Come on Sewin! We want pics! :)
New baby Jacob ewe lambs
She's BALD!!! OMG. You really can't tell from her posts...
LOL Jay
Is that a wig you are wearing? LOL
Pretty chicks. I'd get the names confused for sure.
OMG, nobody ever told me we have a supermodel in our midst! Look at you!! You have perfect hair, perfect blue eyes, and perfect smile dimples. That's it, I can't talk to you any more. I'm not worthy!
Great chickens, btw!
Claire, you crack me up. Supermodel I am NOT! LOL But thanks for making my day!!! I still want goats!!! :(
Claire, did you just hit with that wind and cold front? It is so windy here right now. The temps are supose to dip down about 30 degrees in a short period of time. My weather tends to hit you first. Just wondering. It figures, because I just put my oldest chickens who now are fully feathered outside. They have hay and heat lamp. I believe they will be comfy still. I will check on them though. I can see them from the house through their big window. hehehe They have a light on in their house so I can see them.
Yes, it is entirely brutal here today. This morning it was like 10 degrees and the wind was enough to take the skin off your face if you stood outside too long. I was going to put out some chicks last week but then I saw the forecast and decided against it. I'm glad. It would be too cold here. Right now it's 22. Tomorrow is supposed to be back up to 42 for a high though, so at least it is a short-lived freezing spell.
I may have to bring them back in for a day or two then. Hmmmm. They are in an enclosed unit with a heat lamp and a pile of hay to play in. what do you think? Its supose to be about 29 tonight and tomorrow. :/
sewincircles's a hottie! Who knew? Cool. Luvly polkadot curlicious new babies Dr. Doolittle. I must say though that the pic of Luna flying across the barn is my fav ^_^ Um does Luna know that goats aren't supposed to fly?
They might be OK, as long as there are a bunch of them. They can huddle. Do you have a thermometer in the nit? Stick one in there. See how warm it is in the next few hours. Then make a decision. If it's staying in the 30s then you are probably OK.
Dahlianut - tell me about it! She puts the rest of us to shame! (well me, anyways). Luna is practicing for the circus. She wants to do trapeeze. :-)
I'm sooooo excited! We got a livestock trailer tonight! I am going to do a blog post on it soon.
A livestock trailer??? awwwww... now they wont be allowed in the car or truck??? hehehe
You guys crack me up.
So....what new creatures will come to your house now? That sure is a BIG beautiful trailer. hmmmmmmm...
We are getting 2 new llamas and a lamb this weekend. That's all. This will be very helpful when it comes to transporting any sick animals to the Iowa State University clinic, which is where we have to go for a vet because no large animal vets in our area are taking new clients.
HEY!! SHOUT OUT TO ANY LARGE ANIMAL VETS LOOKING FOR CLIENTS! MOVE TO CENTRAL IOWA!!
How far away is the clinic??? That is a good opportunity for some large animal vet!!!
That's not a trailer; that is fantasmic zooilogical carivan!!! Cool!! Re: Luna's flying. I was thinkin there might be a reindeer in Luna's family tree. (Where is Cousin Grownut? She is an expert on family trees.) I am penning my monthly letter to Santa this weekend so I will ask him about flying goats. He will be verrrrrrry interested I'm sure.
O dear NO, NADA NONE large animal vets? I'm sending an email to Guelph U. pronto!
He, Luna, would make a wonderful addition to Santa hord. But Claire would be absolutely lost with out him. So, Santa will have to stick with deer. :/
The clinic is approximately 1 hour drive away.
Yes, please encourage large vets to come here. There are plenty of small animal vets (cats, dogs) but no large animal vets that are taking new clients, in other words, the existing ones are all too busy.
Luna may well have reindeer in her family tree. I should investigate this. Where is cousin Grow anyway?
Careful Dahlia, don't frighten the locals with the use of words like fantasmic.
Oh, furthermore for the vets, land and housing in Iowa is cheap!
Vet medicine is a toughie I learned in the arctic because everyone recognizes the need but no one takes ownership to do something about the lack of it. Done: Just sent an email to Recruitment and Careers Office at Guelph U. If they ask me any questions about Iowa I'm hooped ^_^ Claire should I just point them to the IA State Clinic?
Dahlia, if I got a vet from my alma mater, I'd be thrilled. Thrilled!
Yes, IA state could probably give them pointers, but really, we need vets to set up their own practices.

EXALENTA Dr. Doolittle I will send on those sites.
I believe a family tree starts with investigating the parents. Wasn't there a Siberian reindeer that came in an extremely small version. Encounter with a moountain goat would explain a few things. Though personally, not having much of a science backround, I'd suspect genetic mutation over the last week, er, I mean century, er, while...
Being an uncharacteristically dutiful wife and mother. No time- be back later
Hi and Bye Cousin Nut. Ahhhh Luna being a decendent of a Siberian Reindeer would explain her flying around the barn. WELL DONE Cousin.
Who would have known? :D
Siberian reindeer: http://www.mybigadventure.com/index.php?action=Pics&name=Favorites/Pictures/5278.JPG&storylink=
I fail to see the resemblance, but I'll take cousin Nut's word for it...
Distant...REALY distant relation????
That one's gnomic cousin...
Oooh, another cousin! Dahlianut, Grownut, and Gnomicnut.
That gave me a non-existent page...
I thought the flying gene was a recessive gene in mammals which is why we don't see alot of flying hippos and such. Or maybe it's like the bees who believe they can fly so they do. Soooooo Luna either has a recessive flying gene from her Siberian Reindeer ancestor (Cousin Gnomicnut) or she believes she can fly so she does.
Yes, I do believe it is that very rare recessive gene that is from deep in her ancestry. I think it only happens in triploids. Catscan will know.
Last time I saw a flying hippo, well....we won't talk about that.
I think (rarely) that Luna is a chimera. The mutation that created dwarf flying Siberian Reindeer is an uncommon one--but in Luna's case there was a somatic mutation affecting her neuromuscular system and effecting an amazing change in her ability to levitate. ( I got both "iffects" in one sentence! Look at me grownut! Look at me!).
That's my storey and I am unanimous in it.
Also, I ate reindeer once. It was delicious. Little, tiny onion-filled reindeer meatballs in a sauce. Yummmmm.
My professional opinion--professional what I'm not sure-- is Luna's wondrous levitation transportation mutation is facilitated by fairy dust and refined spirits.

Jay
I was wondering if it might have anything to do with Catscan's levitating ceramic armadillo, but she makes a very convincing case on the chimera theory. And her ability to "iffect" effectively is stunning.
I'm not sure what this is about her having a "storey" though. Perhaps it's an underground parking garage.
I ate elk once, but not reindeer.
I et kangaroo... tasty. Wanted to taste a wichitty grub, but they were at a different restaurant. I understand they taste like escargot...
