hi! i have a muli port feeder, but my male bird will NOT let anyone other then his wife drink from it!
He actually attacks the other hummingbirds as soon as they land on it. if this is their normal behavior i wonder why they even make muli port feeders for them. any thoughts?
btw...i havent seen my hummingbirds yet.
2009 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds
Ruth, it is normal. One year I even had a female that was a real bully!
I place several feeders around the yard so they can drink when they are run away from the other feeder.
I hope to see my first hummer today. I am off work and have lots to do outside! Many classified orders to dig. So maybe my chances will be good.

Ruth sometimes on the southern migration more will drink together. Also the multi ports make the hummers feel like they are going from blossom to blossom. I have watched a hummer try every port.
Putting up the feeders today, should see ruby throated any time, and I love using the tripod and camera, sooo this is a warning I take pictures too !!!
Looking forward to it huggergirl!
RDR - I love that feeder. Did you happen to get it anytime recently and anyplace that might be countrywide? I'd love to have one.. Oh and those Indian Paintbrushes....Oh boy would I love some seed. I love that plant.
On watch for the Rubies to return here....

Not sure if it is the exact same one, but I saw one very similar at Tractor Supply when I was there on Wednesday. They had a lot of pretty HB feeders.
I bought that feeder at Lowe's last year. I haven't looked this spring to see if they still stock it.
Hummers have been busy today and so have I. Too busy to take pics. And probably tomorrow. My SIL is retiring and moving from Phoenix to OKC. My son and I are going up in the morning to paint her garage floor with QuickCrete expoxy before she move in. This is the fourth garage in a year that I have got roped into doing. I must be easy.
Dell - that hat & boots pic is a HOOT!!
Beautiful shot red. What camera do you use?
Almost every shot I've posted here was taken with a relatively inexpensive Nikon P80. It's the top of the line Coolpix. Has an 18X optical zoom and 10 MP. It takes almost as good pics and the more expensive cameras and it is small enough that it is easy to carry along. A lot of wildlife photo ops just happen when you are out doing other things.
Just wish spring would show up here, although we saw 2 single rainbows 1 double all in about 2hrs,maybe thats a sign of hb and spring on its way.
Thanks red. I have an olympus sp-560, 18x but only 8 megapixels. I think the Nikon lenses are better than oly.
I only see hummers now right before dark:thirty. All the honeysuckle is blooming so they are not coming to the feeders much.
Enjoyed the shots red! Your Nikon P80 seems to do great on the photo taken!
Haven't been able to take many photos lately, Been busy working in the yard ( Though i did get a few today, Not of the hummingbirds though)
beclu727, I have an Olympus too -(C-750 and a Nikon) I like using both, But, Use each one for different instances.
f_chisolm, I'm seeing them sparcley now too because there is a lot blooming that they are going to.
I have two feeders up and a pair frequents the one in the front yard. I've only seen a male one time on the back feeder. This is next to a 20-acre field of native prairie. It's covered with Indian paintbrush right now and I can see them working the native plants. Much more activity up there than on my feeders.
I had 2 males and a female yesterday at the feeders. We don't have too much in bloom yet so I think the Hummers in our area are seeking the feeders...I will post a window shot of one of the males and then will be starting a new thread.
Here is a link to the new thread http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/978546/ , hope to see you there.
