Spring cottage

Kannapolis, NC

I love that little cottage pictured at the top of the webt site now for your spring format. Can I get a complete picture? It would make a charming gardening shed or hideaway!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

I can't remember who took the photo. But it's a lovely children's cottage at the Dallas Arboretum I believe. Here is a full shot of the cottage. Perhaps someone will help with info on contacting the original photographer from DG

That's the one Joan - thanks !! :)

Thanks, all. I've saved the shot of the whole cottage in hopes of someday having a garden cottage or shed just like it. I love it!

(Zone 1)

That is a great photo of a quaint little cottage! I too would love to have one just like that! I love the size, shape and especially that roof!

Kannapolis, NC

Doesn't it just look like a fairy tale cottage? It definitely belongs in my fairy garden!

The thatched roof transforms the cottage from "nice" to "gorgeous". If I had a lot of time on my hands, I would absolutely love to build one just like it to use as a garden shed or even a workshop.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Build it as a playhouse for the kids. Then when the kids grow up you can use it as a garden shed or workshop.

Kannapolis, NC

Well, Dave, I can't imagine what you do with your time that you can't fit that into your schedule :-)!!! Joan has a great idea for the kiddies, then later. However, we don't have any kiddies anymore, at least not often enough that they need a playhouse dedicated to them, so it remains my dream garden shed!

It would make a nice home office too!

I would love it as a little retreat in the backyard, just for me ... windows open wide, a comfy chair or hammock, ceiling fan whirring softly, a table for a book and glass of iced tea, shelves for a few garden tools, gadgets ... and plants!

Kannapolis, NC

Oh, yeah, plantladylin, I hear that, too. My ideal garden shed (see photo above) would have all my garden tools, a work area, my gardening books, maybe even my computer so I could log onto DG there, and a chaise lounge and table for reading and enjoying a glass of sweet iced tea, wine or a margarita! Of course, it would have a fan and running water, too.

(Zone 1)

A garden of Spring Tulips outside the door (as in the current banner) would be lovely too! Tulips just don't grow well here in my area. Now if I could just talk my DH into retiring to the Blue Ridge or Smokey Mountains for the spring and summer months ... we'd have to be in Florida during the cold winters! ^_^

I'm confused, where is that image "pictured at the top of the web site now for your spring format"? I only see tulips.

(Zone 1)

Dave keeps us on our toes, doesn't he? I think the image changes periodically ... I bet the pretty little cottage will re-appear before long.

It'll appear tomorrow. I have two images for springtime, and the system rotates through them each day.

Even numbered days have the tulips while odd numbered days have the cottage.

Aha!

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Hey, that's a cool way of doing it! There were so many beautiful banners made that it would be a shame to not have the best ones rotated, kind of like how the random PF and Bird Files images are rotated.

Yes, that was my thought, too.

I do the same thing for autumn, I believe. We actually have 4 nice pictures for autumn... Winter we have two different ones. Just one for summer and, although they are all great, that one is my all time favorite one. It's the one with the hummingbird on the crocosmia.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

My favorite one too, by GardenGuyKin!

I also enjoy seeing the Cottage in Spring.
Dea's Tulips are Always a JOY to see this time of year... They give my eyes and Winter Blues a Jump start... Which I need this time of year! LOL

Thanks... I feel Privileged to have my little Hummer adorning Dave's Garden during the Summer months.

Ah ha, were your ears burning?! LOL

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

You can't believe how many requests we get at the helpdesk about the hummingbird banner. It is amazing.

Tiffin, OH(Zone 6a)

It's too bad we can't have a slideshow type banner of all the great past photos! I have my family pictures folder in a slideshow as my screensaver and I can't count the times I have laughed out loud as I glance at the screen from across the room and see a 5 second view of my 40 yr. old son on his 1st Communion day, our dog looking like a goofball ...or my younger brother at age 3 sitting on the pot!!! It is constant entertainment!
And there have been so many beautiful and inspiring photos here-- Do I remember one of a guy looking like Raggedy Ann with a "Love Lies Bleeding" hanging over his head?!?!

Alamogordo, NM(Zone 7b)

I love my slideshow screensavers too. This cottage reminds me of my favorite cottage photos on flickr

I think she sells her photos too if you click on the link on her profile page.

Always love seeing those cottages! Think I'll take a spring drive down there to try my hand at capturing the cottages, it's just a little over an hour away.

Alamogordo, NM(Zone 7b)

I would love to be able to see them first hand. Look forward to seeing your shots!

Cactus: Thanks for that link to the fairytale cottages! How I love them.

I knew you would, aren't they dreamy?

Oh boy are they ever wonderful! I'm trying to get one little section of my yard to look something like one of those. ~sigh
Thanks for posting the link Cactuspatch!

Kannapolis, NC

Dreamy doesn't begin to describe them. I can imagine how delightful it would be to live in one of them and have afternoon tea under one of the trees in the garden! One might even chase a white rabbit down its hole and get lost in Wonderland.
