Rainfall totals so far March 11th - 14th... cry or cheer?

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

I started this because I doubt I am the only one checking the radar every 30 minutes.
Let us know your good news or sour grapes.

San Marcos
9/100ths as of 2:52pm March 11th
soil penetration 1/4 inch
BIG FAT FROWN so far

(Lynn) Paris, TX(Zone 7b)

1.6 inches so far today, plus whatever we got last night from around 6 to midnight. Lot's more coming, too, after looking at the radar. What worries me is that a lot of the creeks seem to be overflowing, and this isn't a lot of rain for that period of time. I'm hoping the ground isn't so dry that the rain isn't soaking in.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

humid and muggy still here--not a drop yet

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

Who went crazy and planted seeds and plants this week in anticipation? I have spent about 8 hours sowing/planting since Sunday. I figure this is our one big chance to get a foothold. I planted Tepary (super drought) beans in my backyard and orchard to try and break up this soil.

11/100ths at 3:11pm Wednesday

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

1 inch here since last night and we are happy, except for it being cold and miserable.

Kendalia, TX

Ju, I did the same thing--planting in anticipating of rain. Hope my stuff doesn't freeze!
It has been raining off and on all day, starting last night. Yay! Still less than an inch, I'd reckon.
Kendalia

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

1/5th of an inch now.
Let's keep it coming.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

let's get it started--it has cooled down here now that I'm no longer hauling in fruit from our local organic coop, hauling in a new orange tree, and hauling in groceries. would have been nice if it wasn't warm and muggy then.......

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

about 1/5 th here too but I'll take every bit I can get! Happy to have any.. it has been very slow and steady so no run off. My 30 gallon trash can rain barrell is full again.. was about 2/3 full from the bit of rain we got about a week ago. I am lucky and most of my roof drains off to one spot and my collection is there! Used to be a mud pit until I set up to collect the water. Need something larger to collect. Hate to waste a drop. I cry when it gets empty.

Temp is up to 34 from 33 earlier.. BIG change! LOL

An inch and half here. Temp is 47° More rain coming. We need it and am grateful for it. But the cold temps can take a hike.

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

This storm needs to start moving South of IH35 before I have a conniption.
Still at 1/5th inch. The only good thing about the temps is that that there will be no evaporation for a few days.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

We've received a bit more than 2" of rain with more on the way. It was wonderful taking a nap this afternoon with the rain falling outside! If it just weren't so cold!! I'm one happy camper!

Kendalia, TX

Ju, I'm surprised you've only gotten 1/5 inch. SM is not far from Kendalia. About a half inch here so far, and a lot more likely. Gonna turn on a fan, and blow some over your way, after we get an inch!

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

still sunny and 70 here

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

We've had nearly 3.5" since early morning. Now the rain is really coming down with lots of thunder and lightning. The current radar is showing some serious rain still headed our way. This rain is a true blessing, and we are very thankful for it. Our cows and horses are so hungry for green grass, and now it looks like they will have some very soon. It has been a long, long time since the water poured down like this.

The system looks like it will be moving southeast over the next few days, so I hope everyone receives a good rain before it is done.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Just looked at the rain gauge, 1 7/8 inches and pouring down now. I have really gambled.
Have had most of the tropicals outside for the last week. Day before yesterday it was still and hot and I planted a lot of them in-ground. Also worked to death getting seeds out in anticipation of clean water (rain, no chemicals) bringing everything alive. We shall soon see what can actually withstand 38-40 degrees. I have faith all will be ok. Just so thankful to have rain and hope it keeps going south for everyone else.

Wells, TX(Zone 8b)

I got some rain here today but not much..I got my rain barrel gathering system built last week and so when I want rain to fill them of course we dont get any!!.. I did get enough to fill one barrel so thats better than nothing!

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

I feel your pain LouC. I took everything out of my gh and put in my seedlings. I put my brugs up yesterday in the workshop. I have now put the seedlings in the workshop too. Tomorrow I will put the plants back in the GH and heat it. I just can't bring myself to leave them out when I've brought them this far and we are so close to spring. Tyler is calling for the low tomorrow and Fri nights to be 35°. The high tomorrow of 39°. I pray they are way wrong. Weather bug and the weather channel and paper are calling for 40° low. I know the plants could take that, but If they are wrong on the colder side their toast. Better they be inside and heated. Hopefully for the last time.

The Farmers Almanac doesn't call for freezing temps just cold temps and rain. I hope they are right.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

still waiting way down here--lol

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

32 and drizzling still 3/10th inch of rain today.. the grass under the overhang of my patio has stayed dry all day because the drizzle has been so light. My dogs do not want to go out in it. Just getting dark now.. bet it starts to freeze.

Grapevine, TX(Zone 8a)

My rain gauge is showing 3 inches, and the rain is still coming. Hopefully we will get enough to raise the lake levels around here.

