These are my ducks. I do know which are the mallards but I am unsure what the others are. I also know the one runner.

Duck ID needed please.
Can you tell me about how old they are?
These are not absolutes, just possibles ;o) They may all be cross breeds.
#1 could be a Black and White Ancona...has a curled tail feather so it looks like a male.
#2 could be a Saxony, Buff, Golden Cascade or Khaki Campbell male...it is a male.
#3 could be a Blue Swedish...I cannot tell for certain if they are males.
#4 could be a Buff duck...female.
Here is a site that may help you...however, there are more breeds of domestics then the ones here.
http://feathersite.com/Poultry/Ducks/BRKDucks.html
they should be about 7 or 8 months old. They are suppose to be pure. they came from a hatchery. The one they came from I am not sure. I know which ones are the females and the males. It is kinda hard to tell in the pictures tho.
Sorry forgot to say Thanks :)

The mallards may be rouens. Rouens do not fly and get larger and heavier than mallards.
these mallards have flown have not really seen them fly in a few weeks tho.
Thanks
Then they may be true mallards. I can only tell the diffrence when they are young when they are side by side. My oldest rouen is two and she couldn't lift her fat butt off the ground with a crane, but her son is the result of a fast talking wild mallard and he can at least fly across the yard at a year old. Not quite over the fence though.
The top one does look like my aconna!
Not sure if the pic shows it but the ones you are saying Aconna, they are white with a pale grey. Like they have been wallering in wood ash. The Storey's book I have show them with Black spots.
Thanks
I will try again in the morning to get some better single pictures of them.
Thanks
Your ducks sure are pretty. I traded 8 wild mallards for my duck. The mallards I had were from a clutch I rescued in my back yard. We have a creek in the yard and it is full of wild mallards. Every Spring they nest in my yard. Had 10 nests last year. The hen had made her nest behind a pipe in our yard that is about 18" deep. Our water cut off valve is at the bottom. When the ducklings hatched, all 11 fell in the pipe and couldn't get out. I found them a couple of days later and the hen was with a drake and wouldn't come to them. I couldn't turn them loose for fear she wouldn't take them and they would die. So I raised them. I kept them in a big trunk in my house until they were big enought to get out of it. Then I moved them to a stall in the barn. From there they moved into the chicken yard. I didn't want to put them back in the creek because it is already overrun with drakes and the clutch was 2 hens and 6 drakes. My farrier wanted some ducks for his pond so I traded all of the mallards for the one I have. We call her Miss Quackers.
This pic is right after I brought them in.
Thats a mess o' ducks Duckmother did a good job identifying. I think she is on. Especially with the Campbells and the Swedish.

They are so pretty. I wish I could tell you what they were but sadly I am just a gawker. I do love to look at them. I do like the mottled grey one and I love the one with the brown head. Its beautiful and looks so soft.
I love the babies Cajun!!!!
Would really love to get my hands on an Anocona (sp?) drake, but where could I just get one at. I wish Ideal sold them.
Even gawky they are CUTE!!!!! Look at the chicken...he is looking a bit curious.
That was Spike. A friend had him and he couldn't stand up. He was in with lots of others and he would have got trampled and died so we took him and gave him some TLC. He was able to walk in a few weeks and he grew into a big healthy roo. He was free ranging at the barn and something killed him. I think it was a roaming cat. Knock thinks he went off to find him some hens. I don't see the need to tell him any different.
Thank you, beadmom, for the kind words.
Luvs, I may be wrong about the Ancona...LOL...I may be wrong about all of them ;o)) All other breeds (that I know of) that are white with some darker feathers have a colored neck and/or head. This is the reason that I asked about age, I thought maybe all of the coloring was not showing. They are all adorable!
My aconna had the blue grey markings, but most of her offspring were black and white. he bred with a pekin, so the color didn't come from him.
Ohhhh...look what I found!

Probably not as good as feathersite 'cause they are the BEST..but..who knows.
Ginger
Great site beadmom! Thanks.
DU is the best place to find (North and South America) wild or non-domestic ducks. Feathersite is best for identifying domestics. Now, we have both of them in the "best" category. ;o)
I think a Wood Duck is the prettiest duck there is. We had a pet wood duck when we lived down the bayou.
I am getting one NAMED after me..... ha!
Ginger
You are getting a wood duck named after you?
How cool is that. Did they rescue her or raise her from an egg?
I think they are hatching.....
Ginger
Your namesake is hatching now?
I rehab baby ducks (usually Wood ducks) and we had Eliza from shortly after birth until she could fly. We live on the creek that runs into a lake about 6 houses away and Eliza lives at the lake now. She has a regular boyfriend but there are 3 others waiting line :o) We hope that she will nest close by. However, the ducklings that I get will not be hers.
Many Wood ducks nest far away from water and then when Mom walks her new ducklings to the lake she may take them across a busy street. Sometimes Moms are hit by cars (other things can happen, too, like a cat will get Mom) or the ducklings get separated and then someone will grab as many babies as possible and start looking for someone to care for them...that's me.
When and if I get any, I will name one Ginger.
and that's the scoop on my namesake!!!!
Thanks duckmom!!!
I love wood ducks. They are beautiful. We have a creek that runs through our back yard and there are about 40 ducks on the creek. Lots of them nest in our back yard. We had 10 nests last year. They are mallards. There was 1 hen that let her ducklings fall into a pipe after they hatched. We couldn't reunite them 2 days later because of all the drakes on the creek and the fact that the hen wouldn't come back to them. We couldn't turn them loose for fear she wouldn't take care of them and we wouldn't be able to catch them again. We raised 9 out of 11 which is not bad for wild babies that young. We wouldn't put them back int the creek because 6 of them were drakes and there are already too many drakes in the creek. So They went to a guy who wanted them for his pond. They are doing well there. There are a few wood ducks on a creek near here but none on our creek.
You're Welcome!
Great story, Cajun. Ducks are wonderful and some breeds make excellent watch dogs...ummm...I mean ducks ;o)) Also, watching ducks can make the stress melt away! I think they should prescribed for people with high blood pressure and ulcers. LOL
Wood ducks are truly beautiful, but I think the Mandarin duck is equally as lovely.
Me too! There have been more and more sitings of them in the wild. Before too long, they may a be regular in the US. However, the boys cannot tell the difference between a Woodie female and a Mandy female, so it he mates with the wrong one, the eggs will be sterile.
Is the Mandarin not a true duck?
