ways to prevent voles from eating lily bulbs- suggestions???

If grass and iris grow there, there is plenty of light for martagons and other lilies. I was going to say you would have a problem with willow roots sucking all the moisture out of the soil, but again, if grass and iris grow there, there won't be any problem.

my favorite flower is a lily. i do love all these beautiful pictures thanks. i lost all but 1 of my trumpets in the vole attack i had about 5-6 winters ago now. the good news is that there must have been a couple of bulbils or scales left behind and i have 4 trumpets growing there now. mother nature is grand. i also have a baby stargazer lily that came up 2 years ago and one other that is slipping my mind. those few did a world of good for my soul.

So, why not StaMat (fractured ledge used for making driveways)? It comes in many sizes ranging from almost sand-like to 3"-4". The 1/2" size should work just fine and be a LOT cheaper than the products mentioned earlier.

DonnaMack, thank you so much for recommending that voleblock. I read your report and ordered a bag instantly. Voles have been driving me crazy, eating my lilies away to nothing. I just won't bait the voles because we have a lot of wildlife here in NW PA. If this Voleblock works as well as it has for you, I will be very happy. To celebrate, I'm putting in an order for lilies for planting this spring!

Fantastic bbhow. It's been really great for me. I have lots of voles (they carve up the grass). But I never worry about my lilies disappearing during the winter. Enjoy your new lilies.

And thanks for letting me know.

Donna