Dennis

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, I didn't follow good sense and planted out a lot of the tropicals. Now they are saying "not 40 for the low, but probably 32". The tenderest of the tenders are still in the greenhouse with the heater on. Can only pray that only the leaves get burned and not the roots. As LariAnn said on another thread...sometimes they aren't as tender as we expect.
Now she was definitely not suggesting anyone test it out. Oh well, Ce' la vie. (sp didn't take French). Over 2 inches and still raining so maybe the wetness will help.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

and another dry day on the west side of Houston comes to a close.....
=(

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Awww, Debbie! I think it's heading your way, but very, very slowly.

We're up to at least 3". I think it's tapering off, but there's more behind it. Quack!!

Kerrville, TX

All day drizzle and periodic thunderstorms in the Kerrville area today. We are scheduled for more rains through this coming Friday. I dont know how many inches we recieved so far but it should be substantial. We sure needed it. For those of you who dont remember what a wet garden looks like........Im posting a picture. It is that slick shiny stuff that darkens the color of fences and wood platforms and sometimes even forms little pools on the ground. The little pools dont last long and if you listen close you can hear the ground sluuuurrrrrppppping it up. Here is hoping all of you get to enjoy the sheer pleasure of having a wet garden.:-)

Stephanie, I'm quite sure it will be pouring tomorrow morning. I have to go to work tomorrow and Friday and make some real money--lol. I bought an satsuma orange tree today--as well as the weekly organic co-op, a carton and some gas, and a trip to Kroger's. That'll take up most of what I make tomorrow.....
=)

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

It rained so slowly here... it was several hours before my fence was completely wet.. I could have problaly dodged the drops! ... but it did it all day! Yea!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Jay~your garden's coming along! Is that all the stuff you winter sowed?

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

San Marcos
1/5th inch still.
My wife is watching me be gloomy.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I talked with my dad last night in San Antonio. He said they got about the same as you. He said that wasn't even enough to settle the dirt!

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Rained all night and the temp only got down to 41°, thank God. So my plants were fine and are well watered. I will put them back into the GH today, until Sun. We are supposed to start warming up again. I hope this is the last of really cold weather. Supposed to rain all day and into tomorrow and Sat morn.

(Lynn) Paris, TX(Zone 7b)

Down to 36 here, but I'm letting everything fend for itself. The only stuff I'm worried about is on the back patio, which is pretty protected. 2 1/2" of rain so far.

Katy, TX(Zone 8b)

We got what amounts to a heavy dew but at least it's something. And to think that we are usually moaning that the rain won't stop at this time of year...... I went out and bought a few things to fill in my plantings so they are getting a little rain but I haven't been able to get them in the ground. Funny - HGC had a huge display of Sweet Allissum the other day and it smelled wonderful! Thank goodness there were real gardeners out there who were NOT buying it, knowing that they would just get it in the ground and the heat would sizzle it quickly. Boy, go to a nursery during the week and you see the people who really garden and know what they are doing and what they want as opposed to those who don't know diddly and you want to rush up to them and say "Don't buy that at this time of year" or "That's not going to grow here, you know" but you keep your mouth shut and hope they learn without a lot of expense.

Ann

(Lynn) Paris, TX(Zone 7b)

Like the fuschia hanging baskets I see here sometimes in April. I still used to buy one for my mother-in-law when she was alive. She was from Seattle, and really missed them. Of course by late June they were gone.

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

Celebrate good times, Come ON!!!!
We received 1.5 inches total since Wednesday morning in San Marcos. My fruit orchard received .75 inches outside Staples, TX. I am so happy and relieved. I hope I can get some more rain over the next few days so my pond fills up a little at the orchard since that is what I use to irrigate my trees. My wife said I looked so frustrated last night kinda like I was constipated and I finally found relief this morning. That is a horrible analogy. I am wishing so hard now for the areas that havent received any rain. You have all my mental power pushing for you.

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

Rowlett (suburb in east Dallas) got rained on all day and all night -- I got 2-1/2" during the day yesterday and 2-1/2" overnight. I'm so happy, I don't even mind how cold it is!! :-)

Carla

Canyon Lake, TX(Zone 8b)

North side Canyon Lake - exactly 2.5" since midnight.

It's amazing! The plants in the garden seem to have doubled in size since yesterday.

WaaaHooo! Our county commissioners lifted the burn ban at about 11:15am today.

I am outta here. Going to burn brush piles in the garden.

Jerry

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

just enough to wet the streets here--a trace. but they say tomorrow is when we are supposed to get most of ours, they say lots of things though so I'm not holding my breath

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

1.6 inches since the power outage yesterday. And we had a slight freeze last night.

Canyon Lake, TX(Zone 9b)

We got about 3 inches here in Canyon Lake, east of hwy306. Thanks Jerry for telling us the burn band has been lifted, that means all of us can get rid of stuff we need to burn. Thanks, Krispi
