Starting vol. 190 slightly early, as otherwise #189 ( http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/959651/ ) would be too long by tomorrow morning!
Here's a Mediterranean Gull to start the new thread off

Daily Pics Vol 190
Thanks for starting the new thread Resin. Nice pic!
Aww, she's beautiful Debin!
Nice ones burn!
Neat start Resin, thanks! Looks like your Gull has a ring on its bill, makes me wonder why. We have gulls with rings here too. I wonder if it helps them catch dinner or something.
Very nice Pileated Debin, really red head on that one!
Burn, super shot of the Redpolls in the snow, lovely woodpeckers too!
Thanks Angele
wbbirdwoman the feeder was bought at the big box store.... and modified ... was supposed to be a cedar hanging bird seed feeder... took the front panel out and made it into a pole mount by the way of some plumbing fixtures ... now we had to screw the top on because the squirrels were knocking it off
it was nice to keep the back panel in... we can pile the peanuts pretty high and they don't fall out
wow.... very nice

Bill markings like this (and the red spot on e.g. a Herring Gull's bill) are indicator marks to tell the nestlings where to peck to get their food supply ;-)

nice pics burn,Gras and GP!
Good morning, everyone! It's a gorgeous day here in Northern Virginia, and it looks as though we may have to turn on the air conditioner. Just a week ago, we had snow. Variety is the spice of life, they say. Anyway, One Wish, back to the feeder: the one that I was referring to is the circular one. It looks like it's made of metal and contains peanuts. The Nuthatch was really going after its contents. Those are beautiful photos, Gras...some of which were posted on another thread. I see that you're from Alaska, so you must be in Oahu on vacation. I would imagine that the Islands have changed lots since DH and I spent R and R there almost forty years ago. A blessed day is wished for all of you.
Burn, those Redpolls are very pretty birds. I've never seen one as they're far from "Common" here. :)
G'pom: Good catch of the crow!
Deb
Resin, I knew there was a reason! Thanks!!! LOL, at myself I was imagining that they dangled their bill in the water as a fishing lure (I was laughing as I imagined that)
I'm enjoying the photos everyone is posting! Keep them coming!
This is a Starling !
A Golden-breasted Starling, Cosmopsarus regius.
It is an African bird, photographed in the Honolulu Zoo. I only take pictures of birds in captivity when they are truly something special. The Honolulu Zoo's African bird exhibit allows the people inside a vary large cage along with the birds. The entrance to the walk in cage has two sets of doors, with a room in-between, then a curtain of plastic link chains, to prevent the birds from escaping. There were several pairs of these Goldies in the large cage, but they were difficult to photograph, because they kept hiding in the trees.

OH My such fantastic pictures on this thread. I can't possibly comment on them all!! The colors are magnificent!
The hummer picture does stand out with the snow..how strange is that occurrence?
Nice Peafowl closeup, and that Starling , gorgeous colors!!!!
Dirt_in_ozone, that hummer pic is really nice, agree with the others on how it stands out with that snow.
GP you'll probably miss those cute little Buntings when they leave, but Rose will take good care of them for you, I'm sure.
Couldn't get a good focus on both of them, Camera had a mind of it's own, with these Chickadees.
Enjoying everyone's beautiful pics!!
love them all!
