Daily Pics Vol 188

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Nice shot! Good to know they have feet, I usually only see ½ of them in the water! ☺

First Robin I've seen this year, looking for water on the rooftops. Mostly everything that's supposed to be liquid here is frozen solid.

So many colourful birds as I see in these threads are not visitors to my garden, though there are quite a few around the city, near 2-3 lakes that are in Mysore. Here is a house crow flying with a twig to build a nest. The kites are also building their nests now. I caught this one and I'm satisfied with the shot as it was flying so quickly. I had a setting in my Panasonic FZ8, called 'baby'. Don't you think it is a decent shot of a quick flier?

This is another crow.

Shots on the wing are difficult--congratulations

For those who feed peanuts--how to you keep squirrels from grabing them, that's what would happen here.

Mount Pleasant Mills, PA(Zone 5a)

I just took a brief break from "chores" and checked in at the forum. You folks have outdone yourselves! These pictures are all awesome! What great shots! Made my day. Now, back to work! Yuck!

Nanny, my Cardinals are ill-mannered too right now, as well as bad tempered. Not sure why. Perhaps Spring is coming.

I saw 4 red breasted nuthatches this morning - so exciting! And then one chased another, so my guess is there's two couples.

Here's a shot of one on a feeder

Here's another with a seed it its mouth.

The really interesting thing was that one of them went under the deck a few times and it looked like it was saving the seed in the ground. Here's the best shot I have of that. ...the things you see when you actually get outside to watch (as opposed to just inside where its warm!)

and look who else showed up - a redpoll (haven't looked it up but I assume a "common redpoll").

such posture!

Yes it is! A boy too!

Essex Junction, VT(Zone 4a)

The coolest thing I saw while on my outing was an imprint of a landed bird. It was in the shadows and wasn't clear, so I manipulated it so you can see the detail better. This barely does it justice, but I think you get the idea. Now I want to know what it was! There were more tracks coming from the left - not sure if it was the bird or whatever the bird got (more likely)

and finally, a white breasted nuthatch

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Hawks are extremely busy in peoples yard, this time of year, from what i can gather. Mine came again today, but didn't stick around, cause I was out on the deck, filling feeders.
There are some great pics on here.

It was a nice cold sunny day today for a change.
This Common Raven was across the street in the Pine tree. I liked how the sun made his feather shine.

Thanks, the Raven is bigger at 24" and much bulkier, where the crow is, 18", with a more slender bill.
here's one to compare,
American Crow, I took last year.

some of those suckers are huge.... made me think they were ravens.... no way they are after seeing those photos... thanks again for the education!

PERTH, Australia

Fabulous, fabulous shots everyone.

Jane, I've never heard of a Pyrrhuloxia before. Very impressive. I tried looking for it in my book, but it isn't one of the birds shown there.

Linthicum Heights, MD(Zone 7a)

Good morning All! Elphaba, I noticed where the Great American Backyard Bird Count folks have posted a few photos from Brazos Bend State Park. Were you the one who took those? No matter: the ones that you've shared with us are all very good. Happy birding today, everyone!

No wbbirdwoman, I don't have any photos posted on backyard bird count. I was going to go to Brazos Bend that weekend for the count, but it was dark and rainy almost the entire weekend. Next year for sure!

LOL Granny. Great photos everyone.

Here's a visitor in my neighbor's front yard yesterday, a Pileated Woodpecker.

This Cooper's Hawk landed in front of me about 30 minutes ago. I was taking a pic of my dog and didn't have the zoom extended much, but at least I had my camera in my hands!
