Immature Bald Eagle....I have been seeing (and hearing) a lot of Eagles lately. Just read a story this morning about a locally nesting Bald Eagle that was found dead by the side of a road.

Oh, GP, how awful about the Bald Eagle. If they know it is/was a nesting bird, will the eggs/chicks be taken in for raising or will the other bird assume sole responsibility for their care?

The Rainbow Lorikeets are even bossy with each other and were trying to bully each other out of the bird bath. The impact they have on small honeyeaters and less aggressive parrots for food sources and nesting sites is the big problem. The racket they make is deafening. It's as loud as a home security system "screamer". So, I still want the Painted Buntings and you're welcome to as many Rainbow Lorikeets as you want in exchange.

This morning I was down at the local jetty to see if I could see any Osprey (I didn't). There are several poles with lights attached along the jetty. A Cormorant was quite happy sitting there enjoying the first rays of sunshine when a Darter decided it wanted to sit on that particular light. No, it didn't want to sit on any of the other dozen or so vacant lights in the immediate area, it wanted THAT light.

And it seems that what a Darter wants, a Darter gets.

It remained there for about ten seconds, then left for the far reaches of the bay.

Thanks everyone for your comments about the Lorikeets. The lighting was just right.

Enjoying all the great pics!

Yesterday my first pair of ducks turned up, that I saw anyway. This is the dominant male with a sweet white male, I had a white one 3 years ago with a regular male. Today the male was with a female.

A friend of mine that lives in the area the Eagle was found, thinks it was not currently nesting. Maybe we will know more later. I know the body of the Eagle was sent off to an Indian tribe.....they use the feathers and body parts for rituals.(And I guess helps keep them from killing Bald Eagles).

Really enjoying all the photos everyone, ducks, wrens, eagles and every single one!
The wind has been blowing for days and didn't stop last night. That is a little unusual. I can usually count on some calm in the early morning hours. I took down the bird feeder because I was afraid someone was going to get knocked out cold by its swinging. I threw some seed on the ground and put the usual fruit in the tree - I'm feeling bad for the birds.
Here is a photo from last April that cracks me up everytime I see it. Bet everyone can ID it, lol! It is all I have for today.

Nanny, I love the Carolina Wren. They are stinkers to try to photograph.

Burn, do you ever see green grass where you live? LOL Great pictures.

DebinSC, yepper, the Tufted Titmouse certainly seem to like my back yard. They are one of my favorite little birds. Love the huge eyes!

Thanks! I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of our "summer time birds". The ones that are here all year are pretty, but it's time for some variety! I did see a pair of Wood Ducks today, so spring can't be far away!

A sign of spring moving north, almost all the Goldfinches are gone from our feeders. The Chipping Sparrows though, who are also winter residents here, are still hanging about. :)

One Wish, that is a very unique feeder you have for (is it) peanuts. Did you make that? It looks as though your little Nuthatch appreciates it. Water Can, that is a gorgeous shot of the Robin. I've enjoyed looking at all of the other photos as well.

Seward, AK(Zone 7b)

My birder friend Carol Griswold was out here yesterday with a visiting birder from Kentucky and took these pix......

Seems like everyone wants "bird in hand" pix these days.
