A box full of joy

Clarkson, KY

Man-O-Maan, all the joy we've gotten outta this box o' chicks....

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

My light Brahma looked like the feathered legged ones way up top. Man, I cant keep up!!! wooohooo!!!! Looks like fun!! The penguine looking ones could be Jersey Giant or Maran or austrolorp.....ahhhhhh!!!!! Good luck with that. I would just wait and see. Prize in the cracker jacks!!!! weeeeeeeeeeeee!!

Social Circle, GA(Zone 8a)

Can you opt for just one of each?! LOL

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Jenks - I agree - I noticed that too, but all the other pictures of the Houdans had 5 toes, and they are supposed to have 5 toes, so either that picture is wrong or the chicks are hiding their 5th toe very effectively!

You get whatever assortment you get. They say it's based on what is hatching well. I got 25 per assortment, so it gave me a good chance of getting a nice mix, I thought.

Reynoldsville, PA(Zone 6a)

all the crested r definately polish i have raised them and crevs and have white sultans in the brooder now.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

My sister over in Dallas, Ga called and told us about y'all snow. I wish I could come up and see it.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Are you going to go outside and make a snow-chicken?!

I saw some pictures of it somebody had posted on their blog today and she had 3 inches. I have to admit, it's very pretty - the truly fluffy Christmas style of snow. I would have a party too if we only had it a couple of times a year!

(Zone 7b)

They are so cute. We have til the end of March to place our order. Mark said I could get whatever I wanted for chickens and even ducks. One question though, do you keep the ducks mixed in with the chickens? I've never grown ducks.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Gorgeous Great Dane! Must be wondering why the sky is falling....?

I keep the ducks with the chickens. They all seem to get along, but the ducks are messier and their poops are more watery. In spring, I hope they will go hang out in the pond instead.

(Zone 7b)

Trees coming down and may lose power light's are flickering The snow is too heavy for the trees.......

Now the snow isn't so pretty there go the lights again and my elm just lost some branches looks like we will lose the power soon!!
DH just told me my pens are collapsing my poor animals i have to go please pray i will be back!!

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Uh oh....use a heavy broom to push snow off the roofs and other areas where the weight is a problem. It's the weight of the snow that is the issue.

Social Circle, GA(Zone 8a)

OK, now I'm going out to try the broom on the barn.

Clarkson, KY

Ooof...

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

I'm thinking an avalanche got Harmony and Jenks...

Clarkson, KY

Unless they're fixin' supper. Looked like much more snow than their trees etc are accustomed to...

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

My sister lives southwest of Atlanta, Ga and she says they get a lot of snow in a short time and now are getting ice.

Ferndale, WA

Hey Mox: Your posts wore me out, but they are so dang cute. Excellent shape upon arrival, thats great. So happy for you. I think the two feathered legged buffs are going to be white cohcins. I hope you get at least one crevecoeurs, I would love to hear your opinion on them. I just love em. Well as they grow well be more sure of what breeds they are, Such fun though trying to identify them huh. I will be getting my order of chicks tomorrow and 6am. Hope they all live this time. It is a bit warmer now so maybe that will help. Crossing eyes and fingers. Haystack

Sue, RI(Zone 6a)

Congrats on your lovely babies! Sorry I'm not of any help w/ the id but it's fun to see all the great pics of them. Can't wait to see them all feathered out. It's going to be a beautiful sight.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

jersey giants will have yellow pads and Aus will have pink pads. Just looked it up in my storeys book.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

I'm at work, but I'll look at pads when I get home!

(Beth) L'ville, GA(Zone 7b)

Really nice to see all the healthy little chicks--just makes me want some even more!

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

Congrats, Claire! Okay, are you satisfied?

(I know the answer to that one...)

Who let the chicks out... chirp... chirpchirpchirp

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

I still have some special breeds coming from Sandhill Preservation. I think I got Mahogany Faverolles, and I seem to have forgotten what else...

(Zone 7b)

More Cute baby"s YES! and pics there must be pics! Lovin your babys and that buff with the feathered legs is special i just wonder what it is?

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

I just found out today that my Sandhill Preservation babies are going to be delayed until June 2, but that is OK, I can wait. Here is what I have coming from them in June:

6 Blue Andalusian
4 Mahogany Faverolle
5 Silver Laced Wyandotte
5 Silver Kraienkoppe
5 Light Grey Dorking

I am not sure about the buff with the feathered legs Harmony, but they sure are cute. One of the options on the list is Buff Cochin so I wonder if they might be that.

You should see how some of them already have their little feathers showing. The Silver Polish in particular!

Look at da widdle feather weathers on da widdle chickie wickie!

(Zone 7b)

I'm going to have to google the silver Kraienkoppe i have no idea what that is and the Mahogony Faverolle sounds pretty.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

The Kraienkoppe is pretty rare but sounded interesting to me. Supposed to be good broody hens too! Apparently they are also good foragers, and we need those here in the farmyard!

Lodi, United States

Sandhill only does straight runs....right? Sigh.

Clarkson, KY

Easy Cats! Send 'em this way...

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Yup, I'm afraid so. I'm hoping for at least a pair of each.

(Zone 7b)

I googled the chicken i didn't know and thats a very nice chicken

Social Circle, GA(Zone 8a)

I just got to work, tired of sitting at home with no power....

Mox,
You are going to have A LOT of chickens!!!!
