Every Spring they nest in my yard. Had 10 nests last year. The hen had made her nest behind a pipe in our yard that is about 18" deep. Our water cut off valve is at the bottom. When the ducklings hatched, all 11 fell in the pipe and couldn't get out. I found them a couple of days later and the hen was with a drake and wouldn't come to them. I couldn't turn them loose for fear she wouldn't take them and they would die. So I raised them. I kept them in a big trunk in my house until they were big enought to get out of it. Then I moved them to a stall in the barn. From there they moved into the chicken yard. I didn't want to put them back in the creek because it is already overrun with drakes and the clutch was 2 hens and 6 drakes. My farrier wanted some ducks for his pond so I traded all of the mallards for the one I have. We call her Miss Quackers.
