paris, TX(Zone 7b)

Weatherbug says only .01 today, and it's 36. Looking at the radar, I think we'll have a lot more rain today.

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

We are at 4.1 inches and still raining steady. Has been nonstop all morning. The temp is 41°. I do believe we could see five inches before all is said and one. Good. The gypsum I worked into the clay soil is geeting watered in real well.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

It's been raining off & on here today, very gentle with some heavy downpours, but no serious weather. Just what the plants and grass (er...weeds) need. We've gotten between 1/4" and 1/2" so far. I'm in southwest Fort Worth and it's heading to the north east, so Irwells, you should be getting plenty!

Beautiful Brazoria C, TX(Zone 9a)

I got 3/8" in the gauge and the radar shows nothing south of 59 and west of 45 in the works for the next few hours. May be we could get more over the weekend....

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

We are supposed to start drying up tomorrow. So I don't know if you'll get more tomorrow or not. I hope so for your sake. Aren't you in the extreme drought zone?

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Not trying to brag where others are still needing but since this started night before last we are over 4 inches. Nice and slow. After a couple of days of sunshine and warm temperatures...have those lawn mowers ready!! Still raining. cold 40 degrees.

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

Ooh, I just realized it's Friday the 13th! Oh, please, don't let that mean that the rain is over and we're going back to drought!

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

We have gotten 1 3/4 inches since this rain began and it is raining very lightly at the moment. Are supposed to get more before this system is through.

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

Nationa Weather Service says San Marcos is pretty much done with a little chance on Sunday. We are currently at zero percent chance for Saturday. I am happy, relieved and ready for some sunshine. I would gladly exchange the sun for another cold day or rain.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Since last night late I emptied the rain gauge it has rained .9 and the news confirmed that amount. It was still raining a bit ago when I looked. All nice and slow but cold! That puts us @ 4.65 for the three days. That is enough for now Lord, can we get back to spring please...!!!
I have neighborhood newsletters to get out this weekend and I don't want to sink up to my knees doing so. A bit of sun sure would help too.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

It was 38º here today. That's just way too cold for my old bones! LOL Good for the seeds that need stratification though.
